How about an A-team Regional Tournament?

Slipfeeler 2023-03-17 02:32:46

With the poor state of West Indies cricket, we have to start thinking outside the box. A Regional A-team tournament would see A-teams from the various regions competing against each other and players fighting for selection on West Indies A-team, which I recommend should be touring Australia, India, England and New Zealand. Giving our young players international exposure and experience against quality teams. That’s the only way for WI to fight its way back to playing competitive cricket, that is, by exposing our youngster to competitive and quality opponents while they are developing and training before actual selection to our WI test team.

Pity the Academy side wasn't in the regular tournament.

The Headley-Weekes series could have been a best of 3 between the competition winners and West Indies 'A' or Academy v West Indies 'A' with the winners playing the FC tournament winners in a Challenge match over 5 days.

I made a similar suggestion recently. At the very least at the Headley-Weekes level, an overseas A team should participate against what should be the best of our region. The Academy/best of national unpicked players as recommended by each territorial coach should definitely be part of the FC league bringing it up to 7 or 8 teams. As for costs, I tend to agree with the recent practice of grouping matches in one Territory (although this should be rotated so that every island will eventually get some matches) as this should reduce the expenses of travelling around the region and also in any event, fans do not attend these matches so there is no need to cater for them.

Well CWI has a department that works on sponsorship and promotors, lets get the businesses and corporations around the region involved in this project. If CWI cannot handle it, then transfer it to a private entity.
