debut: 2/16/24
205 runs
Well McKenzie and Chanderpaul have both had poor showings in the championship. Tage has the solitary 100 but otherwise, absolutely nothing. McKenzie has not even reached fifty. Athanaze has three half centuries though, with an average of 40. Whilst he would admit he should have dominated and done better this season, I would certainly take him on tour.
Brathwaite, Sinclair, Imlach, Hodge, Greaves, Da Silva and McCaskie have all had some form of success during the championship and they were all in Australia for the last test series, so most if not all will likely make the plane for England.
Holder, over in the UK gaining experience on the county pitches along with Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales, has done nothing yet. He needs to step it up if he is to be selected.
Mikyle Louis, who leads the championship run aggregate with 514 runs (avg 46.7 with a pair of 100s & three 50s) has probably done enough for selection to the senior squad. He looks fantastic when the bowling is straight...outside the off stump is an area of concern though. If he improves that, he could be a very fine player. If Kevin Wickham is not taken to England, I will be very surprised and disappointed. He looks such a talent and has already recorded three FC hundreds. Sure, he has just turned 21 but if you are good enough, you are old enough.
Some of the other batsmen (or keeper-batsmen) may well be in with a shout too, such as Amir Jangoo or Keacy Carty, who I would personally take and give a run at the number three position. Jyd Goolie or Carlon Bowen-Tuckett could be considered but realistically, they may be better off on an A tour first.
The selection of this coming test series is one which will be debated for a while, and there will likely be a few who are missing from the list that are going to consider themselves unfortunate.
I did not mention players like Chase, Mohammed, Ambris or Carter as despite the fact that they have been amongst the runs at various stages of the season, I think that the test team has made progress going with a few more younger, hungrier players.
