Her father graduated from from Lodge School in 1957 I think. Dr. Oscar Jordan ... who died from cancer about 6 or 7 years ago. He was a Barbados Scholar.
The closest I got to being a Barbados Scholar was when one of my teachers wrote in my report book that I could be a Barbados Scholar if I applied myself

Nice, Walco.
I have a story that could be considered similar.
We were given assignment to write composition/essay on the topic, "My Ambition". Being an a$$, I decided not to write anything.
When I was asked the whereabouts of my composition, I promptly responded that I couldn't write anything because I didn't have any ambition.

Thanks , and from all account you did that. I think Sandi was a Barbados Scholar that same year.

Your story reminds of a calypso song in Barbados about former Prime Minister Erskine Sandiford. The name of the song and its chorus were "These are the good things that Sandi did." The calypsonian would start the song by saying "These are the good things that Sandi did" and then stand silent on stage while the music played. He would repeat "These are the good things that Sandi did" each time it was time for the chorus and then stand silent again. This was repeated about 3 or 4 times until the song ended.
Apparently this calypsonian did not think Sandi did any good things as Prime Minister

So happy that you appreciated my story.
A little more on it ...
After that incident every time I met up with the teacher, Mrs. Reid, she asked, "Yuh get ambition yet?".
