What is your West Indies Starting XI ?
1. Charles
2. King
3. Pooran
4. Powell
5. Rutherford
6. Russell
7. Shepherd
8. Chase
9. Hosein
10. Motie
11. McCoy/Alzarri
3 spinners is a must... pitches will be slower during the day..
McCoy, Shep and Russell are enough pace options.
Chase only bats early if we lose couple early wickets and we need someone to stabilize the inning.
In reply to LBW375
For the first game or two, I will give the following XI some game time:
1. King
2. Charles
3. Hope
4. Chase
5. Powell
6. Hetmyer
7. Rutherford
8. Shepherd
9. Motie
10. Shamar
11. Alzarri
For the tougher games, we should go with our best XI with minimum of 6 bowlers:
1. King
2. Charles
3. Pooran
4. Chase
5. Powell
6. Rutherford
7. Russell
8. Shepherd
9. Hosein
10. Motie
11. Alzarri
1. King
2. Charles
3. Pooran
4. Chase
5. Rutherford
6. Powell
7. Russell
8. Shepherd
9. Hosein
10. Motie
11. McCoy
Alzarri is the VC so he will likely play but this is my preferred X1
In reply to LBW375
You need Hosein's bowling more than Chase's batting...mek it mek sense
I feel this will be the XI
Hope
King
Pooran
Powell
Russell
Chase
Hetmeyer/ Shepherd/Rutherford
Hosein
Motie
McCoy
Joseph A/S
Damn, I leave out Shepherd. He is a starter but the only person to leave out would be Hetmeyer. Provides an extra bowling option and can strike it as good as Hetty.
King
Charles
Pooran
Chase/Hope
Powell
Hetmyer/Rutheford
Russell
Alzari/Shepherd
Hosein
Motie
McCoy
Holy crap I’ve never seen this much headache in team selection before!!! I think we actually have a chance #Rally
this is my XI
King
Charles
Pooran
Chase
Powell
Russell
Shepherd
Hosein
Motie
Alzarri
McKoy
and that's too start things off and see. I think when we need more batting power Rutehrford comes in and someone sits out.
In reply to positiveg
there is no way you are leaving Rutherford out
you don't need 6 bowlers and Chase
In reply to LBW375
Replace Shamar with Alzharri
In reply to anthonyp
That is my starting 11
I liking the idea of playing one team for the weaker teams and bringing out the real team for the real games, the real team is unanimous and picked itself...the only issue is AlJo should be replaced by McKoy in the REAL XI
King
Charles
Pooran/ Hope
Chase
Rutherford
Powell
Russell/ Hetmyer
Shepherd
Hosein/McCoy
Motie
AlJo/ Shamar
The alternates get rotated in for the Associate matches
In reply to DIEHARD
anyone with a Pooran forward slash Hope is a mad man
In reply to doosra
That's for the first two games. Trust me had Rutherford in and took him out before I hit send. And put in my list for first two games cause I want to see how we perform even against the lesser rank teams, cause I want us to play with intensity no matter who we playing.
I aint' wanna drop Rutherford but the thing is AlJo got to play cause hes' VC and Chase deserves his pick just from his recent performances. The thing is you have 4 group games so play and then make changes as you go along.
In reply to Mustwin
Alzarri was the VC... they didn't name a VC when they released th WC squad.
Allyuh obviously forget the lessons from playing against India 1983, Kenya 1996, & Ireland and Scotland in 2022.
You play your best and strongest possible team each and every match, unless the match is one where you’re already eliminated.
It’s the World Cup FFS!
SMH
Whatever 11 wi play it will make no different it will be the same wi and the same result .so stop all the hype up about wi .
West Indies need Chase's batting and bowling, period.
In reply to imusic
Agreed every match put your best out there.
Make slight adjustment based on form, injuries etc
In reply to TheTrail
why they need his batting and ahead of who?
and would you prefer Chase the bowler over Akeal the bowler?
In reply to imusic
Agree. establish your best 11 and play them till.....
Just make sure they know their role(s).
In reply to DIEHARD
Nope
Next thing we get a repeat of Kenya beating us ?
Full strength team for all matches. Changes can happen, horses for courses.
In reply to anthonyp
That’s the team right there along with ur reasoning. I think Aljo will start simply because he is the VC and no other reason.
I’d keep him on a very short leash, if he doesn’t go well early up in the tournament, McCoy next man up
In reply to imusic
Unbelievable people would suggest we not play our best 11 at allll times.
Ur right to seh fuh f… sake
net run rate
carry forward points etc
best team to maximise
In reply to doosra
Yeah cause even though they say if we win the group and we go into the Super 8 we'll still be ranked as team 2, summen like that. But we'll carry forward some valuable points and runs.
SO we play hard try to beat erry body bad and go from there
Me no believe in easing up off of no team
Cause what if that team have a good showing vs another team or get a rain out match then what. We shouldn't leave anything to chance. Bang all and sundry once we can and then let the bails fall where they may.
In reply to imusic
This isn't 1983. Australia did it on their way to the last WC, it's a way to manage player load. With the amount of cricket these guys play and have been playing load management is a real thing. U want a man like Russel to break down playing Papau New Guinea??
C'mon man. Athletes of today are not athletes of yesterday...these guys coming off of playing a LOT of cricket.
Take the opportunity to keep the bench match sharp and ready, Shamar is too much of an unknown quantity to have him in our best XI..let him cut his teeth against the easy match ups
In reply to Madmax
Alzarri is not the VC... they didn't name a VC for the WC.
In reply to DIEHARD
Russell got his rest when he didn’t play any of the warm up matches after IPL.
So did Pooran, Hope, and Joseph
Is either they professional or not.
And that load management lyrics is disingenuous.
Load management is used during the NBA regular season where there are 82 matches.
You DO NOT SEE load management at playoff time. It’s too important.
This is the World Cup. No time for that load management bullshit.
You assuming that these so called lesser teams are easy pickings and we could afford to play reserves against them.
And when they kick our asses, Allyuh load management advocates will be among the first to cuss management for not taking games seriously.

