PORT OF SPAIN – The telecommunications company, Digicel, Monday announced that it has transitioned its Trinidad Consumer Contact Centre to a consolidated regional centre of excellence in Jamaica, resulting in more than 100 workers being retrenched.
“As a company, we are forever grateful for the contributions of our Contact Centre agents and recognise their commitment to providing excellent service as our customers’ first point of contact,” said Digicel’s chief executive officer, Abraham Smith, confirming the move that has resulted in 126 workers being retrenched.
Smith said that it is no secret that the Call Centre has been the “heartbeat of our customer operations for 17 years, with many people throughout the business starting their journey there”.

Maybe I left a Trinidad too long now and things changed
But the idea of them Trinis calling for support and getting a Jamaican in the other end will be entertaining. One side of the phone like to whine and complain and the other side ent tolerating no foolishness as they see it

not surprising, Digicel is facing serious financial challenges and they have a much longer relationship with JA than trinidad

The call centre in Bermuda already routes to Jamaica and it's not always the easiest experience.

I think they defaulted on bonds a Lobito 2 years ago so yes they are struggling

they expanded too quickly. They saw a need in emerging mobile network markets and went in. Firstly they got competition with other local mobile network. They and i believe a company called Lacqtel(which had a had protracted legal battles to operate in TT. Then they expanded into the south pacific in places like fiji, vanuatu,....poor countries where it is possible the cost of setting up an operation(cell towers, infrastructure etc) could well exceed any possible profits.

aint nothing new there, FLOW - the major digital provider has its call centre in Jamaica.
Trinis no good in any service-oriented job. Tobagonians excluded.
