A bunch of novices

Sadly the stats support your thesis
Absolutely no comment from me.
Dere is a scientific concept dat water seeks its own level. Dat level is de FC average. One cannot expect dat a person wid a FC average in de twenties to become a world beater at de Test level.
In reply to Maispwi
But one expects improvements after playing 54 tests...NNit?
These things happen when novice, nationalistic selectors select their nationals first.
And give us a squad with 2 world class batsmen, 4 world class bowlers and the rest.
And poor captaincy and match day selection
To reduce from 6 world class players to 5 for the final test and poor field placement decisions at a world level without offense field pressure. Leaking runs.
Windies cricket is therefore in serious trouble of our own egos and making. Our egos also prevents us from making hard decisions.
In reply to Maispwi
Simple - 20 sinting and 30sinting will never make the cut at this level. #4 will beat #8 almost all of the time

No need to comment any further.

Please identify all the red ball batsmen in the region with an average above 40 or 50 at any level. Have we ever had a period in our history with these abysmal stats?
Thanks
In reply to lbnobody who averages below forty is a world class batsman and the west indies don't have a world class bowler either

Missed every ball, the Australian tour was bad, this one is pathetic.
Last me focus on the BCA, that were my roots lie, Conde it time for you to go and take your board with you.
You continue to send unprepared players to embarrass every Barbadian at home and abroad.
Please go.
In reply to openning
The first test wasn't bad given the gap between the two teams
In reply to velo
That simple

Conde thinks he's the best solution
Better to win the occasional match than none at all. At least we beat Zimbabwe as we were expected to.
In reply to Chrissy
My choice would be Conde if the contest was between him, Heaven and Shallow
In reply to sudden
Up and on, maybe the only reason
In reply to openning
Primarily yes becos I know him and yes he is strident but a good man
In reply to Casper
I DISAGREE with your characterization.
NOVICE-A person new to or inexperienced in a field or situation.
ALL our batsmen are on the wrong side of 30 apart from Tage.
Blackwood has played 54 tests and Chase 49
Just out of curiosity ah decided to look at the FC averages - Test averages of players who have occupied our top six in recent tests.
Brathwaite 110 43.34
Chanderpaul 51 35.55
Blackwood 79 34.42
Mayers 33 28.31
Reifer 84 27.64
Bonner 72 26.94
Chase 52 26.42
Not pretty reading

What is the right side of 30?
In reply to Maispwi
Therein lies the rub
In reply to Dukes
Hety is also on the wrong side of 30

In reply to FanAttick
Dukes no longer advocates for Hety
Until a proper domestic competition is put in place the international effort will more often than not come up short.
They have to start with learning to prepare wickets that offer something to both bowlers ,and batters.

But he is part of the problem.
There is too much history coming from that Island for any fan to settle for the players Barbados continue to send to the world stage.
It is time we get a better crop from some of the Islands, because Conde and his team, is not fertilizing the soil.
I grew up on plantation land, every so often, the field in the back of us, had corn, potatoes, yams instead of Sugar canes.

No patience, no skill.
No patience, no skill...... totally disagree.....we have talented players.... forget about test cricket...take T-20.... players from Caribbean performing admirably all around the world.... winning accolades..just look at performance in last two world cup....2021 World Cup was bad...2022 World Cup was worse....it clearly shows us, administration and team management failed miserably to manage and harness the talent and plan properly for the tournament...
They are just no longer equipped for big time.
The second one...The players have not been equipped properly by administrator and management..the players playing T-20 ....with all those exposure around the world with different leagues..... with world class facilities and top coaches..the same players return to wear maroon ..fail to qualify for main round...
A good Head Coach... appointed with transparency...A selection produre with strict equal rules for all.... would surely, give us much better results than present...be it red ball cricket or white ball cricket

Hettie's momager has decided that playing for the West Indies is a fool's errand because of the personalities, back biting and favoritism involved and has determined that playing for 4 months a year in lickit cricket with teams that appreciate his talent is a better way to go.I disagree vehemently with that characterization but it seems that under current CWI management that scenario is unlikely to change.
With that in mind endlessly referring to him seems pointless in the context of WI cricket.
What I can tell you definitively is that regardless of what the question is, ROSTON CHASE is NOT THE ANSWER. Neither is RAYMON REIFER
In reply to Dukes
Who is?
In reply to sudden
My thoughts on what ails WI cricket is a small part of what ails WI society and for me to do justice to my thoughts on this matter would involve stuff that is inappropriate for a cricket message board, particularly "The RUMSHOP".
Suffice it to say we are spinning our wheels because as CLR James said....................

But what qualifies as a proper domestic competition? Moreso when at the drop of a T20 call up, half of the possible middle order contenders will disappear? While we definitely need a shake up of the test team middle order batting (I say that because there do not appear to be any opening batsmen in the WI) the difficulty is that as soon as anyone comes in and scores runs, it is likely that they will be snappeed up by some middling T20 league and that will be it. Sorry, but at this point I am very pessimistic about WI cricket. SA is nothing better than a middle of the table side. We should have competed with them but in each case, they found one batsman who could make the difference. Same as in their last tour of WI. Until we can find such a batsman, we will not get off the bottom of the test table. SA is a side that we should play as regularly as possible as I think that our skillsets are comparable (not equal just comparable)
In reply to PalsofMine
We have to figure out how to compete in the new environment or get out of the business. We need to define an annual cricket season where most of our top players play and even try to contract a few overseas players to expose our guys to better quality players.
In reply to Dukes
My question was more along the lines of, if Chase and Reifer arent the answers and we can so stipulate, who are the answers?
In reply to Dukes
Last time Hety played Regional 4 Day cricket
Maybe his Momager saw the light
In reply to FanAttick
Those are 2022 stats, true?
Hettie has been moving away from red ball cricket since 2019. Had the Missus had her way he'd be done since then.
As it is her pov seems to have gained ascendancy!

I've been screaming dat fi years - it's like asking di non-scholarship winners of the Common Entrance class to sit CXC
In reply to Dukes
That was my entire thesis complete with data
In reply to Chrissy
We can't really judge players from performances in our domestic crick.More need to be done to improve the quality of play.
