Already off to a curious start....
Sabalenka of Belarus beat Ukraine's Kostyuk at three and two in the first round, in a match that ended acrimoniously.
Kostyuk refused Sabalenka's offer of a handshake at the net, and was booed by the Parisian crowd.
Go, Sabalenka!

Now Thiem is also out. His decline is massive.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Injuries have taken their toll....
Alcaraz looked very good!
Tiafoe won his first round match in straight sets. So too did Jabeur and Ruud.
However, Gauff had to come from one set down to beat a strong opponent.
In reply to mikesiva
Medvedev is out!
The Brazilian Wild takes out the Med. Wow!

Former Womens Champion Krejzicova out as well!
Lovely entertainment from Gael- leading Baez 2-1.
In reply to Kay
No he played on but exports said he was sick right thru
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Not that I read anywhere
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Medvedev doesn't like the clay, which apparently doesn't like him in return.
Rybakina looked very good in her first round match. Great serves, great overheads.
Rune needed four sets to get past the promising American Eubanks. Rune's a contender for the title, while Eubanks is one to watch for the future.
#5 seed Frenchwoman Garcia falls to Blinkova after saving 9 match points ...
In reply to Kay
Sabalenka and Stephens advance to the third round with straight sets wins.
Carlos in charge 6-1 3rd set
Djoka thru with ease
In reply to Chrissy
Fernandez out.
In reply to Chrissy
I wouldn't say with ease. He had to battle hard to cling on to the first set.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Rybakina wins at three and three to reach the third round.
The Russian Kazakh has to be a contender for the title.
Tiafoe came from a set down to win in four, but the Sinner man went out.
Gauff won her second round match in straight sets.
Watching Gauff a bit more this year, I can see that she's made improvements, especially to her first serve. When she started out, her serve was all over the place. Now, her coach has made significant improvements to her first serve, which is very fast and effective now.
However, Gauff still doesn't have a great action. Serena and Stosur had excellent service actions, which is why they were also able to produce outstanding kick serves on their second serve. Gauff falls away a bit in her service action, which militates against her developing an effective kick serve on her second serve.
There's room for improvement, and she's still young. But right now, she's still a notch behind the Big Three of:
Swiatek
Rybakina
Sabalenka
Stephens looks great..until she doesn't waiting for her to suffer a spectacular inexplicable defeat..
Gauff is still very raw and uncooked as a player..
Rybakina looking dangerous..will be interesting to see if she goes the distance..
In reply to hotarobin
More booing, this time for American Taylor Fritz, who shushed the partisan French crowd, who were cheering on his French opponent.
Apparently Taylor not looking for French support
And more politics, this time Djokovic expressing support for Serbs in Kosovo.
Djokovic stands by his statement
In reply to mikesiva
Been following that - the French Ministermof sports should have stayed out of that.
Sabalenka wins with ease
At this stage if i have to pick someone to mix it up with the top 3 i will go with the #9 seed Daria Kasatkina.....
In reply to Kay
Svitolina and Stephens had to work hard for their three-set wins over Russian opponents to make it into the fourth round.
In reply to mikesiva
The Russian refuse to shake hands at the end of the match with Svitolina
In reply to imusic
Politics is very much a part of this French Open.
Sabalenka skips political post-match press conference
Rybakina pulls out of her third round match with illness. One of the Big Three gone.
In reply to mikesiva
Was watching the Brazilian abuser Wild re the code violator Nishioka. Wild also squashed his racquet.
Neither is winning the FO
Ruud wins. Rune will soon win and it looks like Wild will lose in five.
Coco should have already have won the 1st set but is now hoping for a tiebreaker
In reply to Chrissy
Gauff lost the first set on a tiebreaker, but easily romped through the next two, to advance to the fourth round.
The way the British and European media are drooling over Andreeva, you'd think they'd forgotten she's Russian!
Yes, the 16-year old Russian has talent, but her serve is still weak. She needs more power in her serve, like the Big Three, or she'll end up being another Kournikova.
Meanwhile, Swiatek dishes out a double bagel to Wang!
In reply to mikesiva
Haddad Maia in charge set 3
Wozniaki not ready for tv commentary ...
In reply to Kay
Why not?
In reply to mikesiva
I have no sympathy for Sabalenka (who I like and is my wifes favourite tennis player)
She said she doesnt feel safe at the press conference because the reporter asked her about the war?
WTF?
Does she even realize what an entitled, privileged statement that is?
She doh feel safe? What about the little girls in Ukraine that having the shit bombed out of their homes amd families killed by your government and who they support?
We know you have nothing personally to do with it, but you could earn the huge amounts of money you do and fulfil your obligations to the press without hiding behind mental wellness
Bullshit to de max!
In reply to imusic
Agree - cyan root fi her after dat
In reply to imusic
Are you answerable for the decisions your government make? She can't publicly support nor condemn the war. She was badgered with several questions at the previous press conference. I suspect she means mentally not physically unsafe. I bet we all sympathized with Naomi.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Lemme guess. Kosovo is the heartbeat of Serbia for you too ent?
In reply to imusic
Keep guessing.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy and imusic
Interesting discussion.
Zverev beat Tiafoe in four sets.
Jabeur won her match to advance to the fourth round.
With Rybakina out, the chances of Ons and Gauff have just improved a little bit more.
In reply to mikesiva
Gauff's game is just missing something..I still can't identify any specific strength in her game..
What I can say is that she has the perfect body for the game sort of like Federer.. I hope I don't curse her but I don't expect her to suffer much injuries throughout her career..
Rybakina unexpected exit has certainly changed things.. If only Stephens really wanted to be great, the sky would be the limit for her but she lack consistent hunger..
It's looking like Swiatek may go all the way..
In reply to hotarobin
I agree about Gauff. Her game seems to be based around retrieving the ball, and hitting one more return than the opposing player. However, my concern is that when she comes up against a top player, under pressure her serve and her forehand breaks down. Room for improvement there.
With Stephens, it's disappointing that a player of her talent has only won one Grand Slam title at the age of 30. A lot of missed opportunities. She has her work cut out for her later today against Sabalenka, one of the favourites.
Meanwhile, it's been a good day for the Russians, with both Khachanov and Pavlyuchenkova advancing to the quarter finals.
In reply to imusic
Have you seen the Wild Brazilian Nazi comments.
Carlos is delivering a clinic here.
In reply to Chrissy
Alcaraz cruising....
Ukrainian Svitolina beats Russian Kasatkina in straight sets. The Russian doesn't offer a handshake at the net. As she's leaving the court, the French crowd boo Kastakina.
I wonder if those French boos are okay....
Wild the Brazilian Nazi
Stephens put up a good fight, but lost to the hard-hitting Sabalenka 7-6,6-4.
Icily done coco and Casper
In reply to Chrissy
Jabeur and Swiatek advanced easily too, but Rune needed a fifth set tiebreak to get to the quarterfinals.
Svitolina out. Sabalenka and Muchova advance to the semis. Djokovic reaches the last four too, and looks odds on for another French Open title.

