the fact that we do not have a solid or talented middle order. The management and CWI will have to find some way to get shimron, pooran and brandon king to play FC cricket and test cricket. Darren bravo in the side is also a must.

WI has one big problem
In reply to Jumpstart
who goes to make way for them if they decide to play? I agree that on paper they appear to be the most talented of our middle order batsmen
In reply to PalsofMine
reifer is definitely out, so is chase and I'd put blackwood and mayers on notice. they have big technical chinks that require immediate attention. in fact mayers might only stay on for his bowling
In reply to PalsofMine
Is that a trick question, for the answer is obvious?
In reply to Jumpstart
Reifer and Chase need to be replaced with two batsmen, not allrounders.
There is absolutely no reason to believe that Poorman, Hety or Bing would have been more successful on this tour of SA than present players. None whatsoever
In reply to sudden
i agree that there is no objective evidence but I think that we can all see talent when on display. The sad fact is that if this current batting line up is the best in the WI then we coucou cooked AND crapaud smoke we pipe.
In reply to PalsofMine
we all know the problems. We bury our heads in the sand swapping out Shoite fuh shit and hoping for the best.
Until someone comes up with a plan we will have to endure these devastating losses punctuated with the odd victory.
We could look for some professional WI linked players in Eng or Oz or anywhere to play for us until we solve our domestic competition issues
In reply to Jumpstart
Lets be honest Myers is not going to average more than 30-32 with the bat, so the Longterm plan should have him batting about 7, his bowling will go places with proper guidance. He is definitely the type of player who can singlehandedly win you a game.
In reply to camos
I said it in another thread, we need to play proper batters and bowlers ..
bits and pieces cricketers dont work
In reply to allan
I dont disagree
Can you kindly name the proper batsmen and bowlers?
In reply to sudden
Non Bajans

Non Bajans
.
In reply to Barry
Fair enough
Just name them
In reply to sudden
Therefore in the meantime keep picking 6 Bajans. We have 3 Bajan selectors, what could go wrong?

King is probably the most likely, at least he plays some fc cricket.
I don't know what is going on in Hetmyer, whether it's family issues or someone in his ear, from the outside it does come across as an attitude problem. Missing flights, not appearing for club matches if/when available etc.
If Pooran is really keen on playing tests then I'm sure he, his T/20 franchise and regional boards could arrange for him to miss a couple of weeks of a tournament to play a couple of fc games to see where exactly he's at in red ball cricket.
In reply to Jumpstart
In unison with you on Hety & Bravo....
Pooran & King..not my pick...
Pooran,red ball credentials unknown
King, red ball game... questionable
Hope...needs massive improvement
Imlach
Goolie
Athanaze
Kacy
Wickham
Should be groomed....
Dowrich
Bonner should be kept in loop...both has trouble with short ball...but if they can overcome by playing regional....they have proven to be match winners in the past...
In reply to Onionman0
pooran has one critical feature that makes him suitable to red ball cricket......he's one of the few WI bats amen who isn't afraid of the short ball.
King has class, just needs to play more fc games
hope on the other hand also has class but is as poor a player of short pitched bowling as ganguly. its not technical so it can be fixed
In reply to Jumpstart
With Pooran as well you've got an attack minded batsman to come in after the steady approach by the openers and the recent no. 3s.
Are you people know Pooran has only played 5 FC matches, has not scored a ton, has an average of 31.9. what is interesting to me is, being stumped twice.
Can he concentrate for 3-4 hours?
He is selected for a format that his memory is use to, that's where is belong.
In reply to Onionman0
I like your thought process, Dowrich is a nonstarter for me. As I mentioned before King is talented, his issue relates to his head falling away on some of his offside strokes. This has to be addressed first.
In reply to openning
You really taking these punters seriously
This is the typical (TNPITBP) reaction-the next player is the best player
.until he actually plays
In reply to Jumpstart
Pooran has already walk past red ball cricket.....he went to New Zealand with the team... played F.C. .....then entire thing fizz out....he hasn't played regional red ball.....it is safe to say, he is beyond red ball cricket....
King is yet to prove himself in white ball cricket...red ball massive jump...

What I want the board to do...pick 4-5 very young players....give them contract for 4 years under Emerging Players Category..they can be included in red or white ball team... something akin to County Cricket or football league contract...which will allow West Indies Board to utilise the players, upon whom they invest...these players can not be taken away by T-20 league......
In reply to Onionman0
he walked passed red ball cricket when he was placed in the worst franchise in the now defunct PCL, which was the leeward islands franchise. And there was pressure on him to chose playing for that losing franchise, over a lucrative T20 league contract. You do not deal with players who have other options by using coercion. That is part of the problem. We are left with players who for the most part do not and will not have better options apart from playing with the WI, captain includes. Pooran is infinitely better technically(and talent wise) than any player on the team right now.
In reply to sudden
You have hit it out of the park kind Sir. The backup Quarterback is always everyone's favorite until he becomes the starter. My older Bro likes to say, six of one half a dozen of the other. It used to be Ambris, now it's King until he plays and is found wanting.
In reply to Jumpstart
Pooran was banned for refusal to play for Leeward 2016.... thereafter, ban was revoked..... he played for West Indies in T-20....debut in ODI 2019...went to New Zealand in 2020-21....played Tour game against New Zealand A.... thereafter, made captain of ODI.... further, each time during these period....,each selectors talked to him for red ball cricket....but nothing happened...
In reply to Onionman0
you're proving what i'm saying genius. Pooran was picked for the leewards in november of 2016........he was also picked for the mumbai indians around the same sime, for the 2017 season of the ipl.....who do you think he'd pick...a poorly paid gig with a losing franchise or the IPL....and they banned him. As i said, you cannot use coercion for people who have options. its not a hotel resort
My opinion only; players such as Lewis, King, Pooran, Hetmeyer and Rutherford have no vested interest in red ball cricket. They say the right things to appease their supporters with respect to their loyalty. They may also think they have been hard done by by CWI. Their decision to maximize their potential income in franchise cricket are personal decisions that should be respected. Our cricket has to move past what could have been to grooming the young players who are willing to become invested in the red ball game. Our current middle order batting is a train wreck. OnionmanO has an admirable approach to allow for success.

I hope you know hat many here see the current openers as the second coming of Greenidge ,and Haynes .

Man u jumping from place to place but dats to be expected given ur name.
First it was de Windwards and an unnamed T20 League, den it was de Leewards and de IPL. Ah sure u will get the correct details when u tek ur next jump. P.S. am sure you know dat de IPL doh play in November
In reply to Maispwi
The draft is before the IPL genius. Besides, its not difficult to mix them up. Both the leewards and the windwards are rubbish sides that have contributed virtually nothing in the last 25 years
