Shamar Joseph speed..

Speed100 2024-01-28 15:39:46

I notice notice he crank it up in the 2nd inning , mid 140’s and it really cause the Aussie trouble . This should be a lesson to our curator and WICB.

Prepare what we are good with. If we can’t find good spinner on spinning wicket we can produce fast bowler on fast bouncy wicket.

The way he attacks with accuracy from around the wicket. Last bowler we had who done it so lethal in my eyes was Malcom Marshall.

Many years ago, Holding had an 8-fer in England on a dead pitch, I heard the commentators were saying that he was so hostile that even in the commentary box they were feeling the heat.

anthonyp 2024-01-28 15:48:27

Was consistently hitting speed above 145kph!

42.2 Shamar Joseph to Smith, 1 run
Banged in short outside off at 149.6kph and Smith cuts it away to deep point

Serious gas that... Keep going Shamarrazz

Yea. I remember that. Still a west Indian record from 1976. But my gosh Shamar is super sharp he beats batters through the air with sheer speed. Similar like Holding.

Generating that level of pace

In the past 20 years, are Fidel Edwards, Roach, Gabriel, Alzari and Thomas the only bowlers we've had that could bowl 145kph? I might be wrong, but I don't recall any of them sustaining 145-150kph over such a long spell like he did today. This guy has the heart of a champion.

10 overs on the trot wit a sore foot. His top speed remained constantly.I couldn't see any of our greats doing that, probably Courtney Walsh.

I don't recall Walsh being that fast, but I didn't see him in his younger days.

Walsh threw the occasional delivery at 140-145 kmh.

He could bowl very long spells but would average around 130-135 kmh

I remember Walsh bowling a 10 over spell to England at Sabina Park. He wanted to take out Michael Atherton and wouldn't be denied on that day. Top speed throughout but young Walsh was super fit then and wasn't carrying any type of injury.
This S. joseph spell was with a damn sore foot. Exceptionally outstanding.

Fitness is the key . The energy he showed in every delivery I just Feel like something will happen every time.

He also look very strong and has a good diet I’m assuming. Growing up in remote areas brings out
Strong and fit people. I hope he continue to grow and even get faster..

Yep, the exceptional fitness was evident. It's one thing to develop that after years of cricket, but to come into your first match with it having played a handful of FC matches?! Unheard of. Gabriel could get up there, but he was always sucking wind after one or two overs.

The very first Test match Gabriel played he went out with a back injury, from there on he was constantly injured, IMO because of his action, Joseph action is easy looking and not stressful on his body. Hopefully he does not play too much T20 cricket very early in his career, but I am sure his agent will tell him otherwise

It isn’t just speed through the air though…his standout asset is skid & zip off the pitch… it effectively makes him a yard faster than he already is.

doosra 2024-01-28 18:29:06

In reply to robbo

the skid with a bit of nip both ways is priceless

and then he can surprise you with the one like he did Steve Smith

In reply to doosra

It’s makes all the difference… even when his hand release speed is ‘only’ 136-138 k’s he is still quick (if you know what I mean)… he still gives the batsman the hurry up… I didnt realise he could touch the 150 mark… just goes to show what adrenaline can do.

Ha… think I confused you… I should have quoted Raggs post re Holding at the Oval 1976.I was at that match.

Seriously wish I was at the Gabba though

Just watched the extended highlights that I recorded earlier. Bearing in mind, he was carrying an injury and bowled virtually 12 overs on the trot his fastest overs were his last three or four. He really was steaming in and had all the batsmen hopping about and very looking uncomfortable. Fantastic to see.
