So, Jamaica have qualified for four Olympic relays, but not the men's mile relay. They will now have to wait and see if they make it as one of just two selected on the basis of world rankings. Looks grim!

Mike - no! They cannot "wait and see"; there are two teams (France(?) and Zambia) ahead of them for the two remaining men 4x400 spot. Jamaica will now have to find a meet between today and June 30th and run 2:59.12 to get in. Beyond that, it will mark the first time since we entered the Olympic Games in 1948 that Jamaica has failed to send a 4x400 team to the Olympic Games. Of course, there was that Federation team which included 3 Jamaicans and one Barbadian (Wedderburn).

Yes, the athletes/coaches decide if they want to compete at the World Relays or not, but this is very poor planning on the part of Garth Gayle and the JAAA. What an impending travesty!

Absolutely right! It's really sad to see how our male quarter milers have declined, given that heritage.

Doha Diamond League on Friday:

Men's long jump - Tajay Gayle, Carey McLeod (Jca), Laquan Nairn (Bah)

Men's 400m - Steven Gardiner (Bah)

Women's 800m - Natoya Goule-Toppin (Jca)

Men's 200m - Andrew Hudson (Jca)

Men's javelin - Anderson Peters (Gren)

Women's 100m - Natasha Morrison (Jca)

And more

Nathan Allen. Wow. I forgot about him. He went off the radar in a hurry. So now it’s Antonio Watson and three others. I cringe when I see Demish Gaye and Rusheen McDonald. I don’t care if he is the national record holder

You are sure about that? Maybe like the JAAA you should look around (especially beyond the locals) there are quality athletes around. JAAA have its head in the sand and if it's not MVP or Racers or to a lesser extent GC Foster, the JAAA doesn't look beyond them. If you didn't excel at Champs, they won't pay you much attention. You gats to be local.

McDonald's record was a fluke (semis), in the final after did he even run anything close? No!
By the way you'all notice Janeek Brown really getting back to top ability and form?

Joe,I am as sure as ABC. Apart from Watson and Bailey..maybe Powell,Jamaica's drought in the 400 is abysmal. The kid who went to Camperdown is not a 400 runner per say. He is a flat-out hurdler.

No return here of a Danny Mc.even though disciplines are reversed. But like you say, I will scour the American countryside to find those non locals to try and put a 4-man roster together.

But if the 400 runners were good and not local, and could qualify to run for Jamaica, you would think the athlete themselves would put their hand up, and show up at Trials, since the USA 400 team is hard to qualify for. Similar to Andrew Hudson running the 200. He is not beating Lyles, Knightinton or Kenny Bednarek. But he can beat Rasheed Dwyer and Nigel Ellis.

Or are you looking at it more from a developmental and investment aspect?

What is happening is a travesty that lays at the feet of the JAAA.
The lack of 400m male runners has been on the radar for years.
There is absolutely no longevity among the promising as they fall away all too soon
like the rising and setting of the sun.
More proactive outreach and priority should have been generated by the JAAA by working hard with the coaches
and clubs to ensure improvement by providing whatever resources necessary to
keep the country's record spotless in the 4x400 .
No darn excuses from anyone.
Track and Field musty not be allowed to go the way of the country's cricket.
No Sir..The 4x400m is the Bedrock of our T&F tradition and history.
It must not be tarnished. NO

Revelation here is Krystal. She looked very energetic in lane 1.No Talou, she wins.
Kemba bouncing back nicely.
Alana....more hard work to put in.That 10.92 long gone.
Brianna..more hard work ahead. What a turn of events for this young lady.

Talou was the story though. Nuff respect.
Forte..nice win even at 30 yrs.

Danielle was right there.
Our 400 women have a bright spot in Nickesha Pryce.Dropped a 49.32 to win SEC final.

On to the next meet.

I just hope they let Brianna rest up for as long as she needs it. Her chronic hammie needs rest and the rigors of the college circuit is too brutal for her to weather. Hope she can make it to the JA Trials. Nickesha is doing very well. I love her hard work and execution in the 400.

know season early but Antonio Watson looked really off the boil. Demish has less core than any avg athlete in any sport. Wonder if that was why the Cameraman zoomed in on his stomach. The guys have the talent but make us wonder if they're putting in the work. Gonzalez was good until injury, do guys think it is worth going over to Glen Mills? None of the 1/4 milers trained by 1/4milers Cameron and and the other guy seem to string together a series of good races in a season.

Yes,Brianna and that hammy looks suspect. The coach though seems to be playing it safe with her. Should not have run in the 200.

Miss Pryce is the real deal. Ja. finally have a solid 400 runner again who can make Bol and Mauriely from the DR take notice. Just need to get Charokee and Stacey back in form.

Yes, Ms. Pryce has been a breath of fresh air. I'm disappointed in the recent performances from Stacey Ann especially. The 400m is stacked with talent though. From Britton to Bol to Paulino and don't forget Syd. This year is gonna be fun.

This iteration of Women's 400M is as exciting and has potential to be more so than the era of Christine Ohuruogo, Sanya Richards and Amantle Munsho. Don't forget that Shaunie is out there!
