Why don't you take a sabbatical from the Rum Shop.
Tired of reading your nonsense.
In reply to TanteMerle
a bajan saying im writing nonsense.....
i'll take a sabbatical when the coral rock stops forcing mediocrity on us
In reply to Jumpstart
I actually try to take a sabbatical from reading your posts,
but your headline grabbed my attention.
How is the Kiwis massively overrated.
Let me know. I will read on.
In reply to TanteMerle
i does try to take a sabbatical from following all the rubbish bajan players around. but somehow they find themselves in WI teams.
In reply to TanteMerle
the kiwis lost 5 of their nine games. they were fortunate they came up against a totally demoralized SL lineup for their last game. had their game been after Pakistan's and had SL not come back from mailings from india and even bangladesh, they would not be here. England were piss poor for the majority of this world cup, so the first win was a reflection of how poor england were more than how good NZ were
In reply to Jumpstart
By the same token, the teams that didn't qualify were even more crap then too.
Never have VORs backing.....key takeaway..

You doth write a lot of rubbish. This is SPORTS what happened, happened. Serious sports critic dont talk in "if" and "had" terms as there is an inverse side to those words. What happened, happened. You and I have no way of knowing what would have transpired under different set of circumstances. When you engage in "if" and "had" talk it is usually from a self-interest perspective thus leaving yourself wide open to the opposing self-interest. Again, what happened, happened. Let me try to explain using your example:
"Had" NZ played SL first what would have happened? Had Australia lost 3 matches. Had Bangladesh won 4 more matches. Had a man's granny had balls she would be his grandpa.
In reply to WICFan
Exactly. The only team that made a marked improvement was Afghanistan and they lost at least two of their games( the one versus Aus and SA on inexperience). Honestly I can see Afghanistan making an ICC final in the very near future
In reply to JoeGrine
Hoss you are the dude who was arguing that Tendulkar was better than Lara because Bradman said so. Pre-school reasoning.
Can you expand on this NZ overrated story?
In reply to Jumpstart
Afghanistan fell victims to the format, if it was 2 groups of 6 or 7, they may have been in a position to progress to the knockout stage.
In reply to Jumpstart
you are as dumb as a 6-penny nail.
In reply to Jumpstart
NZ finished fourth among the best teams in the competition, what makes you think they are overrated?
In reply to Jumpstart
You are clearly drunk. I have never (until now) written the name "Tendulkar" in any post since I joined this message board. You need to put down the bottle.
In reply to tc1
Coming from a bajan, that means nothing

No problem. NZ has not won an ODI series outside of NZ since 2015 against major opposition. They’ve only beaten WI, Netherlands, Scotland, Zim, Pakistan(major opposition when they feel like it)and Ireland away from home in the last eight years. And the Pakistan result was reversed when they lost 4-1 this year. In addition to that, they’ve lost series to both India, South Africa and India at home. I’m sure we all remember the 2019 World Cup, NZ would have been out of the tournament like the WI had Brathwaite’s shot gone for six instead of the deep. They won the exact same amount of games they won during this World Cup, barely scraping into the knockouts. They’ve only won matches because other teams like Pakistan and especially SL and England have regressed so much. Compare this with teams like South Africa, who have beaten India in India, NZ in NZ and drawn series twice with the defending world champions England in England
In reply to WICFan
They would have gone to the knockouts if they had finished off South Africa and especially Australia. Just like when WI had Australia 80-5 in the 2019 World Cup, they had no right making 150 from 91-7. But they dropped Maxwell twice. And they took four early wickets versus SA defending a smallish total but didn’t finish the job
In reply to doosra
I want to know more also.
I have never heard NZ being pompous or beating their chest to prove how good they are, they were never considered part of the Big 4, so it is strange to hear a West Indian using overrated.
In reply to Jumpstart
You cannot reason in a straight line, then again when you're drunk.....
"had Brathwaite"....well it didn't end of story and the history books agree with me.
"barely scraping into the knockouts" - the idea is to get there not necessarily with style points. EXHIBIT 1982 Italy World Cup
"They've only won matches because other teams" - they won matches because they won. Ask Yogi Berra about that one.
Again, out down the bottle.
In reply to JoeGrine
Hence why Italy is not seen as one of the great world champions. 1982 was all about Brazil. To be a world champ, you have to be dominant. Nobody remembers that Germany in fact won the 1974 World Cup, they remember Total Football. And the vast majority of the times when a sputtering team comes up against a dominant team like India, 99.9% of the time, the dominant side will win. And as I said, NZ has been patchy since the 2015 World Cup, the stats show that. Another fun fact. Of the 4 semifinalits, NZ is the only one to concede 350+ runs against each of the remaining three. SA made 357 against them in the group stages, Australia made 388 and India made 399 today. Those are huge totals and you can’t win thinking you’re going to chase down a big target all the time especially when the attacks are as good as India’s , SA’s and Australia’s. They couldn’t even defend 400 versus Pakistan( yes I know DLS played a part but Pakistan were 200-1 after 20 overs. They were going to win that game irrespective of rain
In reply to Jumpstart
You do realise they lost a very close game against australia
Against Pakistan, they scored 400 and lost to a team that made 200. Had the match been a full 50 over game, I highly doubt Pakistan would have been able to pull it off
In reply to Jumpstart
Ten games. They came into the tournament rated 5th and made the semis.
In reply to openning
And that is probably why you like them and are willing to totally disregard facts.
In reply to openning
The 1980 tour of WI to NZ, ( the umpiring was deplorable), NZ boasted they were the best in the world. They beat WI 1 to 0 in the test series after WI destroyed Australia.
In reply to Overthrow
NZ had one great team in their history:2014-2016, Baz's team. They were great because of the brand they played, exemplified by McCullum himself. they won series but no major ICC tournaments. In spite of this they were a great side. They never had a great team before that or since. Totally overrated. I realize many West Indians don't really like stats but the numbers don't lie. Stats can be manipulated, like how SRT fans love to manipulate them to argue that tendulkar was better than lara(which is totally absurd), but they're hard things to go away
In reply to Overthrow
Was the West Indies #1 at the time?
In reply to openning
Yes....they were. WI were unofficially acknowledged as world champions after steamrolling australia at home. With the two Chappells, the Jeff Thomson and Lillee. I remember the NZ skipper admitting in an interview during a Mikey Holding documentary on Sky about three years ago, that the decisions were rubbish but said that no umpire in NZ had seen bowling that quick and that was the reason for the errors. I think that they were just incompetent, because Billy Bowden and Russell Watkin made terrible decisions on a regular basis twenty years later
In reply to Jumpstart
We all manipulate statistics to prove our points including you with Kohli.
In reply to openning
Perceived as #1, point system was not in use at the time.
In reply to Jumpstart
You may be right, and you support your point of view with stats, NZ always fight to the end. I admire their style of play.
In reply to JoeGrine
Ey if you want to say that a dude who 500+ runs versus the world's most feared bowler is not better than dude who never scored a hundred in SA, then be my guest.
