Our dominance in ‘76! How many great top orders or great batsmen hath WI produced since ‘76? How many fully reliable top orders that didn’t oft require rescue missions? Our bowling was the key? In ‘81 when Dujon confidently walked out to face his 1st ball in test cricket WI we’re about 50+ fuh 6 including nightwatchman’Craaf’ In that Game WI never reached 220 once! The art of batting kept dying slowly until… During our dominance you hardly saw top 6 consistently put up 450+ with all firing. I know if one gun is blazing the other just support but too often others would be walking back. What was our mantra? @ If wi mek 10 dem boi guh bowl dem out fi 9”

True what you say, but on the other hand, when we were producing Mas George, 3 Ws, Sobers, Kanhai, Hunte and Nurse, we really did not have a lot of world class bowlers for decades. That flipped around in the 70s to 90s when we had the Fearsome Foursome, Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh etc but very few outstanding batsmen. By 2010 +, we had neither one nor the other after the retirement of Chanders.

I’m glad somebody remembered this. The peak of the WI middle order was 1984. The only person who did not enjoy a stellar year( by his incomparable standards) was Viv. Haynes scored 950 runs at 43 in 1984 including 3 centuries. Greenidge scored 1179 runs at 57 including 4 hundreds. Larry Gomes scored 861 @ 61 with four hundreds. Which is why we steamrolled Australia twice and whitewashed England during that year. There was an interview that Transworld had with Wes Hall, who was manager during the Barbados test of the 1991 series of Australia’s visit here where he said exactly what you were saying. He said the middle order had not been sturdy for the past 5-6 years but the bowling attack was able to get us out of trouble. That was after the WI had been dismissed for 149 and the pacemen had mauled Australia for 134
