Match starting in an hour...man I already sleepy having got up 5.00 am this morning...watched 2x T20 matches and did much work in the yard....beautiful and sunny here...good to be outdoors...
See you later..
It's strange and beautiful that Uganda's third T20I against a Full-Member nation - they first beat Zimbabwe in Africa Qualifiers to reach the T20 World Cup and then lost to Afghanistan on their World Cup debut - is against West Indies. Irrespective of the result, Saturday will be celebrated and cherished not just in the Ugandan dressing room in Providence but also back home.
Some Ugandan players' role models are West Indians.
Some added intrigue
In reply to Narper
nice day here as well,,,busy outdoors

How is the weather?
We are going to bat first. Looks like a typical Guyana wicket - low and slow. Hopefully we can put some runs on the board and defend it. It's still a wicket where you got to play goodcricket shots. 110-120 is not defendable. Once we improve in all three departments, we should be good. Last few days we did some trainingand resting. Same team.
Probably would have batted first as well. It's a bit difficult to chase. It's what we have got. We have to bowl well. Historic moment for us (win against PNG). It's back to business for us. Just try to get the boys to focus again. We'll try to come out here and give our best, makes sure we get our processes right and try put West Indies under the pressure. It's about reminding the guys what they've done well in the past as a batting unit. Juts making sure they keep it nice and simple. Focus on the ball again. If we can do that, we can get a decent score. No changes from the last game

"Back-to-back night games here on the same surface. Fairly pleasant from a playing point of view. Well over 80m down the ground, late 70s on the leg-side and only 70 on the off-side. Gurbaz described the surface as challenging and very tough. It was tough because of the variable bounce. Quite a lot of them kept very low (in the NZ vs Afghanistan match). Not much bounce on the surface and that could be a cause of concern. Some turned, some didn't turn. Overall, there was a lack of bounce, that's where there's the uncertainty is really for the batters. It looks very similar to the way it looked last night. It'll play in a similar way.
Is 32 past. Two minutes late and dem man have the gall to do countdown?!!!
Jordan: "Hoping for a Ugandan upset today to help my beloved Black Caps get out of the hole they seem to have found themselves in."
Pitch Report: Same surface as yesterday is being used. Square boundaries are slightly skewed - 70m to one side, 77m to the other side. The track was challenging yesterday because of the variable bounce and that could be a cause for concern. Samuel Badree expects the pitch to play in similar fashion. Keeping wickets in hand for the back half could be key and could be where teams get their runs.

thank god uganda can't make a total over 100 and thank god the team is leaving this ground. It plays like the grounds in the UAE and Nagpur. WI and India became unstuck badly in the UAE T20 world cup in 2021 and both teams lost at Nagpur in the 2016 WT20, india losing to nz in the opener and WI losing to afghanistan, even though we had qualified for semifinals already. I 'm seeing the Guyanese minister of sport said that he was unhappy with the games providence got. I'm sure the WI are unhappy to be playing at this ground. its the anthesis to our style of play

18 runs off the final over spoil what was a splendid death overs performance from Uganda.
....
10:06pm West Indies could not quite hit top gear with the bat, but Russell's cameo has ensured that they have more than 170 on the board. Prior to that, Pooran and Powell were enterprising for their cameos. Rutherford also made 22 off 16. Charles spent the longest amount of time at the crease but could not get going at all, scratching his way to 44 off 42. They will still be happy with this total, although they will feel they left a few runs out there.
A massive chunk of that was down to how well Uganda bowled in the back half. Their yorkers were largely on point
A massive chunk of that was down to how well Uganda bowled in the back half. Their yorkers were largely on point and it was only in the last over where the runs flowed. Masaba, before their death-bowling display, tied the West Indies down with his variations. Ramjani and Nakrani was also impressive, although it was surprising to see the pair not completing their respective quotas.
While there were promising bits through their bowling innings, there is no denying that Uganda have a steep chase in front of them. But if they are to get there, we will have seen one of the greatest upsets at the T20 World Cup. Join us in a bit for the run-chase!
Johnson Charles: It feels good (to score some runs). Guyana is always a tough pitch. I felt I really had to give something for the team. I think we have a decent total on the board. Once we nail our lengths, we have a decent chance. I wanted to make use of the first six (overs). I wanted to open up the off side but their pacers bowled well, sticking to their plans. The pitch did not really bounce. I think we have enough on the board, as long as we hit our lengths.

Akeal Hosein to Dinesh Nakrani, out Bowled!! The procession of wickets continue. That was a tossed up delivery, outside off, turns in big and Dinesh Nakrani misses the line of the delivery to be clean bowled. Excellent captaincy from Powell to give the final over to Akeal Hosein on the trot and he has delivered. 6th one down for Uganda. Fourth wicket for Hosein. Golden chance for him to add a fifer here. The bowler managed to traverse the gap as he prodded forward.

