President calls out Defence Force Reserves, as crime crisis deepens
There will be more law enforcement boots on the ground as President Christine Kangaloo has called 100 Defence Force reserve officers to lend support to the police during the pre Christmas season to 2024 Carnival.
This move comes on the heels of this country recording eight murders in 24 hours.
Carnival is scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 so there will be heightened national security on the streets.
The President issued the proclamation dated October 30, 2023 stating that she has called members of the Volunteer Defence Force for a period of 123 days with effect from October 30, 2023 to February 29, 2024.

Thieves break into another mandir
A RELIGIOUS leader yesterday called on the police to follow up on their promise for heightened patrols around Hindu places of worship, after a D’Abadie Mandir was broken into between Sunday night and yesterday morning.During a news conference last week, police assured that areas of worship as well as religious sites will be patrolled more heavily after a structure was set on fire at the Tarouba Ramleela Ground on October 22.
Insp Michelle Lewis (Public Affairs) said the police would be “stepping up” patrols in these areas, especially during the Divali season, and the acts of vandalism were being investigated.
Police believe that, between Sunday night and yesterday, the intruders broke into the Maha Vishnu Mandir at Mausica Road, D’Abadie, and stole a case of bottled water, musical equipment, cash and a tank of gas.
lets see now : 6 mandirs breakin by thieves

PM says crime spree will not be tolerated,
President calls out volunteer soldiers
Shortly after eight people were killed in a 24-hour period, the Prime Minister said crime will not be tolerated and the President called out 100 soldiers to assist police during the pre-Christmas into Carnival period.
In a Facebook post, Dr Rowley said notwithstanding the persistent efforts of the various state machinery, the selection of violence as a way of life, the love affair and glamorisation of firearms and the wanton disregard for human life in TT has now gone beyond concerning to ridiculous.
His statement said, “This intractable situation now demands that the law-abiding citizens be given the right to their peace and safety above the freedom of the lawless and the violent few who operate with impunity.”
He added that the state would redouble its efforts to stop these “violent outbursts,” hunt down and disarm perpetrators and make operational adjustments so that the state security services can act with “despatch against the violent cohort of our national population.”
Rowley..you made the same speech new Year 2023 in January :the state would redouble its efforts
