My good friend Professor Terrence Blackman has started a petition drive aimed at renaming the Providence Stadium to the Clive Lloyd Stadium. The merits and demerits of such a change are well known to all those who know Guyana.

Petition- Providence to Clive Lloyd Stadium
Rohan Kanhai stadium?
In reply to Dukes
The merits and demerits of such a change are well known to all those who know Guyana.
How you mean?
There are stadiums named after Sammy, Viv, and Lara, the latter not yet used for test cricket.
Other venues name stands in honor of their great cricket servants.
There's a statue of Gary Sobers at Kensington.
Make a statue of him and his many friends- that is all
In reply to Curtis
Educate yourself
How you mean?
Your question suggests that you do not know Guyana.
I refuse to believe that.
In reply to Dukes
Maybe they should call it the Lloyd/Kanhai stadium
that should solve the problem
In reply to Dukes
I take slight offense to "Educate Yourself ". Absolutely most of us know Sobers is a National hero. There is a roundabout named after him plus a statue at Oval.
Anyhow, I didn't want to jump to conclusions regarding merits and demerits hence the question.

Blasphemy!
In reply to Dukes
Is Mr. Blackman aware Providence was built with money from India???
In reply to FanAttick
That would exacerbate the problem in some Guyanese eyes.
In reply to StumpCam
Yes he is.
Next question
In reply to FanAttick
Solve which problem?
Dawg bite Lance Gibbs?
Then Butcher and Solomon?
Freddo, Kalli?
Then Hooper, Shiv and Sarwan?

Bacanal in Mudland
I am not in favor, generally, of naming a main national Stadium after a player. I am in favor of recognizing greatness accordingly.
In reply to Dukes
DCC stands a better chance of being renamed in Lloyds honor!
In reply to Dukes
Deo with image of him 6 to seal GY T20 title.
With all the stars Guyana has produced, this will cause plenty bachannal
it is very surprising how reluctant successive governments have been even at the level of renaming the stands - they remain green, red, orange, etc
In reply to doosra
It really isnt! Stumpy made a noteworthy comment a few posts back re: the Indian Government and Providence Stadium.
Lets leave Providence alone. When the One Guyana stadium is built at Palmyra then....
In reply to cumberland
I missed that comment but I wonder if i can allow my mind to run wild on it lol
so you think Palmyra will be the Cumberland bai national stadium?
In reply to doosra
At least skin colour

Look here
Jeremy done rename every stand and end and box in that grong
Alas, no more stands left so sorry Mr Lloyd, Hooper, King, Gibbs, Harper and Lambert
In reply to doosra
Here is a thought....
Make some money off the stadium by offering sponsorship. The stands can be named after players.
"The Limacol Stadium"
"Banks Beer Stadium"
"Eldorado Stadium"
etc
In reply to doosra
NO! Not at ALL! Remember he was persona non grata at Pressy Palmyra meet. Romario attended and we see the rewards that got him.
At any rate there are far more noteworthy stalwarts of the Ancient County!
In reply to cumberland
Yes his absence was noticeable but i didn't read much into it...well he is doing alright

I took a picture with him in June when I visited for the commissioning of the bowling machine in Rose Hall
Palmyra S/B named after the forever 'Young Michael Chin"
There is only one West Indies captain who led the WI for more than a decade and ushered them into an through their period of dominance, AND won two WC's. Alyuh carry on making arguments for lesser people.
BTW they LOVE Lloyd in India and would be more than happy of his name is put on the stadium that their LOAN helped to build.
I think they should leave the stadium name as it is... But they need to find names for the different areas within the stadium...
1. Green stand
2. Red stand
3. Orange stand
4. Grass mound
5. Top and bottom ends
6. Main scoreboard area
7. Media Centre
8. Players dressing rooms
9. Mini scoreboard area (Convert into a small pavilion)
In reply to Larr Pullo
So Rohan is one of the lesser persons? Burnham philosophy?
