Shivnarine Chanderpaul epitomizes what can be achieved at international level with hard work, perseverence, no apetite for failure, hunger to succeed...all elements which must be recognized and imparted in a new crop of players.
Shiv will make the ideal West Indies coach.
You got to match job specifications/functions (requirements) with person specification.
Over to you CWI. If you don't go this route then allyuh decision makers can pack up and leave West Indies cricket alone.

Shiv Chand'paul for West Indies Head Coach.

I dont know how many times Dukes have to tell you guys no WI but Otis & Simmons qualifies for the job based on the requirements of CWI!!!
Would be nice to see him as batting coach at least and that way hell still be around to help!!!
In reply to WIfan26
Actually, the current CWI policy is quite the opposite. It is designed to make it difficult for foreign coaches.
It's a "West Indian First policy" as enunciated by Skeritt.
I allowed Dukes to get away with his disinformation here.

Huh you know whats funny it looks like theyve taken it off there website so maybe youre right but check out the archives!!!
As a side note...only two current players qualify for retaining their positions.
Shiv must quickly identify a new crop of players with the above qualities I have outlines. I hasten to add that selection by data will not cut it. We must start thinking with no box at all.
In reply to WIfan26
I don't need any archives for this. This matter was extensively debated by many posters here.

Exactly so I guess you just dont read and comprehend huh? Nevertheless it seems that youre right and the requirements have been thrown out the window so I fully agree with you that Shiv should be the next coach!!!
In reply to WIfan26
Bro...the Skerrit policy was always to give priority to West Indies coaches. A dearth of quality West Indian coaches made this impossible...now we have Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Shiv Chanderpaul for Head Coach.

when Shiv fails with the bare cupboard, what next?
In reply to Halliwell
Implicit in my unfliching support for Shiv as HC is the organic necessity to give him sufficient time to build a new team.
It also implies a new set of decision makers at CWI who have the capacity to put workable structures in place.
I have no problem in banishing personnel from the current structure...disbanding CWI even.

I agree with your choice and recommend same. but I cannot agree with your posturing of if not your recommendation then they might as well leave. it that kind of attitude that has left many talents and resources untapped.
In reply to shivnotout
The difference between Shive and many here is that he does not walk around with grudges, he simply lives his life based on what he can control and do his best at it. We here drinking poison trying to kill others. Shiv will do what is best for WI cricket in his estimation, not what is going to repay others perceived injustice. Something we can all learn from.

In view of the feckless nature of CWI, the bolded part above can be viewed as temporary or changeable, maybe time-sensitive might be an alternative descriptive.
In reply to soloview
I am often wrong here but when I feel strongly about a matter I do not hesitate to express it in the most forceful terms. Btw, my admonition on what should happen to CWI et al if Chanderpaul is not chosen, does not suggest "posturing."
Shiv as head coach and his dad as batting coach...
- set up a proper concrete tarmac with enough water to wet it, bunch of concrete balls and some guys with strong arms to fling dem to the batsmen.
- After the fling down session send the batsmen in the nets to bat at least 4+ hours against the bowling machine
- Shiv's dad will be there to give them a proper Guyanese cussing/motivation.
Guarantee you won't see guys running and going out to bat with pillows as chest guard anymore.
In reply to Dukes
Yea it looks like they did because the article with the coaching requirements was removed so Im sure theyre going to do whatever the hell they want now a la typical CWI!!!

I disagree- his experience is limited
In reply to Barry
Stick to your dependency on a box to set you thinking and stifle innovation.
In reply to Courtesy
West Indians innovations are not sustainable- weaknesses in policy learning
Shiv will tarnish his Part II legacy if he takes this job
Which country will hire Shiv with the results he will have for WI within 18 months?!
In reply to Halliwell
Congratulations on achieving the highest honours in the seerman discipline.
In reply to Courtesy
I knew youd say that.
In reply to Halliwell
...but wouldn't you say that your post which ilicited this response from me usually comes from the uneducated and uninitiated?
In reply to Courtesy
Not at all.
You are presenting the potential Chanderpaul appointment as something that will bear fruit.
I am saying it will bear as much fruit as leaving Simmonds in place, putting Baz, putting Walshie (Hadyn Jr), or just leaving the post vacant!
If thats uneducated then Ill wear the cap.
In reply to Halliwell
But have you considered that the appointment of Chanderpaul, as I have said pellucidly, will be concomitant with deeply rooted fundamental structural changes to West Indies cricket? In other words, back to basics.
Get in a foreign coach who is world class and understands how to get players to reach their true potential. Take a leaf out of the book of the top teams and see what makes them so successful. Time for some new ideas and some quality tactics. It is time to start from scratch. Work hard or get lost.
