CONSTITUTION CHANGE FOR TT? TRINIS COME EEN

Ramesh Deosaran's commission has proposed several constitutional changes, inter alia:

1. An executive President
Separation of the legislative and executive
2. Fixed Election Dates
3. Abolishment if several colonial type bodies such as the POS.

Hmm. Just to note that Executive Presidencies are NOTORIOUS for falling into autocracy and having coups. Heck even the US as seen in January 6, 2021 and all the attempts from November 2020. So without SERIOUS modifications to get rid of a presidential system's rigidity, it should be a NO GO. Parliamentary democracy while NOT immune is FAR MORE stable. He could argue for a directly elected PM who would STILL be accountable to Parliament. And fixed election dates need a loophole to allow for elections OUTSIDE of the fixed dates or you are likely to end with a coup if a President is unpopular and Trinidad doesn't THAT type of attempt again.

Yep, same thing, but a title change from PM to President- so an individual can run for the top office outside of the party system for example.

The PM will continue to be elected directly by the people but they will only be tasked with the legislative agenda and serve only their constituents
The Executive President will be elected by a direct vote and will appoint his own cabinet- MP's will not and cannot serve on the executive branch.

Firstly 8 years ago , increased Parliamentary Salaries and Pensions for all in Parliament.
Higher taxes
Record Murders 6th in world per capita
Crime 14th world per capita.
High Unemployment in PNM stronghold 25 % plus.
Water little improvement , some areas wait months for water , using pond water.
Roads in terrible state, some areas so many roads, land slips
Porous borders , yet allocates approx. 8 billion per year
Expensive Boats for Coast Guard..lack maintenance and fuel, parked at Stauble Bays
Debt increased with borrowings
