Where you finish in the group has no bearing on what group you are in during the Super 8 stage.

Teams retain their pre-tournament seeding / designation, so the west Indies will be C2 whether they beat Afghanistan or not.

Similarly, if England advance, as they likely will, they will still be team B1, having entered the tournament with that designation.

Ok. The rigging continues.

WIForever 2024-06-15 12:56:52

I honestly thought C1, C2 meant finish position.

WIForever 2024-06-15 12:58:40

Actually pretty good for WI, we got the better of England and SA recently

No rigging. These rules were set way before the competition began

In reply to WIForever

Yep, by using the seedings the positions are predetermined. The reasoning here could be anyone's guess.
For sure, it has created many dead rubbers. e.g. WI vs Afg on the same points - 6 and nothing to play for except momentum.

are you saying that rigging couldn't happen before the first ball was bowled?

actually, when you do think most rigging of anything happens? after the fact? lol

it looked like "they" miscalculated ... with WI and SA both looking good for a Semi spot

In other words, the rigging was set way before the competition began. lol

You'd think men would stop a minute to think about what they type

is it surprising or accidental that India playing in the US, England in Barbados and Antigua?

Indeed, North Sound must be on fire then.

I'm hoping that we would have qualified before that. lol

Because of this rigging I knew ahead of time which super 8 games we might be involved in and was able to buy ny tickets accordingly

The process is not transparent like other world event draws. Seed the groups and randomize the rest in a public draw.

USA has upset some of the rigging as to host venue.
Bim get USA for two games...more likely a higher favored team has been displaced .
St Lucia seems to benefit too with high profile games in the Super8s.

cumberland 2024-06-16 04:00:31

USA, ENGLAND, WI, SA....Group 2 Super 8
Showtime!

India, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh....Group 1 Super 8....

I am not going to assume rigging however the policy is poorly thought out.

First rankings already determine your group placements coming into the tournament.
Secondly once the tournament starts Super 8 seedings should be determined by current form in the tournament. Just like the NBA 1 vs 8 2vs 7 etc. You reward tournament form.

Now WI vs AFG has zero relevance as teams may well rest key players.

doosra 2024-06-16 10:55:13

In reply to voiceofreason

What do you think certain policies are geared towards? Not advantage for some?
Man you think these policies were not "well thought out".

You gotta be naive

Let me ask again
1. Do you think it's by accident india played in the USA
2. Do you think it's by chance england in barbados and Antigua
3. Do you think it's by chance india play Pakistan and Australia play England...
Etc

Do you think they are not aware of the value of post play seedings ?

WI in tougher group..I still believe England will be in the Semis and has a great chance of repeating ....and I don't like the POMS on bit.confused
Afghanistan as some have said will probably win it all.
BUT I detest them for being representative of a Regime that treats Women as less than human. AND the ICC is complicit with them
in the same way the old Imperial Cricket Conference treated the Apartheid regime of South Africa.
I hope they don't win any games and am happy that they will not be touching any part of my Born Land, Jamaica.
We value women there as the backbone of the country for those who do not know the history of that Little Rock.
India and OZ in the final would really make my day.
Today is my birthday as well as Father's Day ....and I am sober lollol

Dude, you don't build a 35K stadium to see PNG vs Uganda...you are trying to grow a sport, not sink it

doosra 2024-06-16 14:04:25

In reply to ray

you are only confirming my point with more evidence

that they deliberately set it up the way they want

you are using PNG UGANDA as the extreme case and not the norm

think about it

just to be clear, i understand the approach...just that some people are pretending it is an open contest...it isn't as open

The reasoning for the predetermined seedings for the super 8 is so fans can purchase tickets and book travel plans so they can see their team play.

The rationale being if the super 8 matches are fixed then more of the fans especially the non local fans would attend.

So fans know once their team qualifies where and when they will play months in advance rather than a day or 2 before.

It is called scheduling for optics and expanding the game. Understanding where the fans are and targeting that and of course you want a full house for tv optics so you can say it was a success. So of course you will position teams where their fans are likely to be. I doubt has anything to do with trying to gain an unfair advantage.

Add to this at the time of the World cup draw the top 8 teams are paired in 4 groups then everybody else outside thrown him that is why we are in the group of death because of our outside the 8 ranking at the time of the World cup draw.

Ok maybe there well thought out but not for an unfair advantage.

You know makes sense. Now I figured was for optics and it does make sense cause I would do the same etc. Setting up those SA teams to play in those markets. It works well in a WC like this.
After the group and Super 8 will be like anything goes. Even after the group stage you can't be sure because there are what 2 teams going home who no one expected to be going home this early (Pak and NZ). Plus the US A in the Super 8 is also a surpose. I think overall a lot of eyes is on the WC and it might work out well for the only advantage I thinkbthe ICC set which was, growing the game in the IS. If rheu can take this boost and get a nice run out of it. The US could be competing with the BCCI in who got the most say in cricket in a few years lol. But cricket right now is winning. Can't tell when last I've looked at so many matches don't know if it has a lot more to do with the time being our time so fall more within our schedule vs when they are played say over in SA and down under.
