Wow! Time flies...used to see him on PBS in the late 80s - 90s. Rip. Of course, a moderate stance in race relations in SA was deemed a sell out. Fool, stop. confused

A "Sell-out"? Maybe. But the jury is still out on him.

Unfortunately, I don't think the ANC has done enough to improve the economic circumstances of the majority of Black South Africans since coming into power. At the same time, the party's top echelon has enriched themselves.

It is questionable whether Buthelezi's approach would have made matters better, as he was more interested in establishing the Zulus at the expense of all other Black South Africans with the assistance and encouragement of the Apartheid regime and system.

A negotiated power change is not going to produce instant economic transformation for the majority, the process takes time.

100% right you are!

"[M]oderate stance in race relations" and "jury is still out on him" my arse! He allowed the paleskin settlers to drive a wedge between native Azanians. Just imagine if the Zulus were brought along... how much easier it would've made the fight. 'Sellout' is correct.

The ANC has failed to dismantle the oppressive economic structures of apartheid

True dat. But said Buthelezi is part of the reason for it since he could always have been relied upon by the settlers to oppose and sow suspicion. Heaven knows I don't praise Nelson Mandela's presidency, because of how passive he'd been, but I can almost see Mandela's position because of the existence of the likes of Buthelezi.

Yes he was a total sell out and a bullwark against Black unity. A total stooge for and to the Apartheid regime.
Yet Mandela, a Zhosa had him in his administration.
He was not a fan of the ANC, the true freedom fighters. Had he been, Apartheid itself could have ended
long before it did . But history is history.

He should have been at the forefront in uniting all Azanians and that is how I will always remember him as
Tool of the enemy.

Rumor in some circles had it that he and some Zulus also collaborated with the CIA on behalf of the Apartheid
regime in capturing Mandela to begin with. There could be some truth to this too. I read of a former CIA operate
admitting to the CIA's role in that event.
But who to believe ???
The undeniable truth is that Buthelezi was a sellout.

Man not even Jamaica and tons of other formerly oppressed black majority nations have been able to do that. RSA should do it in half the time?
