West Indies Championship - The Final Round
Why isnt the Force picking Cariah?? That bowling looks a little thin if they have to get 20 wickets in the match to try to grab a top three spot
Scores update...
CCC 180/9 (N.Smith 3/42) vs Guyana
Leewards 200/4 (M.Louis 94*, J.Andrew 56*) vs Windwards
Barbados 155 all out vs WI Academy
T&T 148/4 (A.Jangoo 31*, J.DaSilva 27*) vs Jamaica
Bim bowled out fi 155 by di Academy
As we approach the close of day one in the final round, here is another update of how the scores currently stand:
Guyana 43/0 vs CCC 200 all out
Leewards 252/7 vs Windwards (another century for Mikyle Louis)
T&T 198/5 vs Jamaica
WI Academy 20/1 vs Barbados 155
the academy team a lot of their players have not taken that step forward this season in the batting like teddy bishop nyeem young and the ccc i dont see the purpose of it other than being the whipping boys of west indies cricke
Anyone has updated scores? WI website is not being updated.
Guyana 114-1 at cop
looks like Guyana going for as many batting points...
if they can get at least 1 batting point and win the game they will have overtaken Barbados for 2nd place...even if Barbados wins...
i am assuming Barbados will earn maximum bowling points against the A team and win the match
tc1 Way yuh dey come een uno see Bim meet dey match.
Congrats Mikyle and Josh on your centuries.
Well done
In reply to imusic
Can I assume it's Josh da Silva,it seems a difficult job to get TT scores,ah well tek wah yuh get when yuh not proper Caribbean.
Da Silva 106 well done ma boy but again Jangoo is in the runs he made 51 after the last match where he scored 218 runs in both innings, why no talk about him and n
an A team selection,I wish him all the luck because he has as much talent as a batsman as any in the Caribbean.I hope he won't be another Dinas.TT308 for 7.
In reply to velo
This argument sounds a lot like the Indian argument that WI shoudl not be playing test cricket
Congrats Avinash Mahabirsingh. 5 fer (so far) against Guyana
Day 2 update...
WI Academy 134/4 (A.Auguste 69*, C.Bowen-Tuckett 25*, A.Jordan 2/37) vs Barbados 155 (J.Layne 3/23, M.Clarke 3/26) Lunch taken following rain delay
Windwards 82/2 (J.Jeremiah 39*) vs Leewards 300 (M.Louis 100, J.Andrew 68, J.Louis 43, R.John 3/67)
Guyana 193/6 (R.Perez 62, K.Sinclair 37, T.Imlach 30*, A.Mahabirsingh 5/43) vs CCC 200 (D.Richards 43, N.Smith 3/45, V.Permaul 3/41)
T&T 347/7 (J.DaSilva 106, A.Jangoo 51, K.Ottley 45, T.Hinds 37*) vs Jamaica
Guyana 201-6 (1 batting point?)
they need another 100...
looking at Salmon bowl for the first time. He spins the ball quite a lot! I quite like what I see. Who is this Mahabirsingh who is running through the mighty Guyana??
In reply to doosra
Come on Guyana
In reply to PalsofMine
Avinash Mahabirsingh...off spinner...he turned 23 yesterday, played for WI U19s in 2019/20 but nothing of note since, until today.
He took 8/51...after chipping in with a useful 23 batting at number eight in CC&C first inns.
Quite the first class debut by the youngster!
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
Nicely done, youngster. Need to
do even more in second innings
TT 432 Jamaica 116 for 6
In reply to granite
Bim will be going for the win, remember they don't play draw cricket.
In reply to PalsofMine
Those teams belong it a development league, not 1st class cricket, you can distribute 12 of the best among the 6 regional teams and get better results.
We are the lone international team that allows developmental teams in 1st class competition, having these teams further dilutes your already weak competition.
COP scores?
In reply to tc1
What CWI is doing is widening the pool of players with FC experience. If you write off these teams and pick 12 of their best, you still have the problem that only 11 players at a time can play so inevitably you end up with players wirh less experience. The reason why we need the extra teams is that otherwise we end up with only 5 matches in the season per team due to the limited size of the region. What we should be doing is saying that CCC and WIA can be allowed up to 2 players per match who are professionals either from another island or from abroad with a view to assisting the young players.

Jam v Tit >> Win for Tit
CCC v Mud >> Too close to call
Bim v Academy >> Less than 200 run target Academy wins

That is Caribbean culture,we are all just little "tin pots" in the Caribbean Sea but we feel too big, bigger than we will ever be,the "Who gives a darn"statement tells everyone exactly who we are,a very small minded bunch of jealous minds. If allyuh could play another sport then go and boast, but yuh can't so try and be humble.
