I think his chest guard slipped out of position as he was walking out to bat and he didn't bother to reposition it...

Then again, it might very well have been the CoCopad slipping up into position.

On a serious note, despite his obvious talent, Hety's underachievement is primarily due to flaws in his technique which were not corrected/addressed during the crucial developmental phase of his career. First, when you look at his defense against spin, it lacks the sureness of his left handed peers from Berbice in the 1960's and 70's; who mostly played the longer version of the game in possibly the best first division competition in the country. With the demise of the sugar industry these facilities were neglected and the quality of the 3 day competition went downhill. As a matter of fact the Rose Hall Welfare Center ground, where he should have been playing, because he grew up in Canefield settlement, became a cow pasture and that team, which produced the likes of Baichan and Pydana, became non-existent until recently. Hety had to play his cricket with the Cumberland team which used a ground that was at best a second division ground. Second, his early introduction to T20 cricket further impaired his development. For example, see how he loses shape whenever he attempts to hit over long on. Both Fredericks and Kalli were about his physical stature, yet I cannot recall either of them losing shape when hitting a six because their timing was impeccable, timing they developed in their youth playing the longer version of the game.

!!! Great

Can’t disagree with anything you say! I will like to add that various rule changes and the advent of protective helmets have only contributed to the loss of proper approach, technique and discipline required to excel at the highest level!
Haven’t seen much videos of Fredericks, but the little I have seen of Kalli he tends to get on top of the ball when hooking or pulling whereas Hetmyer more often than not hits with an open face rather than a closed face or rolling of the wrist to keep the ball down!
Great analysis by Medusa. Hety's loss of shape and dependence on hitting aerial shots to the legside means that he may be a well paid but is not a well skilled cricketer.

I beg to differ! He is skilled, but got lazy and doesn’t seem interested in putting in the hard to hone his skills!

I, massively, concur!
