Mikey is correct.
That was what we told them all a long time ago.
Our cricket is a victim of neo-liberalism as is every other sphere in our societies.

True.

Which is why WI should temper our expectations of what we can produce from WI cricket. Similar struggles facing Sri Lankan and Bangladesh cricket.

Don't overdo it, as he is not always on de spot.

e,g, see his interview re the Carie stumping of Bairstow.

Holding usually makes some good points,
but he is human.

No human is perfect.

there was a documentary called Death of a Gentleman, talking about the big three takeover of the sport. A segment of it was dedicated to the west indies. Tony Cozier said explicitly that even though people, fans say that cricket needs a strong west indies, that is not the view in the boardrooms. The BCCI cares solely about money, no matter how insular and segmented the sport becomes and the ECB and CA have no interest in seeing a strong west indies. Both boards, especially the TCCB(the precursor to the ECB) did all they could to stifle the success of the WI when we were on top. The entire push to get racist South Africa back into international cricket by those boards and their satelites(wisden, the cricketer etc)was because they felt Clive Rice and co were the only white side that could beat the WI. Allan Donald and Craig McDermott were Wisden cricketers of the year for 1992. I kid you not, Wisden actually thought this was appropriate to put in a magazine.

Arguably he is one of only two white bowlers, Australia’s Craig McDermott being the other, who could have forced his way into a full-strength West Indies side in 1991.

just showed where their heads were at

That being said, many of the wounds in WI cricket are largely self inflicted. from not wanting to pay players, restricting their movements so they cannot practice their trade in certain places at certain times of the year to picking second string teams. We saw it with dessie haynes in 1995,we saw it with BCL and the team in 1998, we saw it with the IPL players between 2009 and 2016.

Interesting. Maybe this can be articulated to motivate our program and players. You know we excel when we have a chip on our shoulders.

you actually have to have good players to do that. im not sure the current lot have the capacity to play at a high level. i could be wrong. personally i have no grouse with bcci. they're disorganized and greedy, but i don't think they actively want to see some teams fail. They subject cricket to market forces and the strong rise, the weak suffer, but that is simply a byproduct. I cannot say the same thing about the ECB and CA

I don't think the hierarchy of Cricket West Indies and their apologists are too keen on him either because he usually speaks unpalatable truths without fear nor favour.
