Going to help, or hinder his international career?
I fear it may well be the latter despite his success today.
In addition to being the best batsman on the team, he’s also easily one of their best fielders.
It MAY be beneficial for THIS team to have him open in this series, but he really is a 3,4,5 bat.
Hopefully this move doesn’t mess him up.

Is putting Athanaze to open
In reply to imusic
Good observation. For now 3-4 but ultimately he may be able to do anything

Athanaze opening batting in the limited overs version since youth cricket... So why will it hinder his international career?
In reply to imusic
Best batters opened......Lara opened, then subsequently moved down... Tendulkar....Sehwag.... Athanaze should be happy to open....can bat for long period....built innings...
In reply to imusic
Athanaze can bat anywhere he chooses as far as I’m concerned! The guy is that good, probably the best in the entire Caribbean!
In reply to anthonyp
It won't. Typical west Indian thinking to change the one thing that seems to be working
He opens in list-a so I don't see why it would hinder him to open for West Indies.
He needs to be more selective with that sweepshot it seems to bring his downfall alot
Happy to see him do well.
The only thing left to fear is CWI.

Did any of those you mentioned open the innings in the very early part of their international careers?
In reply to imusic
Lara did
Sehwag too
In reply to brians_da_best
Sehwag was an opener his entire career dude.
Lara first opened for WI in his 18th ODI…..nearly 2 years after his debut in the format
In reply to imusic
Well you asked a question, and I replied.
18 ganes for lara is pretty early on only
Sehwag opened from game 1 until his last game
Athanaze is opening in domeatic cricket, so it isn't that he's batting our of place
Shiv opened for quite some time too
and i think it made his overall game better
In reply to imusic
So Athanaze is new to opening? De youth opening batting for WWI since youth level.
In reply to anthonyp
Exactly, and he's done pretty well, sk I'm surprised at the LP question.
Maybe he wants to make a case for the 33 yr old reserve opener to play the next game
In reply to imusic
me tinks a trini did some thing to this individual brians_da_best, his constant belittling and negativity is not healthy.
In reply to sgtdjones
Huh
What does athanaze doing well have anything to do with belittling anyone
I am speaking of your belittling Trini players?
Have you played cricket that can match their skills?
In reply to sgtdjones
Not belittling anyone.
I just don't like the entitlement of Darren bravo and when he made a public announcement to go on a break, that was the last straw.
What has the man achieved in his cricketing life that can justify this behaviour and feeling of entitlement
For the record. Lara is my favorite player and probably the greatest to ever hold the bat, in my view . Trinidad has produced some good players ovet the years. Darren bravo isn't one of them
In reply to imusic
Is he the best bat in the team?seriously.
In reply to tc1
He really said that this is why I can't take some of the posters seriously. It don't make sense arguing with them.
In reply to Ray123
I can't help feel sudden is who got ppl drawing swords fuh Bajans
In reply to Ray123
The musicman is predictable
In reply to tc1
Now you getting the point of the post
In reply to Baje
musicman is Openning homie
i am very comfortable with Athas opening. In limited overs, you need to give your better batsmen as many overs as possible. if it is arguable that Athas may be the second best currently after Hope, then opening and the possibility of facing more overs is the best move for him so that he can move through his gears without being under undue pressure. i think that King and Athas are possibly the best combination right now for us as i get the impression that they can feed off one another dare I say it! like a Greenidge and Haynes
In reply to tc1
Yup. But I think I prefer how Jumpy and Barry wear their objection to all things bajan on their sleeves. No hiding it. Musicman likes to give you a song and dance and occasionally deflect with some faint praise to throw people off the scent.
