Who looking like favourites in the Manning Cup and the daCosta Cup?

DaCosta - should be Clarendon
Manning - JC, StATHS, Hydel, StGC
Let's see how close I am come November.
In reply to mikesiva
DaCosta - Manchester High
Manning Cup: Mona followed by Hydel
In reply to FanAttick
Manchester?
I will go with Joe's predictions....
I watched Glenmuir slaughter Central.
In reply to mikesiva
Pay close attention to your 2023 DaCosta Cup Champions Elect
In reply to Chrissy
Central??? Which school is that??? I'm glad that all post primary/junior high schools now have the same status. It will take some a while to catch up. Thankfully Yard still has dedicated teachers and school sports administrators.

Craig Butlers Monas onward match continues
takes down previously unbeaten St Catherine 2-1 to chalk up 4 straight victories
In reply to Brerzerk
Central is formerly May Pen High
Central High 16, Porus High 0
In reply to XDFIX
May Pen High or May Pen Secondary (Senior School)?
In reply to JoeGrine
Yes, May Pen Secondary changed to Central High
May Pen High is an Adventist outfit!
In reply to XDFIX
Was the feeder school for some of CC's legendary track athletes in the 70's and early 80's
According to a release from ISSA, their disciplinary committee found that Hydel exceeded the number of quota players in the game against KC.
Hydel will lose all three points gained in the match and Kingston College will be awarded the points with a score of 3-0.
Hydel will also be placed on three years probation starting September 26, 2023.
In reply to XDFIX
Glenmuir is doing very well in recent times in both academics and sports.
In reply to Chrissy
This win at all cost mentality is endemic throughout all aspects of Yard society
In reply to FanAttick
And they are destroying children and families in the process
In reply to Chrissy
Sadly, in some cases, the family is complicit.

Dem deh DC players got no pride to make Manchester beat dem 5 zip. Yikes. Could never happen in my day lol.
Me no understand how dem can write an article like that a don't explain how a player becomes ineligible. That's just poor journalism.
If ISSA don't want to say it, you take the rule book list the finite ways players can be ineligible. Look at the player and look at his history with the school, his age etc. and rule out the ways one by one. Now that would be reporting worth reading. That would force ISSA to start releasing details instead of speculation.
That was a KC fix. Couldn't handle di beating. How much time dem teef?

Do you remember in the early 80s when Manchester got a bunch of DCs best players including the likes of Kirk Chin, Chris Powell, Jacko Brown and Wayne Sammott and then beat STETHS for the 1st time since before Long Life was a baby? STETHS promptly protested and Manchester were thrown out of the competition on the basis that the transferred players should have sat out one year The idiocy of that ISSA decision was that DC did not have a 6th Form and all of the players had moved to Chester to attend 6th Form

In reply to Chrissy
Glenmuir always in the top 10 in academic affairs!
In reply to FanAttick
I think Hydel also gave up some points by being economical with the truth!

Remember that vividly. They were about 9 former DC players on that Manchester team. And reason why I remember so well was that it would have been the 1st year for me to captain the D-cup team and they came over to play us in a pre-season game and we right out refused to play. They were on the field and we were training and we straight up seh we not playing. We sat down on the field and refused to play. Reason - most of those guys were at DC only months before. I would have played with them the year before on previous years Dcup team.... we could not stand to know that they should have been playing for DC except no 6th form. Bun we bad to see them playing for Manchester
Emotionally none of us were ready to play against those guys. The first time I put on a soccer shoes in my life it belonged to Kirk Chin. Kirk and I played house football for 5 years. All dem guys we played with and we were not ready to play against them, we couldn't and did not want to. 3rd up we were straight up intimidated as we know they would whip our asses. Its a good thing we were not in the same zone that year-cuz I do not think we would be up to playing that game.
But seriously that was a good Manchester team. They would have gone outa zone that year if not for the stupid ISSA rule as they were playing real good. ISSA only use that rule against certain teams as the same year I remember playing Vere Tech and this big ole bearded man score a goal and about half dozen kids run out on the field shouting Daddy, Daddy. That time the Principal of Vere was the president of Rural School Boy football.
In reply to carl0002
Indeed. Chester with that DC contingent could have gone very far in the competition .

