Army Reserves called out to fight crime; PM: We will hunt and disarm perpetrators

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday announced that the State will redouble efforts and hunt down perpetrators of violence.
And President Christine Kangaloo has called out 100 members of the T&T Volunteer Defence Force to boost support for the T&T Police Service from October 30 until Carnival 2024.
Rowley’s terse warning and Kangaloo’s proclamation for more Defence Force assistance followed the recent spate of eight murders in 24 hours in Arima, Belmont and Diego Martin between Sunday and Monday night. Some 481 people have been murdered in T&T so far this year.

Rowley released a statement early yesterday notifying the public that Government was redoubling efforts to curtail acts of violence.
The Prime Minister said, “Notwithstanding the persistent efforts of the various state machinery, the selection of violence as a way of life, the love affair and glamourization of firearms and the wanton disregard for human life in Trinidad and Tobago has now gone beyond concerning to the ridiculous.
“This intractable situation now demands that the law-abiding citizens be given the right to their peace and safety above the freedom of the lawless and the violent few who operate with impunity.”

Rowley, who heads the National Security Council, warned, “The current violent crime spree will not be tolerated. The State will redouble all efforts to curtail these violent outbursts, will hunt down and disarm the perpetrators and will make operational adjustments so that the state security services can act with dispatch against the violent cohort of our national population.”

The last time he said such in January '23 ...murders doubled

Rowley meets with TTPS, army heads

Hours after saying the State will redouble all efforts in addressing crime, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley met with members of his Government and the heads of the T&T Police Service and T&T Defence Force.

However, following the meeting, the Prime Minister refused to give an explanation about how exactly the State intended to do so or clarify what the redoubling of efforts would mean for citizens.
Contacted by phone, Rowley at first said he was busy, but when pressed for clarity Rowley said, “There is nothing to clarify.”

Around 8 am yesterday, Rowley, in a Facebook post, said, “The State will redouble all efforts to curtail these violent outbursts, will hunt down and disarm the perpetrators and will make operational adjustments so that the state security services can act with dispatch against the violent cohort of our national population.”

A clueless PM after 8 years and over 4000 murders...evil

In TnT, is it legal for the military to fight crime? I thought only the police/investigation arm of the government can do that.

CoP welcomes TTDF help: Looking forward to significant results

Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher is looking forward to “significant results” from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force in patrolling the country during the Christmas and Carnival 2024 periods.

In a voice message sent to Guardian Media after President Christine Kangaloo’s proclamation yesterday calling out 100 Defence Force reserve officers, the CoP said the intention was “to sustain our relentless pursuit of the criminal element during this period as we seek to ensure the safety of all our citizens”.

Harewood-Christopher, welcoming the joint army police patrol initiative, said both entities had a history of collaboration.

She said divine intervention is needed ..scripture and prayers...it has failed to date

Business groups: Volunteer soldiers should’ve come sooner to combat crime

While business groups are happy that the 100 Volunteer Defence Force members have been called out by the President for 123 days, they believe this move should have come sooner to help combat the upsurge in crime.

Yesterday, the official proclamation from President Christine Kangaloo said the move is to strengthen the Defence Force’s capability to help police during the pre-Christmas season into Carnival 2024.

It came into effect on Monday and runs until February 29 next year.

Can one imagine how safe it is with these moron with guns patrolling the streets .They shoot themselves..sighshock

tuntun

what difference will 100 soldiers who are not trained in policing make to the current situation... the Ducta has said many times that he has provided all the resources necessary to the TTPigS..... so these toy soldiers will do what now? look at that picture... what is the two police doing standing and watching what?

Erla in Church praying...

We have a rasshole clueless toolum head as PM. One can do anything in T&T, a military is to fight wars ...not do police work..

What has this PM accomplished in 8 years....Prayer days and his cabinet is more stupid that he is...

When Kamla was in power she accomplished more in 4 years that what this idiot has. Posters on this site were critical of her.

Notice how the Guyanese President/ Barbados PM treat Rowley with disdain as if he is invisible.

Rowley bragged he is an expert at crushed Gravel?...evil

we gats scriptures and divine intervention soon to comfort us...ah cant wait...

You don’t get to use Kamla as a viable alternative or superior achiever.

Whatever hope they offered in terms of good governance quickly evaporated with the avalanche of corruption, commess and bobol.

Persad-Bissessar said, "Rowley attempts to appear tough but cannot continue putting a public relations plaster on a crime problem that requires holistic plans with measurable objectives."

She added, "The use of selective fake outrage for public relations will not lessen the violent crime crisis."

Nice!! lol

Rowley believes in Pray days and selective scripture readings.

He claimed to have killed PM Manning by obeah

Benny Hinn is reported to have said about Prime Minister Patrick Manning being the “most foolish man”
he has ever met. Hinn, whom I dubbed a fraud ever since I heard of him—and it matters not to me how
many millions of fools follow him—claimed that Manning introduced him to a woman described as a
“prophetess”, whatever that means.
