These low-scoring games may have produced some thrilling endings here and there.
But I’d much rather the same thrills in a runs fest.
“Correct batsmanship” my foot. That’s for the longer forms. T20 was designed to entertain. And nothing does that more than exciting batting with big hitting.
Don’t tell me about cow lashers need to learn to bat. There are plenty elite batsmen in this tournament, whose game have been compromised by the surfaces.
The claim that batsmen need to learn to bat can also be applied to bowlers. Bowlers need to learn to bowl on ‘flat tracks’. Ask Bumrah.

This World Cup mostly sucks
In reply to Da-Vincy
You are conflating the two ....

In reply to Kay
In the context of this form of the game, I don’t think so.
Just piercing the gap for one or two, or tickling it nicely to short fine leg doesn’t exactly make for exciting T20.
In reply to Da-Vincy
You trying to upset the faux purists??
Dem talkin bout “building an innings” and “proper batting”
Nex ting dey go be advocating for batsmen to see off the shine, leave balls alone to let the wicket dry out in the first hour, and demand kraigg Brathwaite and tage open the batting.
In reply to imusic
Pure bs! But I think they just pretending. Trying hard to make it look like they’re some sort of “connoisseur”
On top of the wickets and lack of scoring, the scheduling has left a lot to be desired.
Remember when some teams had played like 3 games to New Zealand’s one?
We have Nepal playing for the 2nd time in 3 nights, while teams have had gaps of up to almost a week between games.
Then the timing of morning, afternoon and evening games is not really consistent. 10:30, 11:30, 2pm, 3, 7:30, 8:30. There are overlapping games starting just an hour apart.
They killing the “viewing momentum”!

For many of them…..not all….,after all the criticism and looking down at, and holding Dey nose at “lickit cricket” and “6 and out” and how wutles it is etc, it’s a way to justify their intense participation in seemingly every delivery in this World Cup.
Pretentious is accurate

I haven't watched any of it and probably won't watch much of it now the Euros is on.
16 teams would be more than enough.
In reply to imusic
...Hope one down.. Roach primary bowler...
In reply to imusic
The correct term is "6 or out junk".
From what I have heard, that particular incarnation of the sport has not been played in this world cup.
I actually watched 2/3 of 1 game and 1/4 of another. I especially enjoyed the 2 slips that were employed and the 2 wicket maiden over.
Cricket (Batsmanship) can be enjoyable and entertaining without the one dimensional pitches.
But then again I was spoilt by watching players of the calibre of Lara, Richards, Greenidge, Botham, Tendulkar, Pointing et al in full flight.

How you think those you list would've fared in this tournament on these pitches?
Why aren't we now seeing "enjoyable and entertaining" batting from the likes of Kohli, Rohit, Williamson, Babar.....? Won't you consider them high calibre batsmen?
Don't know about y'all but I am quite happy to see shite batsmen get their comeuppance...
I like the games, and this is the most WC games I've watched in a while.
To me the matches are competitive and not one-dimensional
Think some may have issues with is cause they want to see a one sided game where the batsmen dominate from start to finish so it's just runs and runs
So guess to each their own.

This WC has been the most closely contested and the best part is how the so called minnow teams have given the big guys a run for their money and the USA knock out of Pakistan is a massive upset.
The IPL model was never going to be the model for this WC and in a way, seeing the bowlers on top and batters having to actually their brain and bat to win games is refreshing.
In reply to Da-Vincy
Is that a fact or is that your opinion?
In reply to Da-Vincy
Vincy you jus hit me fuh six in that first post.
Ditto
In reply to Da-Vincy
Read again what you wrote there.
And read it very carefully.
In reply to SnoopDog
Lol lol. He actually has made Larr post clearer.
Actually, this the most cricket I have ever watched....I don't watch IPL because it's just a runs fest
Nepal almost beating South Africa makes me wonder about some of these "batsmen"

Image a student walking up to a professor and saying "I'm an elite student whose intelligence has been compromised by your exam".
In reply to SnoopDog
A shorter put, "don't insult my intelligence"
In reply to imusic
Aren’t you the same guy that doesn’t like the EPL for it’s excitement factor????
In reply to XDFIX
Very soon these guys will get what they really want.
Bowling machines at each end that the batters teeing off for 20 overs.
How exciting it will be.
In reply to SnoopDog
It would be like the Home Run Derby with fake pitchers!
In reply to StumpCam
I told one of them on another thread that if they want to see guys just mindlessly swinging like a rusty gate, go watch IPL or batting practice.
The only lickit I watch are International matches and CPL. That's it. And I still hope to see a contest between bat and ball (a.k.a. A cricket match) when I tune in.
the so-called modern greats disappear fast when on tough tracks
tell when was the last time you saw a top class innings from one of these modern greats when the going got tough - the Indians for example no longer know how to bat on dustbowls and rank turners...etc
none of the improvements in
bat technology
nutrition
fitness
etc
would make them better batters...
if you celebrate cow lashers and flat track bashers, fine...but don't get yourself 'tie up'...
Listen to Stephen Fleming...and before you start cussing....Flem is a longtime successful coach of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL
Tell them Flem..you have to develop good batsmanship
In reply to Da-Vincy
