FORMER ST Vincent and the Grenadines Women’s captain and Windward Islands batsman, Stacy Ann Adams, has been appointed the first woman on the Windwards selection panel.

Directors of the Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB), under new president Dwain Gill, ratified the historic appointment of Adams at their annual general meeting this past Thursday in the Grenada capital.

“I am thankful and delighted to be named in such esteemed company as a selector for the WICB,” Adams said in a news release.

“I am thrilled by the appointment and the arrant confidence and faith that the board has shown in me.

“I have always been a mere humble servant of the sport, and as such, I am prepared to work hard with profound integrity and professionalism to give my best in this role, adding to the continuity and development of Windward Islands cricket.”

Another SVG first, I told you guys that SVG was the first place where I saw women playing cricket competitively and openly, and not afraid to walk with their bats.

Is the new appointee by any chance the WICB President's relative?

I'm just curious because they're both from SVG.

No, not even close (well, only if unbeknown to me he is from the Greenfield extended family).

BTW, I wasn't insinuating that all Vincites are related. It's just curious that he appointed a countrywoman to the position at a time when we're giving flack on nationalism bias.

POINT 2023-05-11 02:53:27

I am waiting to see if the current President of the WICB
who is from SVG can do a better job than his predecessors. Time will inform those living in the Region ,and also those in the Diasporas .

It seems that some sensibility has finally come to those in the WICBC.I sincerely hope that the era of ignoring good competent Players has finally come to an end.

In this Forum I have always stated that Players regardless
of their nationality MUST get a chance to display their abilities.

I ONLY WANT THE BEST PLAYERS WHOSE ABILITIES WARRANT THEIR

SELECTION ON THE TEAM , TO BE SELECTED . I THEREFORE HOPE

THAT FROM NOW ON ALL PLAYERS MUST BE SELECTED ON MERIT.

If most of the best Players in the Region happen to be from one Country , I have absolutely no problem with that. They must be selected on the Team .

I sincerely hope that what I have stated here will not only be seriously considered, so that Good Players, regardless of their nationality Must have a chance to be on the Team .

I simply want All Players in the Region to be selected on Merit to be on the Team . I really don't believe that, is
a monumental task to do.
