The Frigging Stands Are Empty
In reply to Raggs
Move games to 'Bina or Texas Prairie the Prairie was chock o block
Texas was a ram jam affair
Play Hety or else
That’s the message from the people
Yes, disappointing to see mostly empty stands, how expensive are the tickets, was the games promoted aggressively?
The cheapest ticket is 40 USD or so... And that's for the grass mound.
Orange stand is 80+ USD
Red stand 130+ USD
Green stand 180+ USD
Party stand 250+ USD
How many people could afford tickets at those prices?
In reply to anthonyp
Allyuh not rich now?
Come on....the fans from Berbice still tied up in traffic jam
In reply to anthonyp
Wow, that is pricey.
In reply to imusic
Nah.. Jeremy and his friends rich
De most expensive CPL ticket is usually around 50 USD.
I am not faulting the pple of Guyana. If this whole tournament is being played to suit Indian fans, why should they leave their homes for a morning fixture when T20 cricket is predominantly for evenings?
In reply to anthonyp
Gov’ment can afford to subsidise- schools, charities, anything to fill up the stands.
Poor planning
Excuses, excuses, excuses.
It doh matter which territory, what the time is, or what the ticket price is.
This is World Cup in the Caribbean. The home team is playing and yuh would swear is a test match crowd. Which dat and none is the same thing.
It’s shameful and not at all a good look as the host country.
Any by country I mean ALL territories, not just Guyana.
If this continues in the other territories, it will be disastrous. We won’t be hosting any ICC tournament regardless of format for some time to come, if ever again.
In reply to imusic
i would not be surprised if locals don't go out as much as we would like
things hard for the ordinary people of the region
100USD ish is a lot
In reply to Raggs
Yuh expected a bumper?
In reply to PalsofMine
Can't promote something as a big party and playing most of it at 10am... Caribbean people prefer night events.
It's all about pleasing the bookies though.
In reply to Raggs
Guyanese like Doosra boycott the game. They were making noise about the kind of games they got, when Trini got Afghanistan and NZD. I guess them man don't want to pay for half a match?
In reply to doosra
What happen Doosra so the oil boom not trickling down yet to the masses?
In reply to voiceofreason
oil money is for the people and their friends
ordinary people struggling in this country
i know because I live it on the ground
teachers are in court presently by the govt... etc
Its Sunday in the West Indies. People coming out after church bruh.
Audience in India is the reason for the early games
In reply to Halliwell
Think they shared some to the schools.
If the stadium was located in Berbice all the matches would sell out. They berbician love their cricket
10:30 am, especially on a week day, won’t get the crowds.
In reply to anthonyp
yea i see a set of schoolies in now
In reply to Speed100
CPL does sell out where? Berbice?
In reply to Cheeks
The match looks like it's going to be over before church is over.
In reply to anthonyp
Are those the local ticket booth prices..?
I find that hard to believe bro .
Super 8 tickets are as low as 45 USD in Barbados
In reply to doosra
That is sad but predictable.
=
In reply to Cheeks
Church nowadays? Probably partying last night.
In reply to voiceofreason
Older fans - church
Young uns - Party
Either way...stands will get better as the match progresses.
In reply to Elsie
Just checked the official ICC tickets prices for today match...
Orange stand 45 USD
Red stand 85 USD
Green stand 135 USD
Party stand 150 USD
For the semi final.. Just green and party stand available on the website
Green stand 210 USD
Party 200.
In reply to anthonyp
Schoolies are in on a Sunday. Stands still half empty.
This is the home team doesn't matter if we are playing PNG, i expected a better turnout. I believe the quality of the opposition more than anything else maybe the issue here.
In reply to voiceofreason
Quality of the opposition...
Start time... 10:30am on a Sunday?
Ticket prices...
All of dem played a part....
On that basis the orange stand at least should be packed
In reply to anthonyp
No I went on the tickets site and I saw tickets for $22.
