Except I do not remember R Kelly being accused of being a switch hitter, or subjecting people to verbal and physical abuse.

Good. Finally black music can be rehabilitated from the trash that enveloped it since the late 80s. Somebody the other day was comparing Dr Dre to Quincy Jones. Madness

It is said that black music, especially hip hop, was purposely led down a road of violence and sex, by record companies and producers. Conscious lyrics were not encouraged or recorded.

Similarly, dancehall was pushed by labels right as Bob, and other progressive reggae artists were in ascending mode.

That ushered in the diluted crap Era.

All driven by systemic entities of oppression.

Yes. I agree totally. I didn’t grow up on rap music. My dad purposely didn’t listen to it. I mean we used to see it on cable but the stuff I grew up on was music that was already quite old. And as I got older I discovered other musicians who were excellent. Mostly jazz musicians and musicians from Mali, Senegal etc. But rap music, like dancehall became self destructive very quickly, and legitimized a whole lot of behaviors that would never be acceptable in any other era.
