Chennai Super Kings Squad:
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Mitchell Santner, Subhranshu Senapati, Shaik Rasheed, Akash Singh, Ben Stokes, Dwaine Pretorius, Sisanda Magala, Ajay Jadav Mandal, Prashant Solanki, Simarjeet Singh, RS Hangargekar, Bhagath Varma, Nishant Sindhu
- This match will be MS Dhoni's 250th appearance in IPL - the first player to achieve the milestone.
- Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored a half-century in each of the four encounters against Gujarat Titans
- Shubman Gill needs 122 runs to equal Virat Kohli's record of most runs (973) in an IPL season
Deepak Chahar is one of the rare bowlers who has had some success against Shubman Gill. The seamer has dismissed the in-form GT opener thrice in 47 balls, while conceding 62 runs, in IPL. His spell upfront will be the key for CSK.
Similarly, the out-of-form Ambati Rayudu, could have a role to play in countering Rashid Khan in the middle overs. The batter has scored 91 runs off the leggie in 73 balls, getting dismissed only once.
"The game doesn't change but the outcome does. It's really hard not to look too far ahead and dream of winning it again. To be a part of it is what we sit out to do, that's our purpose." - Stephan Fleming, CSK head coach, on the nervousness of the final
"Shubman has batted for a lion's share of overs and we are very pleased that he is doing that. At any given time there can only be two batters. If the entirety of our overs, if it's just the openers batting, it's just fine by us - Vikram Solanki, GT Director of Cricket
A team which boasts of both the orange cup and purple cap holder is meant to be dominant. Shubman Gill (orange cap) has scored 3 tons in his last 4 games and has accumulated 851 runs so far in this season tells you the young man has taken the stage by storm.
GT has the three highest wicket-takers this season Shami (2

The defending champions are in great rhythm and would be hungry to win back-to-back trophies.
Toss delayed due to rain

"It's windy and pouring," says Aayush. "Some lightning and thunder as well. Chants of 'Dhoni, Dhoni' aren't stopping
19:18 Local Time, 13:48 GMT, 19:18 IST:
Okay, so after looking at the playing conditions, contrary to what we reported earlier (which was based on last season's guidelines), there is no reserve day. 12.26am is the cut-off for a five-over contest. If that doesn't happen, and a Super Over also isn't possible, GT will win the title.
Apologies for the confusion earlier, we finally have clarification that there is a reserve day tomorrow. Also, no overs will be lost until 9.35pm local. And for a five-over game, the cut-off time is 12.06am.
Some good news from Ahmedabad. "Rain has stopped," reports Aayush.
Annnd it's drizzling again... argh
Oops, maybe the last update jinxed it. Because Ayush now says the rain has got heavier again.
In reply to Narper
Give Paulie the title and allyuh go home.
Today is football not fixit lickit for bookies
This is as Indian as prepone

The rain is down to a drizzle. Umpires are out there having a look. Super sooper in full swing. Just a reminder, we can have a 9:35 PM start without overs being lost.

Its Johnny B with Dhoni in the running.
But Al Jo and Odean Smith are in the GT and in the hunt too
Oh, no! We all were feeling upbeat but the rain has made a return! It has been that kind of a evening.
Alright folks! We are slowly getting into that territory where we will have some official news.
Ding! Here it goes -
the game has been postponed for tomorrow.

Deshpande produces a chance, but Chahar drops it at square leg. That's a sitter. Fullish and veering into the pads, Gill checks another flick and chips it in the air. Chahar does a David and shells it. Will Gill press on to punish Chahar and CSK?
There's a pattern here. Drop Gill early and he goes on to score a ton.
In reply to Drapsey
Shubman Gill dropped on 3
Tushar Deshpande to Shubman Gill, 1 run, is that a drop catch? Oh dear! Dhoni had the fielder in the perfect position at backward square, it goes straight to him and Chahar drops a regulation catch. That too of Shubman Gill! Fuller than a length, on the pads of Gill who flicks uppishly. What a stroke of luck for him!