And yes to the points you posted above all them things playing a part. I did expect more but like me [just coming from church and tuning in) I see some people going in the stand too
In reply to anthonyp
You mean they don't have special ticket booth sales for locals like PM Motley negotiated for Barbados...!!?
Nobody in Guyana (very few) is gonna pay that kind of money to see PNG, Uganda, Afghanistan ...
WTF .
In reply to positiveg
22 USD is for the grass mound ticket for today's match.
In reply to Elsie
No special prices... one price for all.
In reply to anthonyp
So only $ 22 for the grass mound and it is not full? So the rest of the ground is $ 100.00 ?
A better start time would have been 1:30 pm... Coulda still catch the Indian bookies.
In reply to voiceofreason
Grass mound is almost full... Look again.
In reply to anthonyp
Well Alright then. .
This may be the largest crowd we will see at Providence for Day Time matches..
dont look good for a major sports tournament could never imagine the fifa world cup in this situation regardless who is playing
In reply to velo
It’s shameful
Keep the damn cricket in territories that will have crowds
Stop trying to pacify some expats on the internet and loud politicians
lemme see...pay $100US to see PNG play West Indies early Sunday morning....hahahahahah
In reply to Halliwell
In that case all matches should have played in the US.

In reply to imusic
Is the disaster that’s we won’t get to host another tournament or the territories won’t benefit from supposed economic activity?
Either way someone needs to comment about the new product share arrangement from the ICC whereby India will garner 40% of revenues.
The way I see it don’t matter whether WI host cricket or not from a cricketing perspective so we need to be very clear what is the real economic benefit.
The ICC is not about cricket development and not truly about spreading the game. Everyone should enjoy this tournament for it will truly be the last one in the Caribbean regardless of whether the stands are filled or not.
In reply to ray
It makes you wonder who's in charge of the Local Organizing Committee...
They better hope India make the Semi Finals..
At higher prices, the attendance will be worse..
This is extremely disappointing. And as others have said the cricket will go where there is support. The ground in Dallas was packed last night. The same will happen with Antigua's first game Oman and Scotland and they will have the excuse that it is not established teams. Guyana has no excuse as the home team is playing. Guyana has a huge middle class with money so there is no real excuse. Or maybe the excuse is that outside of party cricket, there is no support.
In reply to anthonyp
Those numbers don't sound right. I think you are mistaken
In reply to bobby
Which match are you clowns watching?
I’m seeing a very well attended match.
The one stand which is empty is the one directly in the sun, and who wants to pay $50+ USD to get baked in that hot sun?
All the other stands are very well attended.
In reply to Baje
Check it for yourself... Here are the links
Semi final ticket prices
Today's match
I don't care what others think, but even if it's free i would still consider it a waste of 4 hours to go watch PNG, Oman, Nepal and Namibia etc.... no thanks
In reply to anthonyp
Start time... 10:30am on a Sunday?
Ticket prices...
All of dem played a part.
You omit….home team playing their first match at “home” with Guyanese in the playing XI
In reply to bobby
Bobby...
A huge middle class does not mean a large interest in Cricket.. plus .
The cost of living has been on a steady climb since the first oil .
A lot of those middle class households that own more than one vehicle, have to buy gas to keep them running..
45 USD will be better spent maintaining quality of life
The tickets cost too much...
Take a walk through Mattai Supermarket and check prices. Everything cannot be bought cheaply at the local food markets.
ICC’s response.
And that’s exactly why matches are scheduled in the US including premium matches.
More of that in increasing number to come for future tournaments
In reply to bobby
That's a fact not an excuse ....
Lot of naysayers tune in to “lickit” cricket.
In reply to Overthrow
At least it’s international lickit.
Unlike that rigged borefest IPL.
I won't comment on all the comments before. Some of us saw this long time,.
The most vital factor is not the crowds but the weather which could play
prove disaster to all teams.
Pray and hope that the weather in all venues stay good for cricket as that
is the factor that will make or break this WC.
