Fabulous Leon and the team - great farewell
In reply to FanAttick
Congrats indeed..Well deserved captain Johnson; retire but continue to serve
Guyana's cricket in other capacities.
Six in eight years - big up Leon - well done bowlers
In reply to hubert
Somebody must have taken the LI players for drinks last evening.
big up Leon
big up Eagles
6 and out
thank you
In reply to hubert
In view of the fact that Leon Johnson and the President of Guyana are very close friends,I expect him to play an important role in Guyana cricket at least in the short term.
In reply to Dukes
You want government interfering with cricket in Guyana? How did that work for the last time?
In reply to Overthrow
The GoG has always "interfered" in Guyana cricket. No wonder at that. It is an established fact that LJ and IA have an excellent relationship. It is expected that Leon will be well taken care of going forward. Again, no wonder in that.
It is amazing that third-world countries and their citizens should think that their governments shouldn't be involved in sports especially when they have the means to do so. For what Leon has done on and off the field in Guyana cricket, what with 6 regional titles to show for it AND not always having the best players to do it with he ought to be richly rewarded. I am assured that he will be.
In reply to cumberland
There is no separation of sport from politics - any other view is delusional.
Congratulations LJ
Now get together with Sarwan and move cricket forward.
I would hope this isnt the end of the journey.
Purge every geezer out of the system!
I am happy that we have a core of youngsters making their way
Sinclair
Nandu
Savory
Imlach
Joseph
Anderson
In reply to doosra
Sinclair X 2
In reply to Raskil
hope to see him in the mix some next year
In reply to Chrissy
This is comical, you same posters are always up in arms about government interference in areas you deem sacred. I suppose you are all so happy with CWI and their sanctimonious destruction of WI cricket. Encourage that also, you want interference.
In reply to Overthrow
if you expect governments to pump money in and not have a say you have to think again, whether you agree or not
the same for public universities...gov subsidize and want to have some say even in an institution that is supposed to be independent in its thinking etc...the fact is if you ask people for money they will want to have a say
if you tell them to stay away, they will keep their money or just spend it in their constituents
it's often a thin line...
In reply to Overthrow
You posters? Bro I delivered lectures on Sports, Politics and Society and Sport and Media for 20 years. Both were informed by facts. Sports and politics have always been connected.
So I juat went to check the score.
Unbelievable today really all fools day.
Got to be LI wanted to give Jihnson a gift on his retirement
Thata all I got to say
In reply to Raskil
That will take some doing!

This is after all Guyana we are speaking of!
Theres a grey area between support and interference.
Providing facilities, promoting tourism, financial backing
all necessary for cricket to move forward in financially stressed nations.
The boards and CWI behave like theyre accountable to no one at times.
If not for government inference the cricketing world may not have had the opportunity to experience the brilliance of Clive Lloyd ..
DWL, the government of India and Modi are constantly derided on this board for not allowing players from Pakistan play in the IPL. Now government interference in sport is acceptable as part of the norm. Hypocrisy at the highest level.
In reply to positiveg
U C the post when I said not even VOR can intervene? and U said U haven't seen him in a long time?
Man, I was W R O N G! Only VOR could have done that.
Thought Windwards and Leewards had a good relationship. What I saw on show today especially from Cornwall and Archibald leaves nothing but questions. Spencer is a joke. This is upsetting as a combined islands supporter.
In reply to Mustwin
Indeed!
In reply to Mustwin
big Rak was not well i think and i think the issue of not being able to run quickly got exposed a bit more today
in a close situation you want your batters to be able to run singles etc...
but yea they panicked
In reply to doosra
Nah, they cyant panick like that, someone must have taken them out for drinks last evening.
In reply to tops
or some kinda 'wuk' going on
but seriously, that was VOR. DOT.
In reply to Overthrow
Clive Lloyd led the WI team to work dominance!
