James Anderson, the record holder of 700 test wickets (the most by a pace bowler in the history of the game), has announced that he will retire after the first test match at Lords in July. It will end where it all began for Anderson, some 21 years ago.
Turning 42, he remains in good condition but following a recent talk during a round of golf with the England coach Brendon McCullum, it has been decided that England will now look to build an attack for the future, without Anderson's experience and presence.
I remember going to Aigburth Cricket Club near Liverpool, some 20-odd years ago, to watch an up-and-coming speedster who was on tour with the West Indies A side. That was the Guyanese bowler Reon King, who as many will recall, never managed to live up to the early promise and quickly faded from the test scene. That day, a young bowler from the other team, a Lancashire XI, made an impression on all who were watching. His name was James Anderson. I am glad I got to see him so early on in his career, a career that has been nothing short of illustrious. It will be an emotional send off for Jimmy at Lords...and one that he thoroughly deserves.

I was hoping to get over there for one of the tests but unfortunately, I will not be able to make it. My cheers will have to be from afar