I tune in to watch games not tarpaulins covering outfields and pitches.
Would be very disappointed if rain messes up this WC.
In reply to SnoopDog
You fraud.
In reply to Overthrow
Keep watching your rigged borefest IPL you simpleton.
In reply to Overthrow
Poopdog all the way in Canada bawling bout stands full. Yet the producers refusing to show the half empty stands. Ask Poopdog to catch a plane to Guyana and come support the team or maybe he might prefer Dallas.
In reply to voiceoftreason
This will probably be the most well attended Wondies match in this WC.
No one’s going to show up in Antigua or the dots. That’s for sure.
Now we see the value of Shai Hope at #3
In reply to voiceofreason
His knowledge of the game and crowd size is quite limited.
In reply to InHindsight
We do? How so?
Rutherford would be better at 4 today
In reply to SnoopDog
I assure you if West Indies was playing there they would show up in full capacity. This a neutral game crowd. Go siddung!
In reply to voiceofreason
Last time the Wondies played in Antigua only the groundsmen showed up.
I hope they got paid.
In reply to voiceofreason
VOR be careful , he fighting today...
Then Trini women took Snoopy BMW and its not returned.
I saw them driving it in Niagara Falls...
In reply to sgtdjones
Yuh see how they have Hetty warming the bench and skinning his teeth?
That’s exactly where he belongs.
In reply to SnoopDog
Pranali: "Time to see how this decision works out :Sherfane Rutherford over Shimron Hetmyer"
15.6
W
Vala to Rutherford, OUT
In reply to voiceofreason
Dude 5000 people and Antigua full...
More than 5000 in Providence at the moment.
In reply to anthonyp
Ask VOR when last more than 500 people showed up to watch the Wondies in Antigua?
In reply to sgtdjones
That will be interesting...two specialist left handed batters.
Split the difference
In reply to Hubert
Yep...
This is a good starting game for West Indies ....
to start with medium pace bowling ....
It will make them better as the tourney goes on..
Why shud governments of the region continually subsidize private enterprise?
The ICC and CWI set the prices and usually the local Board gets the gate receipts or a significant portion of it. These ticket prices just reflect greed since the TV deals are the giant share of the revenue. And dat is why games have to be played during the day to appease the largest market covering the bills
In reply to Maispwi
Excellent analysis. Every professional sport league goes cap in hand for a government/taxpayer funding scheme to support wealthy owners and players. Price your product to encourage your market to respond favourably.
In reply to anthonyp
You must be talking about the ARG. The Sir Viv Richards stadium can accommodate 10k.
In reply to doosra
things hard for the ordinary people of the region
100USD ish is a lot
i have better things to do with that money. planning a trip to visit my cousin and his wife in southern south america....i doh have money to waste on washabat cricket. The SA-WI test surely, if WI perform in england
In reply to voiceofreason
It was sad to see a poor turnout. No excuse for a WC with our team playing.
If this continues USA will get all the premium matches in the future.
CWI should have lobbied ICC to have a formula that helps with attendance for WI games especially vs
(minnows)
a. Subsidized tickets
b. not sold out within 7 days to match day bumper discount.
c.unsold seats within 3 days donate to kids and advertise massively.
In reply to Jumpstart
How much will the same fan spend for a jump and wine party?
It is very clear our cricket "administrators" know very little about the market- they still do guess work, with non existent marketing data and intelligence.
They could do a buy the non WI ticket at regular price and get a 15% discount on a ticket for a game of your choice. Or buy two at full price and get the third 50% off for any match or some sort of discount marketing beneficial to all.
In reply to Brerzerk
That plus, sponsors are allocated x amount of tickets doesn't matter that games. So a lot of the empty seats are also sponsors tickets
These sponsors could easily arrange with the local cricket associations through the LOC/ICC to give these tickets away. I've seen it happen during WC matches before.
I know the prime time WI and other big name team matches will draw the crowds but I think they can do a lot better and ask the sponsors to donate the tickets or give them away on the radio through giveaways and all that.