Dem ole big bearded men were commonplace back in my time I remember playing Headley Cup cricket vs Holmwood and STETHS and you would think it was a game of men vs boys we were playing against opposition players who had kids the same age as us

Vere Principal was Ben Francis

We need a CC.com lime.
I have recently been dealing with some public sector workers and was badly in need of a good laugh. Carl, thank yuh. I read the above and laughed until I cried.
Anywhere yuh guys meeting with rum I will come to listen.

Man I almost fell off my chair... when I saw the first line of your response, I swore you were going to say...Hey that was me...
Former champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) went on a scoring spree on Saturday when they drubbed Roger Clarke High 20-0
In reply to XDFIX
I think there should be a new rule
the match should be called off once a team concedes 10 goals
I think allowing more than that can be extremely psychologically damaging to the psyche of young impressionable minds
In reply to FanAttick
Yeah 10 nil, should be game over
It's crazy to have kids participating in the competition if they are not ready!
A humiliating experience if ever there was one!
On the other hand, it could be a learning experience for the young lads!
STETHS - Roger Clarke
The extremities of extra-curricular on display.
Just watched Manchester High vs Belair at Manchester High
The Manchester High pitch is probably better than the National Stadium pitch
Manchester played their B team for the 1st half. Belair conceded within the 1st 3 minutes to an opportunistic strike from 16 year old Javier Anderson…the 1st half ended 1-0….
Belair had the better of the 1st 15 minutes of the 2nd half and equalized by way of a goalkeeping mistake at around the 60 minute mark
Manchester then brought on 5 of their 1st team players and then took control of the game and dominated the rest of the half. Anderson who was causing the Belair defenders immense problems then dribbled his way into the box and was chopped down from behind to earn his team a penalty. He took the penalty and scored although the goalkeeper should have done better…Manchester then went up 3-1 in stoppage time by way of an own goal…
Javier Anderson is only 16 and has scored 17 goals so far in the season..I think he has a bright future as a natural goalscorer and very good 1st touch and dribbling skills…Remember the Name…
By the way Carl002 - DC lost to May Day 1-2 to finish 3rd in the group..They still have an outside chance to advance as a best placed 3rd place team but they have to hope other results go their way… Manchester High is now ranked #2 behind Clarendon College in the D-Cup and will face the 31st ranked team in the next round. Currently the number 31 ranked team is Decarteret so Manchester cant face them in the next round(since they are both from the same group) so they will likely face the 30th ranked team instead…
In reply to FanAttick
I hardly follow football closely anymore so I am not up to all the rule changes etc. but when were you able to change a whole 5 players in a single game

In reply to FanAttick
They backed into the 2nd round like this last year only to pick up 5.
In reply to XDFIX
Back in the 1960s, when Jamaica College were dominant, their headmaster told the boys to ensure they didn't beat a team more than 6-0. They disobeyed, and hammered a team something like 12-0. The next day, the boys were lined up outside the head's office for a caning!
In reply to mikesiva
Lol that's true discipline
How good is Mona's Denzel McKenzie, is he the real McCoy!
I see Butler touting him in every interview!
In reply to XDFIX
I'd rank him in the top 7 amongst Manning Cup players.
In reply to XDFIX
Shouldn't that be Porous High?
Rass man....couldn't they have applied the mercy rule
In reply to JoeGrine
Watched a few YouTube clips, but didn't see him as dominant as Whisper. I heard Butler saying that McKenzie at 16 could easily fit into the current national team setup!
Perhaps a case of the fisherman's syndrome!
In reply to newdread
Man, Fan and myself argued for the 10 nil rule - 16-0 is savagery!
Unlike the JC Principal, according to Mikesiva!
In reply to XDFIX
There are players from Haile Selassie, StATHS and STGC who are better than he is.
In reply to JoeGrine
Those schools are competitive so far!
Points
Mona, Wolmer's, JC for Manning Cup.
In reply to XDFIX
Those standings are not up to date, however, you are correct, those 3 schools should make the top 8 and I won't be surprised to see at least StATHS in the finals.
