Selective Reporting and Embellishing Facts

Besar 2024-06-17 15:40:23

can be misleading. And, that is how we have to be careful with what we read, where, by whom the news are presented, and their motives. If we do not learn the art of deciphering news from all different sources on a daily basis, then any stupidee like Donald Trump could mislead us. A lot of us are trained in that regard, so all the misinformation coming from MAGA, or the Gaza war, Haiti, COVID etc. does not mislead us. But, many times one wonders, why do people spread misinformation? Why do people embellish stories? In Toronto, for example, it is a fact that a heat wave warning is out this week, but not a single day or night is the temperature forecasted to be outside the range of the 23, (Low) to 35 (High), degree Celsius . Just about an hour or two, the humidex is forecasted to be between 38 to 40 degree Celsius, but 98% of the time it is mid 30's. The humidex is a quotient that combines the temperature to the humidity and it comes up with a figure to describe how hot it feels at a particular temperature; it is not the temperature.

I really thought that this was an important distinction to make, especially because there are places in the world at this time with actual temperatures of 40 Celsius, with humidex almost 50 degrees Celsius. We should not confuse the two. In fact, Toronto or even Ontario, very rarely experience temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius, but in July, and August, several days could experience that humidex factor.

We have to be careful what we read.

Well said, and I agree with all of your sentiments, including heatwave in TO.

Maybe it doesn't matter what we read, it might be what we choose to believe or regard as fact.

Weather post

I get weather news from Environment Canada .

I doubt they embellish the weather reports . Its what I post read it againtwisted...

We're just days away from the summer solstice, and Ontario and Quebec are getting an early head start on the season. Tuesday through Thursday will see the heat peak as daytime high temperatures jump into the lower to middle 30s. Humidex values will be even higher, expected to soar into the mid-40s in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, in and near Ottawa, and across Montreal.
Hot, muggy winds blowing straight from the Gulf of Mexico will add tropical humidity to the mix.Toronto-Pearson could rival its all-time highest June humidex value on record. The current monthly record is 45.6 set on June 30, 2018. The highest humidex forecast this week tops out at 44.

On the air waves its 40 deg C With Humidity in The Niagara escarpment at the moment and expected to go to 42C deg tomorrow.

What is selective and embellishing about the above?

I await...

Amazing....rolleyes

Well, for what it’s worth, some explain this morning that because we in the northeast is still in spring our bodies are not acclimated to the heat as yet, so in effect a WARNING must be issued as a precaution!