In reply to Emir
cricket at 10am is just not a good time to get people in...unless it's a blockbuster matchup. You get the casual fans in the evening
In reply to ray
You would think that West Indian crowds would turn out to see THEIR TEAM play regardless of what time it is.
Obviously that is not the case
Doh complain when next time WI “host” a tournament, they playing their home matches in Florida or New York.
Jamaica done set de trend.
In reply to imusic
So, you think fans gon show up at 10am in US to see West Indies? okkk
In reply to imusic
They gotta stop pleasing BCCI... which ever country or region hosting matches it should be on their terms.
Matches should be schedule to suit the region and ticket prices should be affordable.
Don't blame the fans for not turning up at 10am or refusing to pay some ridiculous prices. If ICC don't want that then carry all the tournaments to India.
In reply to ray
Yes
....
Tell Madero to send some Venezuelans they will show up...
In reply to anthonyp
How much is Tickets for tonight's match in Guyana..?
Local Ticket booth prices for last night's match in Barbados was 17 USD ...
In reply to ray
Yes!
iTito and the ground staff.
In reply to Elsie
Cheap and sweet tonight... from 6 to 25 USD.
At that price for sure Providence would have been packed for the WI match.
In reply to anthonyp
Pure speculation

In reply to anthonyp
Notwithstanding, 5000+ at Providence against PNG at 10am was a good turnout.
Dem set up the derbies Eng vs Scots and the crowd looks shabby in little England oh well...Kensington Oval not delivering too.
Let me enlighten some posters. The TV rights were purchased by Disney + Hotstar and Star Sports for over $2billion from ICC. This contract ends this year. They have renewed for over $3billion for 2025 to 2027. They dictate the game time schedule to ensure maximum viewership and ad sales. A major reason why cricket has income to fund various boards and increase wealth in the game for players etc.
In reply to Overthrow
Well if that is so. Big cooperation bulks of free tickets should have been handed out to fulfill the image of the multi billion dollars business. Image is everything.
In reply to Overthrow
So if the interests of 2 billion Indians, and the Indian gambling mafia, are the only consideration for these events then they should hold them exclusively in India.
In reply to SnoopDog
Next round the BCCI and ICC discuss hosts, BCCI will point out the low attendance and compare to the games in Asia. WI will not get to host another WC in the near future.
In reply to googley
But that's the things Googs.
If the TV deal is all that matters then there is no reason for the ICC not to price out the seats for locals at $20-25 USD and get as much people in the stadiums as they can.
India wants to have its cake and eat it too. They want the US market but they want to games to be televised to suit their time zone.
Their greed will eventually get the better of them but unfortunately the game will suffer irreparably for everyone else.
In reply to Raggs
And this is what I said in another post
Instead of the tickets form sponsorship just sit there, but bums in the seat to sit there and watch the game.
In reply to SnoopDog
Clearly basic economics is beyond your comprehension.
In reply to Overthrow
You're the clown who believes the IPL matches are real.
Even the kick off to suit their time zone is against us. Rain normally falls early morning but the evening/ night games the weather would be far better for all the games. Atmosphere and all.
In reply to Raggs
The vast majority of these games should have been played in the evenings under lights.
In reply to imusic
Mekking bare sport.
You are next up in a big one so I hoping stands full vz NZ.
In reply to nick2020
Guess we will soon see.
Oh…..and we are not up next. There’s a match against Uganda in Guyana before that NZ match.
Enjoy yuh ice bath
In reply to iTito
Yuh can flap yuh gums because y’all got the two best matches (NZ and AFG) in that group.
In reply to imusic
Powen so happy about it it must be great. I would love to try it out and give my old bones a good soak.
In reply to Poopie
WI plays AFG in St Lucia
In reply to imusic
Wonder who will be in the stands watching Uganda and PNG
In reply to ray
A dozen men and a dog.
In reply to googley
Sounds like a test match
