Until someone directs a delivery at his head
possibly
In reply to Jumpstart
Really dude???
In reply to Kay
Homie you know as well as I that Hope is a terrible puller and hooker. Why do you think he averages only 26 in tests? No fielding restrictions. The only person worse than Hope against the short hall in the WI is Bonber
In reply to Jumpstart
Did you the catch the spell in which Fidel short- pitched deliveries made Pooran run to the square leg ump for protection?
In reply to Castled
True. Fidel was bowling well over 90mph in that spell though. It wasnt bouncers bold by broad and anderson
In reply to sgtdjones A treeknee at the bar last night wasnt impressed with Shai's ODI/TEST temperament...but, Shai persevered and carry it home for the Warriors. Fool stop.

Bim bowling strategy was poorly thought out in the early days of lickit cricket when T&T manned by Ganga, Pollard the Bravos, Simmons, Narine etc ruled the roost.
With serious quicks in Fidel, Tino, Roach the tactics should have been short pitched thunderbolts at the rib cage and throat/head.
The tits feasted on fast length bowling Bim's quicks served up. Quick short pitched deliveries with pace and intent from Tino and Fidel would have been a different story. Pollard the Bravos and Pooran dont handle short pitched thunderbolts well at all.
In reply to Castled
The tits never like fast bowling, even.tje greatest tit did the bunny hop.
In reply to Kay
Its a good point! Test cricket is different. If he has sorted out the technician deficiencies of handling the short ball, not driving on the up, bat coming down straight, tightening up bat n pads closer together then yes hes our best. But, those are lots to do.
Real credit to Shai for expanding his game
In reply to doosra
I heard him speaking about some of his training routines, which some mornings can start at 3
It is also good to have someone who can spot you, have video from various angles, and assist you with your training routine.
In reply to Castled
Hoss you didnt watch the game between Bim and TT on Earl Barrow day in 2012 where Barbados were cleaned up for 90 and Fidel and Tino were so incensed that they bowled fire and brimstone at us
we lost five wickets but they couldnt get through Pollard who scored more than a third of the runs and took us home. Tino was so vex that day eh. Bharath offered him a handshake and Tino passed the dude straight yes. Theres actually footage of it on YouTube.
Barbados had several fundamental problems. Their pacers were either too slow or too wild( in Tinos case) to challenge the TT team in t20s on a consistent basis. Jamaica had ironically beaten us in the super 50 the year previous because they had Jerome Taylor who was very fast and very accurate. I think Dre Russ was there as well and he was the same sort of bowler
In reply to tc1
Any bajan who debuted in the last 30 years ever scored hundreds versus Brett Lee, Waqar and Wasim(four in one season; one at Sabina), Donald, McGrath, Gillespie etc?
Allyuh men just ceaselessly bitter at the spectacular collapse of your cricket eh
In reply to Jumpstart
I am not up to date with the White ball format, but it is only Gang's reign any Trini should be talking about.
Allyuh was as pitiful as the Combined Island/Leewards and Windwards.
I witnessed Gary running thru a Trini team, as if it was a pick up match.
I am not surprise of the twin Island liking the T20 format, it is like going to a Fet, or liming.
In reply to openning /jumpstart
Wasnt it Tino, Fidel and Roach who send the 2012 or thereabouts tit team to hospital. Half the tits were either hit or ran for their lives. Thats the tactics Bim missed out in the early days. The frightening pace was there it wasnt used wisely in Sanford and early lickit. There is a pic of Tino bowling to an empty pitch the bastman was over by square leg ump taking guard. Jumpy youre a liar.
In reply to Castled
DJ and Pollard did not play that FC game. Bharath and Simmons got injured
..but we made 338, which was the highest total in any of the innings in the game. The second innings Fidel took five wickets. That was the difference. Not Tino, or roach or Chris Jordan who played in that game. The difference was Fidel who was very good and very fast when he got it right. Which goes back to what I said about pooran and Fidel.
The game Im talking about is the 2012 CT20.

