Awesome, and well-deserved too. Kudos to the Babu. Thought of him and the WI team when I was in Kanpur. I was wondering what the city looked like in 1958!
BTW honorariums do not use the title of Dr.
Yes, my bro Dukes must be on cloud nine. We haven't seen him lately???

I chaired a WC symposium with RBK and others in 2007 and was lucky enough to have met him way back when.
I have adored him since childhood.

I believe 2016. I remembered he and Gibbs were always close to the bar in most of the photos taken. lol

Brerzerk 2023-11-07 21:58:22

At least 40-50yrs late. JA should also bestow on him one of the highest honors that can be given to a non-national.

doosra 2023-11-07 22:37:16

In reply to Brerzerk

Meanwhile the big ones at the top still think red, green, and orange are more significant names than Kanhai, Lloyd, et al...

I have a sneaky feeling that the first international cricket ground in Guyana will be after a politician, not a cricketing hero. I maybe wrong but I have a hunch! lol

Rodney Marsh retold a story of how he, RBK, Kalli, and Lillee were all drinking at a pub before the infamous 1975 WC group match.

Marsh and Lillee told Kanhai that the Aussies were hoping that they get him out cheaply to which Kanhai told them "don't worry about me, worry about that little so and so (pointing to Kalli)". big grin

And sure enough, Kalli would go on to maul Lillee for 35 off one over during that match.

Players of that era would drink together at the pubs quite often - especially during county season.

I heard that story. Kalli said when he walked in to bat and saw Lille, he recalled the incident from the night before and played well enough to live up to Rohan's prediction. lol

Bro, Dr. Kanhai was practicing "medicines" long before he got the degree!!

Once he was inside the dressing room, Sobers told Kanhai that his stomach was ‘giving him hell’. “The only thing that’ll help me now is a port and brandy mixed,” was his self healing prescription. As Keith Boyce walked out to join Julien, the drink was prepared and he downed it in one gulp. Kanhai looked at him and called, “Bring him another brandy and port. But make it a big one this time.”

lollol
