Starc to T Chanderpaul, FOUR, 147.5kph, first ball for the debutant and he gets squared up! Short of a good length delivery that nips away a bit off the deck. Catches the outside edge and goes in the gap between third slip and gully. Runs away to third man and Chanderpaul opens his account in international cricket with a boundary!

Starc to T Chanderpaul, 1 run, tad too straight from Starc, worked away behind square on the on-side and Chanderpaul will be happy to get to the bowler's end

47 from 73 balls- 6 fours and 1 big six

looks calm and composed as well

I saw a comment on CRICINFO,a poster said West Indies selectors erred by giving Campbell such a long run and not having tried Tage at an earlier age,he is almost 27 now.I cannot help but agree,T.Chanders should have been playing test cricket at least 2/3 years ago.I can say this much,a saying used so many times,"better late than never".Well played TC.

cool

Hazlewood to T Chanderpaul, no run, 134.1kph, ouch! Chanderpaul has been hit on the box and he's in pain. Seams in from a short of length, the left-hander shuffles across a bit to block and gets beaten on the inside edge

Cummins to T Chanderpaul, SIX, lovely, he's starting to look a lot better now - short and angling down leg, he swivels across, gets inside the line, uses the pace on the delivery and helps it over long leg for a maximum

Hazlewood to T Chanderpaul, FOUR, cracking shot, he's been severe against any width, wasn't too short and it wasn't too far outside off either - but Chanderpaul gets under the length and flashes the cut behind square on the off-side for a boundary

SPOT ON! They chose to give Campbell a debut (with a FC average of 29) against England, in 2019. He has shat up the place for 20 Test matches over the last 3 years and 9 months. Covid didn't help either, but Tage could have debuted in that match aged 22 and would have had a longer career.

Probably the right time for Tage, looks like he understands his game more now. Making runs against Australia will give him confidence and he should “bruk out”
West indies need these type of players paint,Tage Bonner etc to bat long. These guys will soak up pressure and allow Mayers, Blackwood, etc to build. Looking forward to tonight!

Agree, as we arestarved for FC cricket it's best to let them mature a bit. The gods got involved now as the time is right. However, not the first WI to look good on debut against Oz.

Brerzerk 2022-12-01 13:30:11

We can never lift up one without crapping on another. Kid is playing nicely but bringing up Campbell is crap! What was Tage's avg and experience when Campbell debuted? Who is to tell he wouldn't have made runs in Oz where pitches would favor his technique or lack of it most? He's banned for 4yrs let it be

Starc to T Chanderpaul, no run, 148.5kph, pitched up, Starc gets the ball to curl away and Tagenarine Chanderpaul brings his bat down slightly late to somehow squeeze it out. Off the inner edge and the ball hits his pad
0.5
Starc to T Chanderpaul, no run, 146.4kph, watchfully fences this length ball towards gully

First 3 balls in test cricket....fastest balls he has faced in his life

Agreed...he is now ready to compete at this level. His batting has matured.

Earlier this year Shiv took Tage home to Orlando Florida and he trained under Shiv...when he returned to Regional 4 day cricket....he made back to back tons....

In my opinion he is debuting at the right time.

I am sure the great BCL is going to give him lots up tips up there in OZland.

Curtis 2022-12-01 13:44:13

In reply to Brerzerk

Agreed, Campbell should not be lambasted due to a comment from some cricinfo observer or any other reason. Some real bad-mind thinking that.

I would not have picked Tage two years ago. To Tage's credit, he upped his game.

That said, don't goat-mouth the bredda. This is a long journey. Act like you've seen the movie before.

So it is a good time for Kraigg to debut, no one knows what exactly the future holds so no one could say no what if he had debuted 2 years ago.
We always with a lot of these what ifs.

He is playing his first test match. Very good so far but please temper the nonsense towards Campbell.

jahmekyah 2022-12-01 15:06:59

The same people who are delighted for Tage(happy for the young man) are the same people who were praying for Campbell not to succeed.

You may be right. But maybe his family jewels might have been exposed and damaged by now. Hopefully he would have used the 2/3 years wisely - for his family's sake. lol lol big grin big grin lol lol

A better time to debut would be against Bangladesh,Ireland,Afghanistan or Zimbabwe. It is never a good time against Australia in Australia.

Seriously though, Campbell had a longer run than he should have. He was at the wicket for a good time not a long time.

Seechy 2022-12-01 23:02:15

In reply to jacksparrow

Exactly! It's not nonsense, my Yardie breddas. It is fact. Campbell was given a run of 20 test matches to not succeed, and believe you me, if he wasn't done for doping, he would be opening in Australia and not Tage. Not Campbell's fault but the selectors. No one prayed for Campbell to fail; we just wish for fairer selections.

Hazlewood to T Chanderpaul, FOUR, edged and four, that brings up Chanderpaul's fifty on debut, just a lift of the bat from the youngster, on a good length and in that channel just outside off, drew Chanderpaul forward who played with soft hands, runs away wide of third slip for a boundary
big grin