Hosein to Waiswa, OUT
Five of the very best for Akeal Hosein! Another arm-ball that starts outside off and zings back into Waiswa. Like many before him, he has no idea about this. Plants his front foot and then plays outside the line. The ball sneaks past the inside edge and thumps him on the front pad. Kumar Dharmasena gives it out, and even though Waiswa has reviewed, this looked out.. Kumar Dharmasena gives it out, and even though Waiswa has reviewed, this looked out. Clear gap between bat and ball. Ball Tracking coming up now and it returns with three reds, with the ball thudding into the inside of leg stump!

And he is also the first WI spinner to take a five-wicket haul in men's T20Is.

Gloved through to Pooran! Another one bites the dust! Banged in short on middle and leg. Masaba wants to have a crack at this but he is awfully late on the stroke. The ball gets big on him too and he can only feather it through to the keeper. Joseph in on the wicket-taking act now!

Another big appeal, and another batter falls to the arm-ball!Another big appeal, and another batter falls to the arm-ball! This has been WI's biggest bowling weapon tonight. The ball starts just outside off before coming in with the angle. Kyewuta does not get a big enough stride and does not pick the variation either. Plays all over it and the ball clips the flap of the back leg right in front of middle stump. Kumar Dharmasena raises his finger, and Kyewuta does not bother with the review!

There it is, a whopping 144-run victory for the West Indies! And this is also the joint-lowest team total in the men's T20 World Cup! Length ball in and around off stump. Nips back in a shade with the angle and beats Nsubuga for pace, who anyway had a half-hearted poke at it. Top of off stump is rattled, and that sums up with has been a terrific bowling performance!

11:10pm A proper hammering. That is what it was. At the half-way stage, it seemed that WI had enough but the way they bowled and how Uganda responded with the bat, just illustrated the gulf in quality and experience.Coming back to Uganda, their lack of pedigree was shown up. Mukasa was dismissed for another duck and that set the tone for what was to follow. Only Miyagi managed to get into double digits as they crumbled under the pressure the West Indies applied.
That said, Uganda will want to use this as a learning curve, rather than getting too bogged down by it. The West Indies are two-time champions for a reason and even though this was another tough initiation into the highest T20I tier, it will certainly help Uganda in the longer run.
Hosein was Uganda's tormentor and their batters just could not come to grips with his arm-ball throughout his four-over spell. Almost all of his wickets came off that particular delivery and that broke the back of the Ugandan innings. Joseph picked up two as well, with Motie, Russell and Shepherd also chipping in.
Beat the kiwis and we through to the next round.
So we NRR is 3.57
And AFzg is 5.22
I'll live with that still. We win one and improve we NRR two. Congrats team. Keep checking those boxes.

Akeal Hosein, Player of the Match:
I think I needed this. In the nets and in the previous series, I felt the ball was coming out good but I was just not getting the rewards. (On which one was his favourite wicket) I think the regular off-spinner (to dismiss Nakrani), that was my favourite. (On his approach) I think it is a lot of hard work. When you get success, guys are going to study you and have a plan. You always have to stay a step ahead. For me, it is just about trying to react to what the surface is doing and planning it out. Even if the ball is going both ways, you cannot do much if you don't plan. So, it is about planning the over well. I am happy to bowl wherever the team needs me.

I just played it back...
I didn't see that...but we are allowed difference of opinion..

What disharmony ....I stated what I saw and reviewed...
Big win albeit vs our brothers from Uganda. West Indies vs New Zealand will be the big game. A win takes us to the super sixes.
Bro just leave it alone. Nothing to make of it just move on. We have bigger fish to fry.
West Indies always doing something to make man cross....
The Ugandan women were deprived the opportunity to celebrate , dance and support.
WI could have shown some compassion for the fans.....not sour the UG women like dat....
That's how you must treat a 2nd and third tier team. Good work WI.
Lest we forget or did not know, Uganda along with Kenya had fairly high standard
of cricket and competitiveness and were the two foremost countries that comprised
the East Africa team that competed in the First ODI WC back in 75.
The rivalry between those two countries had a long history.
But while Uganda regressed for a while( Idi Amin regime probably had something to do with this)
Kenya took their game to higher level and you know what happened in 1996.
Sadly things took a turn for the worse with them with internal problems and with lack of meaningful support from
the ICC they have fallen far.
Some of us thought that they would have been a Test playing country before Bangladesh as their
game had that trajectory.
The good thing is that the East Africa experiment fell away as it was being advanced much like
a West Indies model.
Considering the size of Kenya, and especially the wonderful cricket that was played in the second
City Mombasa back then,it is to be hoped that Kenya's cricket will return to the fore.
Uganda seems to be doing more and their future could also be bright, considering that they are in the WC and
Zimbabwe has fallen away too.
Hopefully with Olympics as another incentive, these African nations will improve as T20 cricket is the Future
and is already looking like it will take the game on a global scale much like football(soccer).
And that will be wonderful outcome.
The encouraging thing is that all these 2nd Tier countries are also involved with developing the women's game
at age group level.
There is a message in that for some people. A bay today, adult tomorrow.
