Now that his test average is below 50, no test 100 in over 3 years , struggles against spin well known ,not to mention the weakness against the moving ball even at his best, is Virat overrated in tests ? Has he hidden behind his phenomenal yet mostly meaningless bilateral ODI numbers?

Is Virat Kohli overrated in tests?
No. Virat is in the same class as ABD.
In reply to Khaga
One would give Virat and Hety the same diagnosis

Ice fishing?

He smells something big tonight
In reply to Khaga
That is a TRICK QUESTION
Clearly it depends on how highly you rate him.
If you rate him above Bradman,he is overrated
Likewise if you rate him above Sobers,he is overrated
However if you say he is a GREAT BATSMAN,he is not overrated.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
he better get that test avg back to 50
Is the king still un-droppable?
In reply to doosra
At the very least..
In reply to Khaga
No he is not overrated, he was and remains an excellent batter in this era as is Smith and Root and Williamson- they are all excellent batters. None of them can be considered great however.

you are not good at trolling

I was wandering the same thing coming from (K ) Chaga.
In reply to tc1
Why are you wandering?
In reply to Khaga
Over rated you damn right !!! Only West Indian batsmen belong in the rated category !! KHOLI cant touch the bling bling guys !!
In reply to Khaga
Could be a ruse

After 18 test matches, Sobers test average was 55.96 and never went below 50 after that.As a matter of fact, after 20 test matches his test average NEVER went below 55.
In reply to Dukes
I wouldnt even engage in a conversation about Mr. Sobers without bringing his batting, bowling and fielding simultaneously into the discussion.
It happens to weed out a lot of nonsense talk right upfront.
I am questioning Virat's place alongside Sachin, Rahul and Sunil ..they all scored 10K+ and averaged 50+. I seriously doubt if their averages dipped below 50 once they attained it.
Post 1990, 10K has to be the cutoff for greatness along with 50+ average..
In reply to Khaga
Are you asking if Virat is an Indian great?
In reply to Raskil
Bannuhs .. big Butch once told me .. with Sobie it was like playing with 15 guys ....
These guys were natural ... sport up comes first and cricket after !!!
Me and a few guys turned up at Bourda at 6ish in the morning to do some training and the King was already there going through his routine .. amazing .. WI was there to play a test .
In reply to CITYBOY
I heard he would have a conversation with someone looking them in the eyes while tossing a ball up in the air and catching it
instinctively

Viv Richards finished his Test career with an average of just about 50, and having watched the Master Blaster bat, I call him a great batsman.
Let's see where Kohli finishes up...he's a class batsman, and can still finish with an average of 50.
In reply to Khaga
He's not at the same level of Tendy Gava or Wall in test...just look at the bowling attacks those dominated
In reply to mikesiva
An average of 50 in Viv's era equates to about 65 today- different era- in fact the golden era of Test cricket- the bowlers quality were about 10 notches above today's jokers, no helmet, no bat technology, etc.
Kohli would not have make the India team back then, I know India has been historically and relatively weak in the 60's to the 80's, but no where will he come ahead of Vensarkar, Vishwanat, Azaruddhin etc.
There are people here who call Gayle a great in tests. If Gayle is great, then Kohli is Brahman, sobers, Lara and Sachin rolled into one
In reply to brians_da_best
is he, Khaga?

Not over-rated but over-stayed. When players don't retire at the correct time this is what happens. Once a great batsman will look like a mediocre lower order batsman. If he plays first class cricket chances he won't score any there as well.IT is a phase that everyone goes through.
This thread is funny. Men suggesting Kohli should retire at 34 while in the West Indies we can't wait to witness the second coming of the great Darren Bravo at age 34
As they say ... if a laff
In reply to doosra
No.. he is Rajput..
In reply to Khaga
he's letting the warriors down
time to get that average back up to Brah standards
India will probably have to buy a couple test matches from WI in an attempt to get Kohli a next test century. That's a helluva drought going on 3 yrs.
This morning the Indian commentators spent a good 30 minutes boosting up Kohli, how is great, hardest worker, have the best diet and best sleep/rest recovery process and he looked set for a not out and he is levitating off his feet, and his legacy will be unparalleled and as they done he get stumped. Back to the pavilion-Lots of time to working on his sleeping process. I thought if you guys had only kept your damn mouth shut. Even the damn TV was tiad a unnooh.
In reply to carl0002
One thing's gor certain, his best before date as well and truly past
Bravo's I suspect is expired
No - di man is a world class batsman. I dont have to like him as a person, but facts are facts. Di man can bat.
Sure he loves his home tracks
Home 59.44
Away. 41.48
Kohli will continue to dominate ODIs but in tests I think his best days are behind him. Hes got a very good record in that format, nonetheless, built as Anderson and many others have exposed various chunks in his technique. Recently hes also been suspect against good spin bowling and at his age I doubt hell be able to get back to where he once was.
That said, he has an excellent record in all formats, especially ODis where hes probably statistically at least, the greatest of all time
