was himself an institution. RIP.

Nice man - one of his daughters once lived close by me so I got to know them well.

Great radio personality. RIP.
Walk Good Alan, thanks for the memories. His Mom was an institution @ Vaz prep too. Was it she who started it?
RIP Mr. Flying Machine.
Back in my "country", we had a likkle transistor radio and through that I grew up listening to Magnus in the morning. Calypso corner every morning, I forgot the time, but I was always listening. Favorite memory was Magnus reporting on Thomson running up to the wicket to bowl to Roy Fredericks at 100 mph and Fredericks hooking him for 6 on his way to 169. Magnus, always joyful and lots of chuckle. And who can forget his act leading to the suspension
Lots of love for people who do what they do and do it for a long time with joy.
Nuff respek Mr. Magnus and RIP.
6:55sm Calypso corner?
As a youth coming in to my own I got the opportunity to work with the man, Magnus and wife, Kerry!
May his soul rest in peace!

yes Sir 5 to seven ,I would be waiting for a Mighty Sparrow tune!
In reply to Brerzerk
Yes 6:55 was calypso corner. I think 6:45 was oldies but goodies and 7:15 was road beat. My radio never left rjr in the morning

In reply to Drapsey
I think at 6:15 he also played a record that had gone gold in terms of sales. He was an institution . Calypso corner was the best
Sweet,sweet memories

A deputy essential. That’s the kind of stuff he would drop on calypso corner
"Dan is the in van"

Wow. Another fabulous guy bids goodbye.
Thanks Alan for some wonderful days on the radio that made our days worthwhile.
You will never be forgotten and sharing the same departure date Feb 3 as my Dad will always
evoke wonderful lovely memories of you.
RIP ,Good man.

When that came on, it was the signal that unless i was then going through the door, i would be late for school.
I remember Allan Magnus and Marie Garth, Neville Willoughby on "
Nighline", Errol Thompson on Saturday mornings and Dermott Hussey with "Progressions" on the FM dial on Friday nights.
These radio voices were the soundtrack to my childhood but most of them seem to have made/are making their transition.

Indeed, "Calypso Corner" was the signal to head off to school.
RIP mi naybor!
I got the weather time signal in the GMS back then, not sure it's still there - 'twas a first and I was a newbie!

Nice feeling growing up, listening to those guys, and then get the opportunity to see and work with some of them - Barry G, Magnus, Helen Coley, et al.
Re Flying Machine Alan always mentioned Hux Brown. I n the heart of Covid 2020 The Great Hux died here in Oakland/Emeryville
So, Teddy took off to the great beyond in his flying machine, I see. Good journey, man, and RIP.

Is the radio audience still as large as when we were growing up, I know is has splintered, but are the total numbers up there?
In reply to FanAttick
I worked with Alan when I presented sports news on his show in the mid-1990s. He was a great guy for someone like me, who was new to radio presenting, to work with. He didn't have that overbearing ego that some of the other radio personalities had.
RIP
In reply to mikesiva
So true - he was as real as it gets - very comfortable in his own skin.
In reply to mikesiva
I found the RJR crew then quite laid back. "Baby Henry", Tino, Neville Willo, all great guys. In sports, yourself, Lance, "Sarge" ditto!

Nighline"[/b], Errol Thompson on Saturday mornings and Dermott Hussey with "Progressions" on the FM dial on Friday nights.
Was Neville Willoughby on Nightline or Pipeline?
In reply to FanAttick
Pipeline. You are correct. Nightline was Ted Koppel on American TV

R.I.P. Allan, thanks for the memories, thanks for waking me and bringing me along to school each morning.

Neville was a real progressive even from the early days he had zero prejudice for dem 'Rasta Bway' Did two seminal interviews I listened to live one with Bob and another with Peter
Bob's Interview-'So Bob how did you guys get started' Bob-Guys? 'er you boys' Bways whe' yuh ah seh Neville?' Oh how did Man n Man...' 'Wi started out crying yunnuh?'
Neville's last interview with Peter (Was it Dermot Hussey?) - 'So Peter I heard you played to over 100,000 in Italy and even got the keys to Rome'
'Yeh man just like in the days of old when St. Peter went to Rome so did Peter Tosh but I got the keys twice suh I have both front and back door so dem neva crucify I'
'Do you ever see you Bob and Bunny ever performing together again?' It would be di greatis ting to I n I'