Guyana need 181 to win
and rain around
Barbados in trouble
Guyana 48-0 off 7.5 overs
rain, probably early lunch
rain also in the Barbados game
LI lead is now 295
WWI is almost out of it now
has LI accumulated enough bonus points to overtake Guyana just in case they both win?
In reply to granite
That's you opinion bro and I wouldn't deprive you of it.
However, my intention re the 'Who gives a darn clash', is:
simply that the two teams there cannot win the tournament.
The other three games can produce and will produce the title winner.
Any fool could see that.
Then again, I expected that some would not see it.
Lunch scores on the third day of the final round of this season's championship...Jamaica vs T&T still playing due to time difference...
Guyana 223 & 48/0 (R.Perez 26*, T.Chanderpaul 21*) need 133 runs to beat CC&C 200 & 203.
Leewards 300 & 177/3 (K.Carty 57*) lead Windwards 179 by 298 runs.
Barbados 153 & 173/4 (K.Brathwaite 81*, K.Wickham 35) lead WI Academy 243 by 83 runs.
Jamaica 189 (K.McKenzie 57, J.Royal 46, B.Charles 6/82) & 17/0 trail T&T 432 by 226 runs.
In reply to doosra
If Leewards wins this game, they will be deserving champions.
Let me be the first to say Congrats.
Revo large and in charge.
In reply to TanteMerle
they played well all tournament...last year they choked against Guyana...who will begrudge them
In reply to doosra
WWI is almost out of it now
has LI accumulated enough bonus points to overtake Guyana just in case they both win?
I sense a bit of nervousness in this question. Good one as I believe Leewards would have picked up bowling and batting points does but does anyone have the link to how this is calculated?
In reply to doosra
Are Fast Bowling Points awarded over the entire match or over the same period for batting and bowling points?
Guyana and Leewards got the same amount of Bowling Points (3)
Leewards got more Batting Points than Guyana (maybe 2 more)
Guyana were leading the Leewards by 2.6 points after round six.
In the first inning Guyana pace bowlers took 5 wickets compared with Leewards who took 1.
Very tight numbers
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
Glad to see Kirk delivering a fifty. He needs to get back in the nets with one of our players who understands di art of playing spin. Technique needs work.
In reply to voiceofreason
Found this from 2014 but there was no mention of Fast bowling points. If I remember correctly it was 0.1 points per wicket taken by designated Pace Bowlers. Not sure if it is for the entire match or for the first 110 overs of the first inning
Bonus Points
Bonus Points awarded only for performances in the first 110 overs of each first innings and retained what-ever the result of the match.
a) A maximum of five batting points to be available as under:
200 to 249 runs................................................... 1 point
250 to 299 runs ................................................. 2 points
300 to 349 runs ................................................. 3 points
350 to 399 runs ................................................. 4 points
400 runs or over ................................................ 5 points
b) A maximum of three bowling points to be available as under:
23 | P a g e
3 to 5 wickets taken............................................ 1 point
6 to 8 wickets taken.......................................... 2 points
9 to 10 wickets taken........................................ 3 points
For the avoidance of doubt, “wickets taken” shall relate exclusively to batsmen dismissed under Laws 30 to 39 inclusive and to batsmen retired out.
Based on the points awarded in the Windward vs West Indies A game, Fast Bowling Points are awarded at the rate of 0.2 points per wicket taken over the entire match
In reply to Chrissy
I agree with this comment, absolutely!
In reply to voiceofreason
not a bit
we won 6 recently so it is no worries and I do feel like the LI have worked hard over the recent years to earn at least 1
actually, the way Guyana started - we changed what 4 captains in the first 2 rounds? I am surprised they are in with a chance at this stage
In reply to voiceofreason
As it stands, it appears that if both Guyana and Leewards win their matches, Guyana would edge it.unless the Lewards pacers took all 10 second inning wickets, in which case it would end in a tie.
Points at the end of Round 6
Guyana 87.2
Leewards 84.6
Points earned to date
Guyana 5.6 (1 Batting, 3 Bowling, 1.6 Fast Bowling, both innings complete)
Leewards 6.2 (3 Batting, 3 Bowling, 0.2 Fast Bowling, with 1 inning to go)
In reply to Maispwi
ah that is close
not sure LI can get all 10 fast bowling wickets but who knows...10 * 0.2 = 2
In reply to Maispwi
What Bonus points Barbados got so far? I know they didn't get any from batting, so Guyana overtook them there...they took 6 fast bowling wickets i think so that is 1.2
they too might need all 10 to overtake Guyana, if they both win
In reply to doosra
5 (3 Bowling and 2 Fast Bowling with 1 inning to go). Dey could win if 2 wickets fall to pacers in the second inning. Ah had forgotten about them
In reply to Maispwi
rain holding things up there...they are ahead by 80 or so they need another 100 or so to give themselves a final day chance
Day 3 - GHE 91-0

Guyana done their job
now to wait on other outcomes
Well done, Tits. Not that easy to win your first match on the road. Cappo and Vice Cappo both led from the front and everyone in the team contributed. Would be nice if TT ends up ahead of Bim and WWI, esp as they lost the benefit of points in their first match. Four wins and two losses in the season is pretty good for TT so congrats as well to coach Furlonge and his team.
