Technical flaws..in test......Radford coaching Holder...Mason
Former West Indies batting coach Toby Radford says the problem with the West Indies batters is that they have technical deficiencies that they need to identify and work on correcting.
Radford, who has been working with Jason Holder on his batting, said that players should take ownership of their game if they want to improve.
Speaking on the Mason and Guest cricket radio programme in Barbados, Monday, Radford said he was delighted that Holder was able to get the success he wanted on the South African tour and noted that he will continue to work with the West Indies all-rounder going forward.
Jase contacted me three weeks ago and he’d been concerned that he hadn’t been scoring enough runs. He didn’t feel he was producing what he should be producing and he said I want to work with you again,” Radford revealed.
“When I was there (in West Indies cricket), Jason and I go back to 2010 with the High-Performance Centre with Sagicor in Barbados and then in the first team over a number of years when I was batting coach,” he continued.
“It was great to hear from him and I said the best thing for him to do was to send me some footage of the last year and some net footage and I went through it and then we had several calls and we chatted about a couple of technical things, his balance and position at the crease,” Radford explained.
He was a bit too far outside off-stump. I said if you can bring your head and hands inside the line of off-stump and keep your weight slightly forward, I think it will be far easier to get up and down the wicket. He then went and had some net sessions and he came back and told me he felt like a different player.
Radford said the plan is to continue working with Holder.
“If he is passing through the UK, he is going to stop off for four or five days of work or he is going to try to fly me out to different competitions around the world so I can work with him. And to be honest I think that is where the game is going, with people getting specialist coaches that know their game and who they can work with,” Radford said.
Speaking about the rest of the West Indies team, Radford said: “These guys aren’t scared. They are professional cricketers. What they have with some of them is technical deficiencies. Players have a to analyse their video, see where their strengths and weaknesses (are). They also have to look at who they are playing against, understanding their own game and what they need to work on and go into the nets and work on those areas.”
He added: “It is a simple game. It is not rocket science. It is not courage. It is technical ability for getting behind the ball. It is doable if the players and the coaches want to do it. I’ve just proved it. I’ve done it with Jason over the telephone from Johannesburg to Cardiff in three weeks and he’s got his highest score in the last two years.”
CWI should employ the man, work with regional squads and put on a batting clinic every 3 months to see what adjustments the batsmen have made who have been working with him.

There are reasons why Tiger continue to make the cut, playing only a few tournaments a year, every day he practice for hours, even having short games competitions with his son.
VJ Singh is another one that put the work in.
Thats work was put in by Gordon Greenidge when he was home, he got guts he trusted to eye him, I alway remember how excited he was when asked.
Is Bonner working on his game, and sending videos back to Toby?

Not every professional player can hire personal coach due to financial crunch....Holder has IPL contract+ few other T-20 leagues...he is solvent, can afford Radford, fly him to place ,if required....
Bonner doesn't have and cash rich league contract...not even CPL.... that's the reason West Indies team requires a batting coach with international credentials....

Bonner and Jason were students of Toby, that's why they called on him.
Bonner actually said, he worked with Toby and he is the only coach that know his game, that's why all Toby need is videos of his former students.
Athanaze spend his own money and spend time at Toby's academy last year, players know when something is not going right, it is up to them to seek help.
Gordon Greenidge that not seek him from a professional coach, A number of fans in Barbados he trusted will watch him at practice, and will tell him what he was doing.
He had a select group of fans, that he trusted.

guys would have to believe there is a problem. many times when darren bravo felt he had an issue, he contacted Lara. Shai said he got some assistance from Sir Gary a last year. Plenty of the legends want to help but its if the tadpoles want help

and toby aint help bonner at least reach up to very bad against pace......cuz he still stuck at atrocious

He love to chat after a player has a modicum of success and bawl bout how player reached out to him etc
He love chatting bout it was his coaching that led to Hope
: back to back tons in the same test match in a England and Brathwaite ton in the same match.
He more silent dan dem lambs in Hopkins movie when it’s pointed out to him that after that same test match, both of them and the rest of the batting failed miserably.
When Bonner publicly stated that before he scored a ton in the Caribbean, he called Radford for advice and Radford gave him tips that helped him score his ton, Radford was quick to go on Mason and Guedt and tout the phone r call.
Since then…..not a peep from batting saviour Radford. When Bonner get drop…..wha he had to say? Crickets…….

It make sense to ask a legend who should know how to address batting Or bowling problems.

This is 2023 not 1960, no legend should answer a question from any player, without seeing the batsman batting.
GG used to have a number of people checking him at practice to see what he was doing wrong, Oney, COL Deane were two of the guys Gordon trusted.
Each problem is unique to a player, that's the reason for using videos.

Advertisement of success in professional field can't be call " con"..... various players on their own appreciated Toby's contribution to rectify certain technical flaws...
Bonner most probably not have the financial clout to persuade personal coaching...