today dropped on 3

3.3
Tushar Deshpande to Shubman Gill, FOUR, three in a row from Gill! Slower length ball outside off, Gill allows it to come on before punching it crisply through extra cover
3.2
Tushar Deshpande to Shubman Gill, FOUR, flicked in the air and lands wide of deep midwicket! Full into the pads, Gill lets his wrists take over, whips it nicely and comes right off the middle. There is a fielder at the boundary who charges to his left, but he fails to get there
3.1
Tushar Deshpande to Shubman Gill, FOUR, slower one into the pitch, Gill waits on it and pulls it superbly through midwicket! Made a cracking sound off his bat
5.5
Theekshana to Shubman Gill, FOUR, now the sweep over square leg! Has that carried all the way? No, just short. It's a flat length ball on middle, Gill gets low and times the pants off it
5.4
Theekshana to Shubman Gill, FOUR, Gill comes charging down and hammers it over extra cover! Oh he's putting on a show again! Such a difficult shot against someone like Theekshana who fires it through the air, but he executes it brilliantly
5.3
Theekshana to Shubman Gill, FOUR, another error in the field! CSK not quite at their best so far! Slightly short outside off, Gill cuts hard to point and it should've been stopped by Conway. But he hardly gets a hand while sliding across

Shubman Gill st Dhoni b Jadeja 39(20) [4s-7]

Pathirana to Sai Sudharsan, out Lbw!! End of an outstanding knock from Sai Sudharsan! He has showed his class and range tonight. Very full ball, tailing in from outside off, Sai Sudharsan tries to play it across but misses to be pinged on the pads. Up goes the umpire's finger. The review doesn't work but Sai Sudharsan has scored the highest score for an uncapped player in an IPL final!

Good news! The covers are off. Groundstaff busy making the pitch game-ready as Conway and Ruturaj wait anxiously in the dug-out
Gaikwad is on strike.
Shami will open the attack

Shami to Gaikwad, FOUR off the mark with the boundary is Ruturaj Gaikwad!
Oh no! It's coming down hard now. Bails dislodged and off we go...the groundstaff storm into the centre and for now the pitch is covered. The bigger covers are now being brought on to cover the square. Crowd rushing for cover. Let's hope this is just a passing shower.
Good news fellas! The covers are coming off. Looks like one of the practice pitches has taken a lot of water and the groundstaff are doing their best to dry it out. We are hearing that the next official update will be at 10:45 PM
Out walk both the umpires. They are having a keen look at the concerned pitch as the Super Sopper continues its work. Still some saw dust being applied on the edges.

GT 214/4 (20)
CSK 171/5 (15)
Chennai Super Kings won by 5 wkts (DLS method)
01:36 Local Time, 20:06 GMT, 01:36 IST: It is 1:36 in the morning, we've had to play this game over three days but it still went down to the very last ball of the competition. And now we can say it again - CSK are champions again!!
A chase that was truncated down to 15 overs, got off to a solid start with their openers Ruturaj and Devon Conway getting them a top start once again. It was Conway who was the more aggressive, taking down Shami and Hardik in the powerplay. The introduction of Noor Ahmad got GT the wickets, as he dismissed both openers in the same over. It slowed like the scoring rate would slow down, but out walked Ajinkya Rahane who smoked two classy sixes off Josh Little. He then got two boundaries against Rashid, while his partner Dube struggled to find his timing. Dube finally found his gear in the final Rashid Khan over, hitting him for two sixes and getting CSK back in the contest. Rayudu was the next CSK batter to be a hero, he was the only one to pick Mohit Sharma's slower ones and slam it over the boundary ropes. Rayudu fell and then Dhoni was out first ball. Mohit Sharma then delivered almost the perfect last over, nailing four yorkers but then Sir Jadeja decided he'll have the final laugh, finishing the game off with a six and a four to eternalize his place in CSK folklore. Over to the presentations now...
6 - Rohit Sharma
6 - Ambati Rayudu
5 - Hardik Pandya
5 - Kieron Pollard
5 - MS Dhoni
The guy that bowled that death over conceded 3 runs in his first 4 deliveries and with 10 needed from 2 balls that tall chap with the cap that always seems to be prancing about in the dugout thought he needed to show his importance.
Why would you send out a message at that stage to the bowler who seemed to have things under control?
Looks like management and not only the players are involved in the racket .....
