Not sure why we underperformed other than lack of WICBC management to properly develop the players, and a poor first class structure. But this team destroyed one of, if not the strongest South African team of all time- The link below shows the full score card. Look at this team, full of talent.WI Demolished Saffies w/ Smith, Kallis, Steyn, Amla, AB,Boucher

WI always have talent but unfortunately in International Cricket Talent alone doesn’t work you need proper governance along with application with neither our board or players have realized as yet!!!

Correct, it is up to management to bring the talent to the game, it is why management exists.

Look at that team, and look at the Saffies, it was a seriously very powerful SA team in their home conditions.

Not necessarily, Stats then what do they say? Last test Gayle was out injured finger broken by Steyn 1st inning of 2nd test if I'm not wrong, I think Taylor had been injured forcing Bravo to bowl unchanged for a whole session between lunch and tea.The less penetrative Sammy replaced him. I'm not looking at the scoreboard and don't remember the details of the series. You see flash in the pan someone else may see depleted team. Were the creditable performances in NZ and Oz also flashes...the at home win vs. Poms in a 5 well four test series?

No, not flash in the pan- they had real talent and we know it because the passage of time has confirmed it. This post is about why such a core group of talented players (not just that 11 players on that team, but others who had talent in that period) were not provided with the managerial leadership and all that it entails-which would have allowed them to compete with and be among the best.

even winning a test in SA, against that team, was phenomenal. SA only lost series to Australia between 2008 and 2017. That side had Dale Steyn, by then the best fast bowler in the world, morne morkel, an enforcer par excellence, makhaya ntini, who was still world class, and had caused the WI all sorts of problems in the previous seven years, starting with SA's 2001 visit, and shaun pollock, who was an all time great. no shame losing to a team like that. not to mention AB, kallis(i say this begrudgingly), smith, hashim amla(averaging well over 50) among others. the only trash player on that team was paul harris.

they only bajan on the team was fidel.....who didn't fit in into the afro saxon addiction barbados cricket can't seem to shake since the retirement of dessie. that side was the first team from the WI to not lose in NZ in 13 year(1995-200cool, first WI team to win a test in South Africa, first team to win a series versus England in 11 years(1998-2009), a team that still contained stars from the 2005 ashes triumph. That team was excellent. And they were getting better before the three headed monster from St Lucia and the ugly man brought the tourism style of management to a WI cricket

I need a flashlight to find the talent you speak of. Without a flashlight I can see:

Gayle
Chanderpaul
Samuels - enigmatic.
Taylor - never healthy
Edwards - spotty at best.

Where is the talent of which you speak?

Sarwan didn't score a match winning test hundred versus Murali at QPO in 2008? Adrian Bharath didn't score the first hundred by a WI player at the Gabba since Carl Hooper more than a decade earlier? Dwayne bravo didn't score a hundred and 80+ on the 2009 winter tour of Australia before being forced out of test cricket and becoming the greatest allrounder in the t20 format? this is why the federation couldn't work. too many west indians are willing to spread misinformation or conveniently ignore facts to suit their own agendas

Bravo - TEST cricket
Barath - played how many Tests? Since you mentioned him, care to mention his (23.46) Test average? Looks like you are the one " to spread misinformation or conveniently ignore facts to suit their own agendas"

Where is the Talent laden?

Some decent cricketers, yes, talent laden...NO!

TALENT =special natural ability (Ganga, Darren Powell, Barath, Sammy)
LADEN =heavily loaded or weighed down

What's your agenda Jumpy?

You do not need a "flashlight", you need much much more.. perhaps a medicine to erase arrogance and dotishness from your mind.

Without a flashlight I can see:

Don't blame a lack of "flashlight," that cannot help you to see because your eyes are covered in stupidity and duttyness.

Here on, you and anyone who question that Bravo and others in that era as having no talent, then I won't engage you and I urge all decent posters to do the same.

Now, get you arse out of my post.

In an 11 man team YOU posted (Gayle, Chanderpaul) fine; I noticed your retort only include Bravo. Show me the talent laden.............

WI has not had a talent laden team in eons.

I tell you what, how about you give me a flashlight and I give you a dictionary?

Now, get you arse out of my post.

Well you need to learn how to process thing. Just the same welcome to my side of the fence.

The post you are defending showed a team with Darren Powell and Darren Sammy. It is this allegedly "talented" team that I am taking Emir to task about. Reading is fundamental my friend. I was being cynical towards the original post.

You not taking me seriously is immaterial to my today and quite possibly my tomorrow. Try another angle. In the meantime a team showing 2 world class players and an enigmatic Samuels and a hot/cold Bravo cannot be classed as world class and at no time between 2006-2008 did we have 6 (a majority) or even 5 world class talent on the field simultaneously.

powell and sammy weren't regulars......sammy was put there as competition for bravo .....ironically while a st lucian was at the head of WI cricket and i strongly suspect that was the reason why because he was NEVER a test standard player(and narsingh deonarine was much more talented than sammy in both batting and bowling)

The core of gayle's team were gayle and sarwan, tiger, DJ bravo, fidel, jerome taylor and denesh ramdin. Brendan nash came in 2009 and scored a hundred in the final test vs england at the Oval(I was there)and fast kemar roach came on the 2009 visit to australia, a series we could have won if not for billy bowden's errors, although he wasn't the only one

Apparently sarwan was crap right?