In reply to doosra
When he gets going he is classy... Dem boys used to call him de local Kohli
Ah kinda puzzled... Why did they drop Ali Mohammed for Akshaya Persaud? Surely Tyndall would have been a better replacement.... de corruption at GCB will never end... People continuing to push their friends and family.
In reply to anthonyp
that was an extremely puzzling move given they needed every bowling point
corruption as you say
In reply to Chrissy
Oh skites 7 wkts and 6 in the first innings,so only 13 for the match, not enough to say what about selection for the team to England.
In reply to Maispwi
I am a bit perplexed as to why bowling points are calculated according to how many wickets you take rather than how much you bowl out the opposition for. So bowling out a team for 170 or 400 gives you same 3 bowling points?
In reply to voiceofreason
Seems strange
WI Academy need 219 to win
43-0 at lunch
need 176 more to win
go Academy
Athanaze is a no no captain....melius was.a.better strategist as captain
In reply to PalsofMine
Great post and very objective, I wish if the posters were like you maybe they can learn so keep teaching them.
I am enjoying what I am seeing, Bim's cricket is in good hands.
Thank you to Reifer, Brooks, and many others.
So many youngsters have graduated and are ready to join the Pride.
In reply to openning
Didn't mention that your second team is better than yuh fuss team because it looks like defeat for the fuss team, looks like.
Windwards 233/6
WI Academy, chasing 219 to win, are currently 174/6 (R.Worrell 63, K.Alleyne 52, J.Warrican 3/46) vs Barbados
Windwards, chasing an unlikely 416 for victory are currently 249/6 (S.Pascal 63, J.Jeremiah 51, D.Doram 4/49) vs Leewards
WI Academy closing on what would be a memorable victory...require just 16 runs now to beat Barbados...Bowen-Tuckett still there on 21, Nedd on 14...
Congrats Guyana - dem een meking these runs.
In reply to 4REALQUICKS
Guyana will win again.
pride had no pride in this match they know who to get rid of next season any way the academy guys played well i continue being a fan of the little wicket keeper tuckett and joshua bishop
It's over, WI Academy secure their third victory of the season with a three wicket win over Barbados. A few dropped catches late on but the Academy boys held their nerve, especially the calm and composed keeper-batsman Carlon Bowen-Tuckett who played another fine innings to remain not out at the end on 27.
Guyana are champions again.
Bowen-Tuckett has impressed me all season. Really happy to see his development. A team for him, I think, as well as the Irish tour
In reply to openning
Guess you got to see there were quality youngsters who needed to be given the chance to play.
In reply to seaegg99
Dude, my motto is always about consistency, everyone brings a level of talent to the game, and you select players from performances.
Where would grade Kevin and Drakes the two youngest players on the team, in season performance?
Shaquille Cumberbatch at 29 years and cannot bat, what was his role?
Reifer and Jordan are very similar, and I just don't think Jair would have made any 1st division team, 25 years ago.
There are reasons why Barbados is not producing world-class elite batsmen.
In reply to openning
Of Kevin and Drakes, I would say that they disappointed in that they appear to be very talented but could not achieve the constistency of a Louis or a Jangoo. Wickham for sure makes the A team for me. Drakes has to wheel and come back next year
250k is not a bad prize for winners
In reply to PalsofMine
I agree with Drakes, he has shown promise but needs to show a bit more. However, for me, Wickham should go to England. He only really failed once in the entire championship season, had several starts (a few raw deals with umpires!) and in his last 10/11 innings, has two centuries and two fifties. He looks good at the crease, nice and calm, composed...certainly a player that has plenty of potential to develop into a quality international level middle order batsman. In the future, given time, I could imagine a middle order with players such as Imlach, Carty, Athanaze, Sinclair, Wickham...but as ever, only time will tell!
I think that it will be difficult for Wickham to make the middle order for England so I have him in my A team squad. He still needs to iron out that problem of falling in the 30s to loose shots. I hope that those names will be our middle order in the near future as Nos 2 to 6 (Imlach perhaps opening with Kraigg) to be followed by Silva at #7. I think that Athanaze made a tactical error in not bowling himself more. If he could have picked up a couple wickets, it would have raised his stocks on the basis that he and Sinclair could share the off spinning duties in the XI and he could have the Joe Root role.