I repeat again, Shai Hope is the best batsman in the Caribbean and its not even close.
In reply to Ray123
He should average more in tests. I am a big fan.
I think that the difference is that Shai is playing with the same intensity as he plays international cricket whereas for most of the others, this is just ho hum another T20 competition. Having said that, I admire a sportsman who takes every game seriously as Shai is now doing. I think/hope/pray that his head is now right for test cricket. He certainly deserves another opportunity and with the limited number of tests that we now play, he has to get this opportunity now.
Wicked ton dat
Not even close
Great knock dat. Gawn fi 106 from 44
In reply to Ray123
Dat is all.
In reply to Ray123
Pooran didnt score a hundred versus this same Royals motley crew.
Time for Shai to hit the IPL! A good to great t20 series against the English in December and he can make moves at the auction.
In reply to cumberland Time for Shai to star in WI ODIs & Tests!
Shai is redefining himself as a batsman.
I think he will snd should make a return in test but he needs not just jump back in. Do the preparation mentally and otherwise. He should succeed
In reply to Castled
I was never a fan of Fidel, I label him a net bowler, Tino with a little help, could had been better, he was just fast and wayward.
Kemar was smart enough to get the best out of his body.
H e is among the Barbados legends of great fast bowlers.
In reply to openning
fidel was poorly managed. barbados cricket loves yes men so they were never really comfortable with him. possibly has to do with the island having a very militarized colonial history. Fidel terrorized an SL attack containing mahela, sanath, hashan tilekaratne and sanga on debut.....in a series we probably would have lost had it not been for his contribution. ordinary bowlers don't do that.
In reply to Jumpstart
As I have been writing from the time he was selected, he is a net bowler.
A friendly pick.
In reply to Chrissy
first bajan batsman in thirty years to know where his offstump is

Like i said in the past he is the best batsman the wi have produced in a decade

Has shai hope scored a test century outside of Headingly? dude....the delusion with allyuh men bordering on hallucinations
[b]In reply to Jumpstart[/oh they are men averaging 50 in odi cricket in the caribbean with over 10 centuries .even though his test career is average all the test batsmen are average so is a wash too you need to stop hating and accept the facts
In reply to openning
You need to stop mistaking Fidel for Tino.
Small in stature but still continues to bowl faster than many of the young fast bowlers
in the WI. I would say injuries played a big part in his career.
A man with 12 5wicket hauls in 55 matches is a "net bowler"
Think him and Jerome Taylor had a good little run before their bodies gave in to the rigors
of fast bowling.
In reply to seaegg99i never saw anything in tino but pace no control did not swing or move the ball through the air or off the pitch
In reply to seaegg99
Tino earned his selection, Fidel was a friendly selection.
How many players you know make any international sports team, from providing practice sections to players?
As far as Tino is concern, I first knew his family connection from my third eldest sister, his great grandmother was the midwife to all of my mother eight children, my first three sisters are Carlyse Best , Louie and Dennis Tull first cousin.
So I know who Tino is.
BTW, there is a vast difference with the selection of Philo Wallace by Vivian Richards and the selection of Fidel Edwards by Brian Lara..
As Viv reminded Philo a few weeks ago on the Mason show, the ton he scored a ARG was all he wanted to see, how many balls had Fidel bowled and which 1st division team was he playing for, before selection?
In reply to openning
lara saw talent......which is why fidel's career went on much longer than tino's
In reply to Jumpstart
Not even professional scouts recommend anyone, the way Fidel was selected.
Lara had his close clique, they are all still close friends.
In reply to openning
You have two men one known one unknown The known got promoted in his organization but did not performed.
The other was introduced to the boss and vouched for by a friend. He then significantly outperform the promoted one
in the same position. What is the problem bro? Didn't 20yr old Samuels replaced the highly gifted but struggling Sars in
Oz in 2000 and performed better than Sars was doing on that tour? Let us think, think, think before posting.
Velo stop confusing ODI with tests. When was the last time Shai played FC cricket in The WI? Is that a criterion for being
selected to the test team? He should play, perform and get picked. I say they're still chinks in his test batting armor but they can be ironed out.
In reply to openning

dude you have issues yes. take brezerks advice nah. think before you post
In reply to Brerzerk
The performing fast bowler did was not selected, and quit the sport.
Tino Best was far away from being look at, at the time.
Jumpstart, The topic has been discussed previously, it is nothing new.

