30 years old who will be 31 years old next month has been selected in both 50 over squads to tour UAE as well as take part in the World Cup qualifiers. He has played 5 One Day Internationals for the West Indies and taken 4 wickets for 248 runs at an average of 62 and an economy rate of 7.40..In his last ODI match representing the West Indies he bowled 3.3 overs and conceded 49 runs which included 6 fours and 3 sixes,a match WI lost with more than 20 overs to spare. In his previous match for the WI he had concede 47 runs off 5 overs.
Interestingly prior to this Cariah had conceded 77 runs in 9 overs as WI lost a 50 over match after making 301 runs.
The question that one should therefore ask is why is Cariah in the team? What is his overall record in List A matches and what has he done in recent List A matches to justify his selection?
The answer to the first question is above my pay grade.
The answer to the second question is in 31 List A matches he has taken 38 wickets at 25.44 apiece and an economy rate of 5.34 which is not bad. However in the Super 50 Final for Trinidad vs Jamaica he was the most expensive bowler for his team in their loss to Jamaica, bowling 10 overs for 65 runs.In the semi-final despite conceding 53 runs in 6 overs his team prevailed.
Not only is Cariah selected for the white ball series in UAE and the World Cup qualifiers, he is currently in the red ball team tour of Bangladesh. How is that selection justified?
In 2023 he played 2 first class matches and took 2 wickets for 122 runs.Despite those returns he was selected to play for WI A and is the preferred spin bowler to a young spin bowler who had 2 five wicket hauls recently.
Is this INCOMPETENCE or worse yet MALFEASANCE???????

Cariahs selection to any WI team makes as much sense as those of Raymon Reifer and Roston Chase
Its not incompetence. Its blatant malfeasance.

Be careful you don't fall into the dark insular pit, cause you won't be able to come out of it.
Yannick is better than Keemo
I am assuming that they plan to rotate players for the second match so I dont expect Cariah to play. I think that they can stick with Sinclair and Motie as they need as much FC bowling as possible and bring in another seamer. They can probably rest Reifer and maybe Tage for two different batsmen.
Left over from the "must have a leggie" policy
He was seen as a better option than Walsh at the time, but wicb seems committed to at least give him a moderate run

Get with the program - intangibles are part of the resources of Haynes & Company Limited!
Given the scenario you presented, Cariah is not fit for selection on a bush league team.
In reply to Emir
Not even you seem willing to jump into that insular pit and seemingly wish to decline putting up facts to justify Cariah's inclusion in both white ball squads as well as this current red ball team in Bangladesh.
In reply to Emir
Apparently the Canadian I music is just as insular as I am!!!!!
In reply to Dukes
I said nothing about Cariah- neither justified his selection nor condemned it. I left it alone, I have no opinion, but I will say he is lucky.
My comments to you was only about you grinning your entire face for a poster who made this insular comment:
By your grinning your face out you have unwittingly contributed to an insular comment, thus my warning to you.

Carriah should have been introduced to international earlier his time has past, there are much better prospect out now, it a real waste pick, Kevin Sinclear should be all format player, he is the perfect
a perfect replacement for Chase in both ODI nd test
In reply to Emir
That is ridiculous!!!
Sudden's comment was not a serious one.He was ribbing Barry et al and I found it funny and pertinent because the said person responded with a diatribe about Sinclair thus making Sudden's point.
Insularity is borne out of ignorance. My knowledge about my ancestry means that I would have to be bordering on mad to be insular in view of the many diverse backgrounds of my family whether it be Bajan,Antiguan,Jamaican,Panamanian or St Lucian.

thank god you are not insular!!

You'll be hard-pressed to find a Trini who believes Cariah should be on a TnT team, far less a WI one.

Anybody who examines the career of Yannic Cariah in both red ball cricket as well as white ball cricket and looks at his performances over the last 4 years might feel a COMMISSION OF ENQUIRY is needed to find out why he was selected for this red ball tour with West Indies A as well as both white ball tours to UAE as well as the World Cup qualifiers.
IT IS THAT EGREGIOUS!!!!!!!
However the Caribbean Journalists have not asked anything about this and the beat goes on.
The fans do not give a flying you know what!!!!!

Hello, TT cricket resources are a little thin on the ground!! I think that Cariah deserves to be on the TT red ball team. I do not believe that he merits a place on the WI white ball teams and I would have preferred if a Kevin Wickham had gone on the A tour. Alas, I am not a selector

Barry Wilkinson asked that question this evening on the Mason show.
I did not know Cariah has not played a White ball match for his franchise in sometime.

Cariah was supposed to be the next great from the twin island. he was on the same plane as KB, but he failed to rise and fulfill the promise.
In reply to tc1
Cariah is not our problem, CWI lack of programs have failed our players.
That why I go after the BCA for the product being produce..

Here is what you need to do.
1.Ascertain the first class and list A records overall and recent of Cariah along with his competitors
2.Ask yourself why would he be selected with such a record comparatively speaking.
Unless and until you do that, you have absolutely NO IDEA WTF is going on in WI cricket
