Jamaica’s reluctance to make a bid to commit to hosting matches in the upcoming T20 World Cup should be a cause for concern for Cricket West Indies especially with the emergence of the USA which is establishing itself as a viable destination for games in the future.

The West Indies and the USA will co-host the T20 World Cup from June 1-29, with the Sates set to play host to 16 of the tournament’s 55 matches.

Former West Indies director Baldath Mahabir has warned that the Caribbean’s northern neighbours could possibly host an international event on their own in the future while former West Indies manager Omar Khan described the situation with Jamaica not hosting any matches in the World Cup as “definitely concerning”.

“Jamaica are a major part of CWI and I am sure fans would love to see cricket played at Sabina Park,” Khan told the Express yesterday. “CWI needs to sit with the government officials in Jamaica and have a face-to-face meeting to find out what can be done to safeguard the game.”

Jamaica destroyed the West Indies Federation back in the 1950s. If allowed, Jamaica will destroy West Indies cricket in the 2000s. Talk about cantankerous!

In reply to rhatid Don't know anything about the Federation but will comment on the cricket, Jamaica was essential in the hosting of the 2007 WC, spent about US$30 million on stadiums, since then people elsewhere have built or improved their facilities. Now there is probably an overabundance of venues, CWI said places are to bid for tour games. When Cameron was VP and he had a meeting with the Jamaican PM, she asked why no games were been scheduled in Jamaica, he said there is a committee that does that and does not even know who is on the committee.
When we were been excluded from CPL games, they said there were no lights at Sabina, the North Stand was built and lights installed, bottom line is we are not getting value for money invested in cricket.

Federation was a ruse by the British Colonial Office to shed responsibilities to the various Islands by
grouping them as One for easier governance and to cut costs. The empire(Britain) was broke after WW 2
and rationing was in force even to the mid 50s. A conference in Montego Bay in 1948 reached agreement that
a Federation would come into being within 10 years..hence it came on stream in 1958.

But as far as Jamaica was concerned and Bustamante in particular the devil was in the details where financing
was concerned. Jamaica would be burdened with near;y 60 per cent of the costs but would have no greater
say than islands that were less in size that its second smallest Parish Hanover.
This after the British established two Political Parties with Busta and Manley as Heads. Manley's Party won
throughout the West Indies but lost heavily in Jamaica.
Busta pursued Separation and Manley was forced to call a Referendum which he lost...as Jamaicans were asked to
vote yes or no. 'NO' won bigly and we left the 10 country clan and Eric Williams of Trinidad said 'one from Ton, leaves Zero
so he followed Jamaica, leaving Barbados to try and sustain it. They couldn't as Jamaica and Trinidad pursued Nationhood,
both achieving such in August 1962.
This hurt Manley badly and he committed cardinal error by calling General election long before it was due, and Busta's JLP
trounced the PNP and led Jamaica into Independence, something that Manley and his PNP were advocating from its
founding in 1938 when Busta was was even a member of the PNP.
I daresay that had Manley''s PNP led the country into Independence ,Jamaica would have been a different and better
country today as the PNP had begun to steer Jamaica in a transformative way from Colonialism through Education, social,
agricultural and housing exapnsion . He himself refused to be honoured by the British while Busta gladly regaled himself
with the 'Sir'

At the 1948 Conference, it was decided that the Capital of the Federation would be located in the Islands as they were
close together and Port of Spain became such while Barbados if memory serves provided the Prime Minister and Governor General.
That in a nutshell is that...I have heard so much crap about the history and virtues ,mainly from folks who were not even thought of
much less born that it is painful to see ignorance so healthy.
One such is that Jamaica was vexed at not getting the Capital. That was never on the agenda.
The colonial mindset, spoken of mainly by Jamaicans as Mental slavery is still strong.
Why we later join up with Caricom (carigo)go and such and as a country fail to hear the people's voice through referendum on
certain matters is utmost disrespect to the Jamaican people. And so the beat goes on.
I would however never be caught with a Jamaican passport proclaims my country as part of a community of Caricom.
We never gain independence from the Colonial masters to be colonized again by any other country.
Personally I am shamed by this. We must be totally unaligned and make our Brand speak to the World by ourselves.
But since I don't live there and will not wake up as a West Indian as we did in 58, I don't much care.
Those who relish being Caricomer can knock themselves out.
Now i see a post that Jamaica is trying to mash up WI cricket because it is not pumping Money into a the Colonial Construct
of which it has no power. If WI mash up it won't be because Jamaica would have withdrawn its resources or even
expertise, but it would be because those who are left are not capable of keeping it and making it work.
If it is worth having then put your shoulders to the wheel and your bank account to the good.

Pretty good history lesson. But isn't it ironic that Jamaica mashed up the Federation on grounds that the other territories would depend on her. But look at where we are today. Jamaica is the most impoverished of all the former Federation members and would be glad to get a handout from them! Talk about poetic justice!

Seems Jamaica was right, if the Federation was viable, necessary and carefully put together, it would be much more needed after the withdrawal of Jamaica, instead the others disbanded.

It only proved that we were united under the colonial master, but when he is no longer in charge, we become a fragmented people.

The federation was okay for Barbados premier Grantley Adams, but not so for the opposition led by Errol Barrow, his goal was to move away from agriculture, provide every child on the island with free education, and pursue independence.
