The more I think about it the more I feel Holder should not be in the test team.
Thought Roach was really good in supporting and coaching Shamar in OZ.
The team spirit and dynamic appeared really strong and bringing back someone who refused to be part of it could ruin what has grown.
Also, his recent form would justify his non selection also.
Our two best away performances in recent years have been in OZ and BANGLA and on both occasions Holder refused to go, says something

All good points in my opinion. Personally, I would rather give his spot to somebody like Kevin Sinclair, for example. Th team obviously did well in Australia and hopefully when they meet up for the England tour, that positivity carries over.

In case some of you are blind,
Holder's performances dipped with the cappo being taken from him.

I believe that he would have retired from tests if not for it being given to his friend Braffit.
The decision to penalize Holder with taking away captaincy was wrong
amid the promise of not punishing men for not going to Bangy.

I would not have gone to Bangy either.
Holder was never the same after that.
He is still one of the best players.

Look what happended to performance with the likes of
Bonner, Mayers, Mohammed, et al who went Bangy.
CWI rewarded them with continues selection and they failed miserably
Bonner had a good game or two being bowlers realized he cannot bat
Mayers performance flatter to deceive after Bangy tour.

I believe that Roach is past his sell-by date.
The issue is not many player put their hands up.
Shamar is an aberration and thanks for that.
Isai Thorne looks the real deal, but will they give him a chance.
Don't mention military medium Louis to me. (just don't)

CWI has a big puzzle with how to attract Hope, Pooran, Shepherd et al to red ball.
Also how to fine-tune Oshane, Nai Smith, Odean Smith et al.

The batting seems to be on tract to turn the corner,
but they have too make the brave decision to drop Tage, McKaskie
and develop the likes of Louis.
The three played the same competition and Louis shone.

I do not envy the selectors.

roach is significantly older than holder and seales

holder since he lost the captaincy seems to have lost a significant amount of motivation to play test cricket.

It appears that Jason Holder’s main motivation since losing the captaincy in all 3 formats is to focus on his golf game

looks so. he knows that he'll always have bajans in his corner. they couldn't even bring themselves to criticize ashley nurse's total lack of effectiveness or RTN's post 4 sixes performances.

if you're fidel or kirk and and like them, yuh doh carry the saxon mentality on yuh collar, damnation on you though

I don’t mean that as a criticism eh.

I can only imagine the hurt and perhaps betrayal he may have felt when it happened.

Harsh realities of regime changes……especially when Cameron was heavily favoured to be re elected as CWI President. Holder and Cameron were tight and often played golf together so to lose that support must have stung.

In moments like those, people sometimes turn to other passions to help them deal with it. It’s life.

And to be clear, I am speculating here. The only person that knows the real deal is Jason Holder.

i am sure in the recesses of holder's mind, he must have realized that his captaincy was not the result of merit, or even potential because he had no other obvious leadership qualities other than being tall. He never carried himself with the self confidence of a leader, he hadn't even captained any team in regional cricket or displayed any kind of tactical acumen. jason was a containment bowler when he was appointed captain. a containment bowler is like a rhythm guitarist in a jazz band. it aint flashy but is honest work i guess. And he must have known if cameron got the boot, he'd be the first to go. And that didn't take place ironically. West Indies allowed jason to captain the side in three series following the CWI elections in 2019, the india series following the world cup which lasted 6 days, the sl series in 2020 and the nz series in 2020/21, which also lased six days across two tests. they gave him a chance.....nd the results weren't very different from the cameron days, he just was being assessed as a captain now and was found badly wanting, which we knew all the time

And one thing is telling about both sammy and holder. While they were skippers, they didn't ever seem uncomfortable captaining second string teams while their respective sides were beaten to pulp. that shows deep insecurity. every WI captain i know asked their best players if they were available. we saw it with rovman, and both hooper and lara openly asked if they were available when their captaincy stints started. look at the list of west indian cricketers barred or dropped during holder's time: ramdin, gayle for a time, russell for a time, rampaul, pollard and bravo, narine, lendl simmons, darren bravo, the best batsman on the team

but the team is doing better.

Holder was never captain material,he would have developed into a much better bowler if not for the burden .

My perception of why Holder was appointed captain was this.

Following the abandoned / cancelled India tour, the board held a meeting that included players. It was essentially a kind of post mortem of what happened.

Holder was at that meeting and made an impression and the feeling was they had a future leader in the making.

South Africa had some success with making Graeme Smith captain in all formats. They also had their own “Graeme Smith equivalent” in Sammy.

They needed a captain who would tow the company line. One who wasn’t vocal about perceived bad treatment.

So they bit the bullet and named Holder as captain in all formats.

But in order to do so, they had to surround him with players who would do his bidding. Having someone so young and inexperienced captain veterans wasn’t going to work, so they cut the majority of veterans and all the Trinis who were seen as the main provocateurs. Rampaul and Ramdin were “friendly fire” casualties as a result.

The appointment also provided insight into the MAIN motivation for the appointment. That motivation was control. Pure and simple.

Holder was merely their tool.