Di Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia wins 6-1.
A major achievement dis.
No.14 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia has become the first Brazilian woman to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal in 55 years and now shes in the semis.
In reply to Chrissy
Who the heck is this Haddad Maia girl that is beating everybody??? Never seen her play even though shes ranked #14.
In reply to StumpCam
Ive been watching her for the past year or so. Has beaten some good players.
Coco loses Set 1 to Swiatek 6-4
Coco loses in two - Swiatek wins
In reply to imusic
Djoker and Fuzzy living In your head rent free.
Coco needs to sort out her coaching issues ....
In reply to Kay
Could it be that Swiatek is a better player...at this stage?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
I was referring to her game in general. And yes, Swiatek is in a different class at this stage....
Tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas blames sleeping pills and naps for French Open defeat
What an excuse!!
In reply to Kay
LOL
Good win fi Casper Ruud
In reply to Kay
Coco doesn't have a great game.. She is spongy...a very ordinary player..she needs a different direction else she will just be a very good player and nothing else..
In reply to Chrissy
Swiatek and Sabalenka should win their semi finals easily today.
In reply to mikesiva
Just hold it ... Sabalenka seems to be in big trouble
A stunning upset - Muchova wins
In reply to Kay
Well it was on her racquet - she was leading 5-2 and blew it.
In reply to Chrissy
I dont think it was stunning! Muchova played well all tournament!
In reply to mikesiva
The lesson: don't count the chickens before they're hatched.

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Swiatek hung on and saw off Haddad Maia
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Well, I certainly didn't see that coming!
Let me try again....
Alcaraz vs Djokovic
Ruud vs Zverev
The winner of the first semi should easily beat the winner of the second semi in the final.
In reply to mikesiva
Joka off to a brilliant start..
The wind is terrible!
Carlos has bad cramps - not good
In reply to Chrissy
Nah Chrissy

Dis is a proper ass whuppin from the Djoka.
No excuse from Carlos.
Djoka wins.
In reply to imusic
Thank you on behalf of Fuzzy and Djoker.
In reply to imusic
Wait Dorothy wait Dorothy wait Dorothy wait.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Congrats to Djoka. He deserved his wIn today.
In reply to imusic
No doubt Carlitos will be a major champion, Djoker says he ain't done yet. He openly says he is not too worried about what happens outside slams, he is focused on slams. He calls them marathons not sprints and feels he can still be anybody in slams.
Big win Djoka
That was some beat up in the final two sets ...
In reply to Kay
Nah, man, Carlitos was hampered by cramps
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Serious thing ...you don't believe that cramps were a factor?
In reply to JohnBull
Of course they were. Wasn't it obvious?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Ruud crushed the over-rated Zverev in straight sets....
In reply to mikesiva
Ruud is a solid player.
In reply to mikesiva
Zverev has issues. He might be back physically from his ankle injury last year, but o suspect his mental recovery is not yet back.
In reply to Chrissy
Yes he is, but ask Andy Murray. Solid doesn't win titles. Ruud has never even won a 500...I think.
He's been the recipient of some lucky draws. Has 1 win vs a top 5.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Massacre in Paris!
Swiatek slaughtering Muchova...6-2 in the first set of the final.
In reply to mikesiva
Looks like you jump the gun again Mike ....
