To St. Lucia for winning the Windward islands ODI cricket championships and to the Windies women for an amazing victory over the Australian team in scoring 212 runs to win this second I match. This of course we all know is a record - the first time a team has scored so many runs to win a T20i in the history of the game.
Can the girls put on another stupendous performance in the final T20I? Let's give the girls all the support possible and pray that the other batters will come to the party cuz Hayley and Stephanie will not score heavily each time. In fact, the law of averages is not in Hayley's favour for the next match - the final of the series.
As regards St.Lucia's performance, it was a dream performance throughout the Tourney, winning all their matches convincingly including the finals against Grenada, downing the Spice boys by 6 wickets. What stood out for St. Lucia as that in every match at least one of their big players stood out.
In the first match against Grenada, it was Shadrack Descartes, the St. Lucia Kings player who scored in excess of 140 no., in the match against Dominica, it was Melius who scored a solid and responsible 86, while in the finals vs Grenada, it was Akeem Auuguste's turn to score a hard hitting 80 to take his team over the line after Larry Edwards, a Windwards and former King's player, had taken a fifer.
With players like Melius, Auguste, Tarik Edward,(all of whom have played for Windies U-19 teams) Larry Edward, Shadrack Descartes, McKenny Clarke ( another King's player), this team was well balanced. And although it was without the services of Johnson Charles, one would say he wasn't missed.

I am looking forward to the day, when you can write of St. Lucia in a regional series.

At my age, dunno if I'll live to see that day

The Womwn's game was a T20I
In reply to Maispwi
Corrected. Thanks
Seriously the two victories are not comparable.
The West Indies women just broke a world record.
In reply to Chrissy
Agreed they were not comparable and were not
meant to be but they both deserve to be recognised, highlighted albeit one more than the other

Winning the Windward or Leewards tournament is 1980 stuff, having an Island from the Windwards winning a regional tournament, is progress.

Whilst growing up I recall St Lucia being dominant in sub regional sports ie OECS except cricket. There is a song one year celebrating the achievements.
It's notable that they've won at all age levels male and female.
But still, administratively it leaves a lot to be desired (ie cricket administration)

I remember that song and the period. Started in 1986 And you are correct. St. Lucia won in all disciplines except cricket. Most if not all of the activities were organised by the OECS when Reds Perreira was OECS Sports Coordinator.
The song spoke of St. Lucia being OECS Champions.

If thrusted 'at the deep end' I think we'd see these islands get on par with the so called larger territories.
I am wondering if we'd discovered Andre Fletcher had it not been for the Stanford T20. It may have been a long arduous process to get thru his local and after Windward Island cricket politics.
In St Lucia there are quite a few guys who I think are just as good as others who play regional cricket.
In reply to InHindsight
Andre Fletcher was in the WI u19 squad with Pollard and Powell in 2006 and may have gone to the Academy long before Standford.

I recall a number of years ago, Windwards were subdivided into two groups viz Windward North and South to participate in the regional competition but for some reason possibility cost, this was discontented after a year or two and it reverted back to one Windwards Team.
I think it's timely that this be revisited as a fist step to countries which meet a predetermined qualifying bar, being allowed to participate in the regional 4 day competition