English please.
In reply to anthonyp
Actually they did, check Cricket West Indies site. Aljo is the VC of the WC squad

Alzharri is the VC.

Tnx Arlo, I made a meal out of posting the link.
My XI
1. King
2. Charles
3. Pooran
4. Chase
5. Powell
6. Hetmyer
7. Russell
8. Sheppard
9. Hossein
10. Motie
11. A. Joseph
Chase will be used as a floater, and gets in ahead of Hope as he can bowl and you need a 6th bowler. Alzharri gets in ahead of Shamar and McCoy as he is the VC. I don't see him being named vc and being dropped for the first match. As the first two matches are in Guyana and the 3rd is in Trinidad, both Motie and Hosein will play.
Hetty v Rutherford - Hetty is lucky he is in the squad. Either can slot in at 6.
Are they really going to start with Alzarri? Why? I hope not.
King
Charles
Pooran
Chase
Powell
Rutherford
Russell
Shepherd
Hosein
Motie
McCoy
In reply to Da-Vincy
Yes, they are going to go with Alzharri to start the tournament. He is the vice captain.
In reply to Arlo
What should vice captain have anything to do with selecting the best team?
Personally, I was surprised he was made VC, definitely not my choice. I would have gone with King as I feel that King is a definite pick in the XI, and the VC should be a definite pick. I agree that Alzharri is not a sure pick.
To answer your question, what should vice captain have to do with selecting the best team. The fact that they named him vice captain shows that he is in the selectors best team. No team will name a player VC for a world cup and then drop them for the first match.
Have you guys realise the form that the windies are in and the opposition in front of them in the first game, they will select an experimental line up still testing out the best option for latter tougher fixtures.
In reply to Raggs
This makes sense to me but..... It some how makes sense to others that Andre Russell be risked in a game Vs PNG
Anyone that thinks West Indies can take any team lightly and essentially feel they just need to show up and the opposition will roll over livin in an alternative universe.
In reply to imusic
Bro, facts says we have the best squad we've had in a very long time, free from some of the forkery thinking and selections that have plagued previous WC squads. Everybody is fit and in form. The last time that happened we won the title. Even the injury to Holder and retirement of Narine have not significantly weakened this team. When the weak links in your 15 are AlJo, Shamar and Hetmyer...any XI we put on the park can easily beat Papua New Guinea and Uganda, it's not like the replacements significantly weakens the team, is not.Tino Best and Darren Powell coming off the bench.
Shamar needs match time, but is not part of our best XI, Hetmyers issue seems to be mental to me, not part of our best XI but I feel like time in maroon against these teams will help to clear those mental cobwebs.
And we don't know if injury will hit us later in the tournament, so keep the guys not in the best XI match sharp, and wrap Russell in cotton wool, we need him at his best for Afghanistan, NZ and the next round
In reply to DIEHARD
We’ll…..we’ll soon see. Tournament starts today. All the best to our team.
We’ll agree to disagree on the merits of playing reserves against perceived weaker teams.
In reply to imusic
All Good, we Rallying!!! I'm extremely confident in our chances this World Cup, the last two ones, I was somewhere between apprehensive and cautiously optimistic...
there might be no starting XI in Guyana
In reply to doosra
Why? Guyana reputation to the fore?
In reply to imusic
yea...falling in and out all week...overcast as we speak.
In reply to doosra
Damn. Hopefully it clears up for the match
Maybe Dey could move it to Bim. Dem have state of de art cricket stadium.
Ice baths, Rain proof and ting
In reply to imusic
yea and deh only 20 minutes from ogle intl airport...deh can get there in 2 hours max
would be a real shame and pressure on WI if rain affects their 2 minnow games
In reply to doosra
I see dem chaps asphalt de new road to Providence stadium in the pouring rain so maybe they got something planned for tomorrow
Ah heard they bruk down the old manual scoreboard too... not sure what they replaced it with.
In reply to doosra
As far as I concerned, there are no minnow games.
People conveniently fuhgettin we take lixx from Ireland and Scotland 2 years ago with arguably a stronger team.
In reply to imusic
not sure PNG and Uganda there yet but yes got you
In reply to doosra
Kenya certainly wasn’t wherever “there” was in 1996
Alas……..
But I do get your point. To lose points due to weather from games we supposed to win on paper will hurt
West Indies team totally undercooked..... adopting outdated strategy..... batting very short.... will fare poorly..... adios!!!!!!
In reply to imusic
esp if NZ and Afg get to play those teams...it means WI gotta look to beat both Afg and NZ
an interesting start before a ball is bowled
