To be honest I'm glad Yard not 'over-dominating' with the wide gap medal wins. As Yard coach said the gap is narrowing and on the plane to the meet there were 19 participants from other nations who were flying out of Jamaica either because they attend school and or study there. TNT cricket leagues not so long ago contributed to players from other countries developing/improving their white ball skills.

But "yard" won more medals this year than last.

Host country mad as hell. I feel we had potential for one of the top 2 medals in that event. First leg ran...stopped and ran again...and they managed third. Its almost like Grenada was punished for not stopping completely.

Wow!! Not keeping up and missed it live. Even though winning more medals do you think its more competitive re-requires more effort to stay on top
with other nations gunning for spots and event winning margins tighter?

I’m not saying TT didn’t perform well this year. They did, and especially the events that they won, but unless we start putting coaches in the schools with measurables and plans, we can’t sniff the carpet Jamaica walks on. The Chinapoo guy is the first TT national I’ve seen dominate a finals. Generally, when we win, it’s always a come from behind, clipping the favorite at the line and creating an upset. You don’t create a winning culture like that

What I think we are conflating is the number of countries now winning gold medals. Jamaica's depth is just too much for any nation to challenge. Take as an example, the 4x400 on the women's side, Jamaica's U-17 girls ran faster than all U-20 girls team save the winning Jamaican team. That's depth. More countries in the region are taking track and field serious so this bodes well for future editions.

We have taken Sports Policy seriously in the Yard.
I always point back to the 1989/90 to 93/95 five year sports plan.
The role of the GC Foster College must never be ignored. Get the coaches into the schools from the youngsters are kids.
I marvel at the technique displayed by kids in primary and prep schools in the Yard.
Competitions even among pre-schoolers are taken seriously.

Actually, recently the Ministry of Sport had some of the elite JA youth coaches in TT conducting sessions. One of the coaches described TT’s athletic system as archaic. He was right.

What is sad is that JA and T&T both had very good track and field in the schools - I well remember the Southern Games.

Part of the problem is plenty young people in TT not really into athletics even as a hobby. I go running most mornings and I kid you not, I am one of if not the only person under 35 running, at least that I see. You will see plenty young ppl in gyms but not out running

To think Cuba gave us that school and the road map to how it should function and they (Cuba) has been going backwards in sports for almost 3 decades. Wonder if the collapse of The Soviet Union has anything to do with it.
They've been earning fairly decent tourist bucks so I don't know.

No doubt about the Cuban gift but JA took the ball and ran with it. MM, Ari’s et deserve nuff credit.
Another thing - school alumni play a big part and some world class athletes have coached in schools over the years.

Ato Boldon seems to think, and more than likely he’s right(because other athletes have been complaining) that the problem is the NAAAs, the body in charge of track and field in TT.

Explain.
We were told JA phenomenal T&F development was homegrown. You saying Cuba/Soviets plant the corn (TM Nesta).
The Soviets mastered art of sports turned it into a fine science (with some doping). The only nation to give USA hell in all disciplines. USA also big dopers played massive role in collapse of Soviet sports and political systems.

With plenty doping. The East Germans were the start of doping in the professional era. The last Olympics without mass doping was in 76. Everybody took it from them. Remember the shotputter who had steroids administered as a child and had polycystic ovaries by the time she was 20……with the accompanying facial hair. Not saying they were the only villains, because we know American athletes were on dope for decades until the IRS shattered BALCO, but the East Germans were definitely the start

Either I never explained myself well or you're misquoted me
Men like McKenley and "DJ" Johnson came back home and helped to develop JA's T&F program. Even Golding (paraplegic) deserves mention. The high-school structure as Chrissy mentioned has been kept at a high standard by alumni from way back in the early 1900's when Douglas Manley et al were schoolboy stars.
What the Cuban Gift did was develop a very, very large Cadre of well trained coaches who better understood all round physical training, bio- mechanics etc.
