The Barbados Cricket Board will host a tri-series tournament to decide their West Indies Championship squad in January.
Shai Hope, Shane Dowrich and Nicholas Kirton will captain the different sides which are named after Sir Charles Griffith, Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Wes Hall.
The first match is from January 5-7, second is from January 10-12 and the third match is from 15-17. After those three, the Pride squad will play the best remaining players from the series in a four-day practice match from January 21-24.

The WI Squad should play against all Regional teams before selection of WI test team. We need to broaden the opportunity for other regional players, for our test players have not done enough to warrant complacency or special treatment over other players around the region, not after our recent humiliating 70 runs team effort and inability to bowl, in that loss to Australia.

Other than injury, given his absence, that would suggest that Chase is going to Zimbabwe.

Thats part of our problem, we are in no position to recommend any player until we have team selection trials, and I think the best trial is to have the current WI team play against each regional team, this will confirm if they are really our best option, while giving other players around the region who might have now matured, an opportunity to fight for WI selection. We cannot expect to follow the same failed selection policy and expect a different result, and I am not talking about playing against Zimbabwe but I am looking ahead at playing against higher ranked teams.

Chase anyway should go to Zimbabwe. He did get a few runs in australia and wasnt as bad as most of the others, Dave Chanders and KB and maybe a couple more

I like the robust feel of your commentary. I myself felt for a while that this or a similar activity really should be the template in the short to medium term for those who would seek both red and white ball WIndies selection.
Given the limited finances, WI has available for staging an extended first-class season what with travel costs so high, identify the test fifteen and two other fifteens from the other players across the 6 teams that play in the WI. Schedule matches in the Northern Caribbean one year and the Southern Caribbean the next and alternate for 4 years, as a start.
Have those 3 - 15's play return fixtures for the requisite number of weekends it will take for them to complete the allocated matches. Top team is declared the winner and therefore has the right to contribute 9 of the 15 players WI considers for test duties until the next championship. Assign a selector to each team as part of the management set up (Lead selector begins with the current test 15).
Can this or something similar find traction.

Same old policy so expect same old result. Already looks like a Barbados thing instead of a West Indies development plan

Each regional board try to develop it players.
Now read the link below..
The BCA COS three views to improve West Indies Cricket.
1. The development of a core group of genuine Fastbowler who can consistently bowl at 85 to 90 miles per hour
2. A longer regional first class season as ten games no longer develop players for International cricket
3. The development of an academy and A-team program.

There was always a plan, that why the Sir Everton Weekes centre for excellence academy at the mecca was establish.
I don't think individuals are putting the work in, having the same flaws year after year.

I am assuming from your post, CWI had plenty games in the region since the Aussie tour.
Dude there is not even a training camp for the team that we are hearing about.

I share your vexation. I feel we wasting time with Brooks, Roach has seen better days but he has no competition but as Openning correctly said there hsas been virtually no preparation.

Some fans don't seem to understand preparation, it seem to always homeboy selection.
Most countries local competition is played yearly, when teams are visiting, it not like the West Indies where tours are schedule to accommodate the visitors.

So, we must continue with the same failures until CWI schedule some matches? Then when those matches are finished, and CWI select a squad we must stick with that squad until another season?
You're always on this MB calling for Hosein in the test squad based on his limited overs performance... Here are a few names that performed in the last FC season and in the recent super50... They don't deserve a chance?
1. Hope
2. King
3. Motie
Could even throw in Pooran.

What I like about Akeal, he can bowl during any stage of the Whiteball format, he is not a Part-timer, or captain hides him,
His experience playing against the world best, shows me he can play and should be selected for test cricket.
How much experience does Motie has, in any format?
Hope was dropped for non performance after scoring two centuries in a test, has he returned to the red ball format with any scores you want to talk about?
Brandon King's selection will be base on potential just like any batsman in the region.
Show me a batsman with a FC average close to 45-50, then lets talk about team selection.
I am not a Jump and Wave fan, or a fan who support run du jour or one tournament.
