HEADLINE: Holder: Every team apart from big three barely playing any Tests

CaribbeanCricket.com 2023-03-03 14:01:53

Jason Holder became the second West Indies player after Sir Garry Sobers to take 150 Test wickets and score 2500 runs but does not think he will be able to break Sobers' record because of the dearth of Test cricket facing teams like West Indies.

"The way world cricket is going now, apart from the big three, every team is barely playing any Test cricket," Holder said after the second day's play between South Africa and West Indies in Centurion. "We average six to eight Test matches over the last three years. This year we've got six, next year around six. You have to be in the XI for every single game to get anywhere close to 100 Tests."

Holder is playing his 61st Test and with West Indies only due to play India (two Tests at home in July) this year, and 24 more Tests in the current FTP, even if he plays in all of them, he will not catch up with Sobers' 93. Nor is Kraigg Brathwaite, who debuted in May 2011 and has 83 Tests, likely to catch up with Joe Root, who started playing Tests in December 2012 and already has 129 caps to his name.

It's true. We probably won't see a 100-caps player for the WI after Kraigg. Kemar is at 75 and I don't see it happening.

The way the calendar and the $$ are going, Test opportunities for most nations are going to be limited.

I think it's another stepping stone towards a Test League.

Teams touring South Africa should pass through Zimbabwe, likewise Ireland before a tour of England. If finances can be boosted, have a triangular ODI or T/20 series along with it.

that is why the west indies should have concentrated on building a side around Gayle and co 13 years ago....instead they uimdermined the team and played 2nd string sides for 12 years. you can't do that and expect people to want to play against you

Years ago when Pakistan was on the outs I posited that WI should have played them often in the UAE and WI

i know you see no problem with secoond string team teams and players who are solely selected as captains.....because a host of mediocre bajans have been the have gotten selected for WI squads because of it, never mind the team can barely score over 200 and we've gone from losing to utter hopelessness, but at least the mighty trident's flag flies high

Dude, do you know how I was humiliated during the 90's?
For about five years at our Christmas parties, I will be call on stage and be presented with everything Australia cricket.
Our GM is from Australia, her dad hearing I was from Barbados and love cricket, would had his presents for me titling real champions
I passed them on to my brother in law, who lives in Barbados, I kept a tie.
I cannot remember any cajan as captain at that time, but I do know, my South African buddy, who was the GM's wife also would receive gifts, highlighting the real champions.

It's kind of funny, ECB have never encouraged it, heck they hardly play their neighbours as it is. Ireland and scotland rarely get to play England despite proximity.

The same Chris Gayle who hasnt played a test since 2013, or do you mean Sarwarn who hadnt played on since 2010 and could get along with no board he was with, or maybe you mean Bravo who last played a test in 2011. Oh I get it you meant Sunil Narine who has pulled out of every Test or World cup team he was selected for because he 'wasn't ready' only to turn up the next day in a 20 /20 tournamant. Or maybe, just maybe, you mean they should have built a team around the Jamaican Andre Russell who is 'unfit' until an ICC world Cup is around the corner and he wants to be on show.

Those players fooled fans like you, they said one thing and did another, just talked, other thatn Chris Gayle they had zero intention to play for the West Indies.

Yes. That same one. He meant at the time, hence be in a position to plan for their successors.

The same chris gayle that led us to the widsden trophy for the first time in 11 years, the same chris gayle that scored two hundreds down under in a series we would have surely drawn at least if not for crucial umpiring errors by an incompetent NZ umpire, the same Gayle who led us to a drawn series in NZ, who led us to our first test win in South Africa...........

When you concentrate on the consequence of a problem and not the real problem. No wonder we are where we are today. We do not solve problems.

We suck...and we need to formulate and implement realistic plans to get us out of this dire situation. 30 years of this shit and what is most depressing, this pending CWI elections, we have the most uninspiring group of men vying for president.

The number of bathroom breaks he had during the MOU court matter does not suggest this.

clearly it have none for you....500 years of british domination and close to 57 years of listening to only your own opinion seems to have entrenched the insular values you seem to hold dear, despite evidence beyond contestation saying otherwise
