Totals are on the up, so it seems...

After the first three rounds of the WI Championship, the list below shows how each team has performed with the bat.

T&T 215/4 (abandoned game vs Guyana), 329 & 60/4 (vs WI Academy), 137 & 342 (vs Leewards) AVG SCORE 285

GUYANA 188 & 186 (vs Leewards), 175 & 415/7dec (vs WI Academy) AVG SCORE 260

WI ACADEMY 177 & 195/5 (vs Leewards), 163 & 224 (vs T&T), 162 & 207 (vs Guyana) AVG SCORE 205

LEEWARDS 137 & 232 (vs WI Academy), 352 & 295 (vs Guyana), 318 & 165/6 (vs T&T) AVG SCORE 267

CCC 185 & 193 (vs Barbados), 307 & 87 (vs Jamaica), 204 & 315 (vs Windwards) AVG SCORE 215

BARBADOS 344/8dec & 35/1 (vs CCC), 214 & 126 (vs Windwards), 389 & 176/6 (vs Jamaica) AVG SCORE 285

WINDWARDS 345 & 55/1 (vs Jamaica), 325 & 18/1 (vs Barbados), 395 & 128/2 (vs CCC) AVG SCORE 372

JAMAICA 159 & 234 (vs Windwards), 331 & 69/0 (vs CCC), 269 & 292 (vs Barbados) AVG SCORE 270

After the first three rounds, Windwards batting is by far and away the standout with an average total of 372. CCC & WI Academy are, somewhat understandably, the lowest with average totals just above 200 whilst all remaining teams are between 260-285.

The highest team total posted so far is the 415/7 dec by Guyana against the WI Academy XI. Windwards have past 325 in each of their completed innings to date.

Do you think that this is in part due to better wickets that than the TT wickets on which games had been played recently? I too was thinking that we are seeing more of a competition between bat and ball than in recent past.

Much better to see the pace bowlers in among the wickets too, not only donkey drops getting batsmen out lol

I think that CWI should consider extra batting points for teams that score heavily in their second innings and for batsmen who score heavily in the second innings. This has been in the recent past a problem area for WI that even if they post a decent score in the first innings, they almost inevitably fold in the second innings. We just saw TT triple their first innings score in the second innings and Guyana almost do the same and they should be rewarded for that effort.

Agreed. This would be a great incentive for the teams.