Check the Scoreboard out, it will tell you why fans like me, disliked the selection of Fidel Edwards.

you are the person arguing that Tino deserved a pick more than Fidel. Tino got his pick in the third test of the 2003 Fran Worrell trophy and was found to be totally unsuited for international cricket at that time. His action was all over the place and Hayden and gilchrist pulverized him. Fidel was clearly ready because he came and decimated an attack almost as good as the Aussie batsmen, the SL. Batsmen only a few weeks later
In reply to Jumpstart
I have never ever said such thing, I have always considered Tino to be fast and wayward.
As you can see from the scorecard, Tino was playing for Bim and taking wickets.
The player that did not get the opportunity and quite the sport was Jason Bennett.
In reply to openning
Tino got his chance and proved to be not ready for international cricket. If he had a poor attitude hed have been kicked out permanently because he looked awful during that first test versus the aussies. Fidel got a chance because Lara faced him in the nets and was very impressed by what he saw. Its similar to Waqar Younis who had only played 6 fc matches before Imran spotted him.not that Fidel would become a Waqar. That was up to him and the whims of his territorial board and the WICB. But Lara saw talent. And ordinary bowlers do not dismiss Sanath, Sanga and Mabela on debut. I am positive there were dudes doing better than whispering death in FC cricket who werent as talented and therefore didnt get pick when Mikey got picked. Sometimes players have a hunch and they go with that hunch

Not picking a dude because he had to earn his stripes is the same dotishness that kept Lara out of the team while keeping inferiors like Keith athurton around
In reply to Jumpstart
There is no correlation with a guy playing 6fc matches and maybe numerous local elite matches for his club to Fidel.
Was he playing BCA or BCL cricket?
I have heard his brother was playing for the West Indies.
Dude, are you telling the world that knew by facing him in the nets, he can tell how he would perform in his 2nd and 3 rd spells, and even on the 5th day?
I have been watching cricket and playing for almost 60 years, don't bring nonsense to me, because it is Lara.
I will never make any person a god, we all have flaws
In reply to openning
Does not need to be. Chris Jordan used to be a net bowler to Lara during the World Cup. So was Fidel. Proof is in the pudding. One bowler took 0-99 on debut, the other took 5-36
In reply to Jumpstart
I really don't care about Fidel's career performance, it should never happen again.
A performing youngster was robbed of a cricketing career.
In reply to openning

you and tino hadda be related
In reply to Jumpstart
Think dude.
Tino was playing for Barbados before the Net bowler was ever heard of, so why would I think Tino was rob of a career?

In reply to Chrissy
Test has no fielding restrictions, no restriction on bowling down the legside, and they set the field to save quick run!
Tino played in front Fidel because of FRENISM....if Lara didnt spot Fidel I doubt he would have ever started.
Capts Browne and Capts Wallace always favored Best and with the mainstay bowlers being Collins Collymore and Bradshaw, all Test bowlers...there was no room for Edwards
In reply to analyst-kid
Edwards played for Bim before Lara 'Columbus' him.
In reply to openning
Two seemingly opposing perspectives can be right at the same time. Bennett should have played for Barbados and ultimately WI. But the same reason he was not playing for Bds may the same reason that Fidel was overlooked. Barbados cricket has too much of a wait-your-turn civil service-type culture.
In reply to tc1
homie.....fidel had only played one game for barbados before lara picked him
I believe Bennett quit the cricket because of chronic injury sustained from being overbowled by CCC.....a product of being by far their best bowler and something that would not have happened if he were in a stronger bowling unit like Bim's.
Its not Lara's fault Bennett did not get his chance. That lies squarely at the Barbados selectors.

In reply to Jumpstart
can you tell us about the great tits cricket, instead of Bim's,
by the way, Lara did not discover Castro, he played 1st div. cricket was Spartan, was invited to trial, performed well, and made the squad for Bim as a 20-year-old before he was selected by Bim to bowl at Lara in the nets.
You must remember that Castro never played youth cricket, but made the team on his raw speed.
In reply to tc1
Remember he got dropped after his first game because he was wild down the legside and no balls.
Kid 20 years and they didn't think he would be nervous. Lara got a taste of his pace and that was it.
He did represent Bim first though so Lara got him into the WI team yes but Bim saw this also.
In reply to Logic
Did CCC not announce a squad before any of the other teams?
I believe RTN played for CCC also, that team won also won a number of tournaments in the Elite/1st division competition.
Conde was happy, because he had two bites of the cherry, 5-6 Bajans playing for CCC and a regional team.
In reply to seaegg99
you are so right, many times he bowled 9 overs for 99 runs or 6/36 in div1.
In reply to tc1
One of the very few where talent was harnessed and developed. His small stature, like J Thomas, were two of the very few instances of player development.
We have the talent but harnessing it is such a problem. Right now they are 4 or 5 potentially top class young batsmen in the region. Hopefully, we get to see them develop.
Congratulations Guyana. Well play Hope!
In reply to Ray123 Yes sah...well played.
Best by far....
