A very pleasant surprise to rhatid. The best I was expecting from the team was for them to do their best which I expected to be short of good enough. For them to better Australia in their backyard is huge indeed.

The Gabba has been Australia's stronghold and best venue. This maybe their second loss there in over 20 years
if memory serves.

This is a team without any star players, to win against the #1 team in the world, is an achievement.
Congrats, Congrats.

I am the happiest man in the world, I knew something special was coming once a group of lambs dared to believe, the world will remember forever the day a powerful Australian test side under estimated an under strength West Indies test side, Pat Cummins must be smarting after the stupid disrespectful declaration……

Well done WI. Hope they keep these young guys together and keep them motivated.

Hendra 2024-01-28 12:22:28

Congrats Guys.
Somehow I felt something special would have happened and having fallen asleep during the Oz vs SA female match ( which allowed me to charge my battery) I stayed up to wash every ball in this gripping match. In any event, with such excitement , it's no way I would have fallen asleep!!.

What a match!!! And all this nonsense that Test cricket is dying. No ODI or T20i match can put one's emotions thru a roller coaster like this match did.

voiceofreason 2024-01-28 12:25:35

Last time we won in Australia 26 plus years.

What made this sweeter is that there was zero expectation of us winning.

Poggy 2024-01-28 12:27:09

Indeed

Drapsey 2024-01-28 12:27:22

Great victory!

cricketmad 2024-01-28 13:30:15

We need good fast bowlers to win consistently. Our cricket administration must focus more on producing world class fast bowlers.

jacksprat 2024-01-28 13:32:56

I must admit that this came as a total surprise to me I was giving them credit for scoring a moral victory by just taking the game into the 4th day.

This was far beyond my wildest dream, given the makeup of the time an playing the premier team in cricket. Guess that why they actually play the game.

This game is not played on paper! Kudos to the team!

This WI team has similar attributes, and must be congratulated for their outstanding performance, which no one ever expected. They have won many hearts over, including the Australian team and public in similar vein to that team of 1960-61 led by Frank Worrell. Congratulations!

the Australian team and public

Kudos to the Australian team /public. The Aussie team displayed uncharacteristic good
manners throughout , no obvious sledging /gamesmanship on display . The Crowd supported
the lads throughout ...good sportsmanship was on display and the Aussies concentrated on just
playing their normal hard cricket.

Perhaps it was in recognition that this was a team of "lambs" expected to be easily trampled, run over.
A competitive series was desired for the business end of things TV advertisers , crowds etc.

This is not to take away from the performance of the lads by any means ...they rose to the occasion and
played unrestrained cricket . The second innings Aussie take down was similar to that never say die attitude of
our gladiators past. smile

The ball is firmly in in CWI's court (again!)

Hopefully , someone , somewhere is doing forward planning to keep this team and momentum going.

Nice read

Only the most cloth-eared cricket fan will have failed to hear the ominous cacophony surrounding Test cricket over the past month. First up, the clanging chimes of Jason Holder: “If we continue in this manner, Test cricket will die.” The former West Indies captain lamented last week from the sidelines of the ILT20 in the UAE at the very same time some of his fellow countrymen are duking it out against Australia in the current two-Test series.

Players aren’t the only ones sounding the alarm. The Marylebone Cricket Club has announced its plans for a cricket symposium to discuss the myriad challenges facing the global game. For some, the sound of the guillotine being raised above Test cricket’s head is drowned out only by the hollow clack-clacking of the ICC’s empty knitting needles at the side of the blade.
