Venue: Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia
Given the batting might of these two teams and the conditions at this venue, we could be in for a high-scoring encounter, something's been very rare in this tournament so far.

I am thinking McCoy will play amd Shep will sit. Hope might play instead of Chase.
England will play both Jacks and Wood
This is a high score pitch if I’m correct
Shepherd needs to play
In reply to googley
If Sheppy plays he must NOT bowl a the death
Pommies win di toss and will bowl
England have won the toss and have opted to field
England chose to field, pity but we’re used to setting the tone. No problem there.
Shep and Chase back in - McCoy and Hope out.
McCoy should have been kept
Hope this works
Looks like there is no Hope.
Disappointing.

8pm: Sounds like Wood has got the nod for England... Toss imminent in Gros Islet. Jos Buttler calls correctly, and England will bowl first very much their preferred mode of operating. Buttler says it "looked a good wicket" when West Indies posted 218 the other night, and references the strong breeze at the ground. This is the same pitch as used for two previous games in St Lucia
West Indies: 1 Brandon King, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Nicholas Pooran (wk), 4 Roston Chase, 5 Rovman Powell (capt), 6 Andre Russell, 7 Sherfane Rutherford, 8 Romario Shepherd, 9 Akeal Hosein, 10 Alzarri Joseph, 11 Gudakesh Motie
England: 1 Phil Salt, 2 Jos Buttler (capt & wk), 3 Jonny Bairstow, 4 Harry Brook, 5 Moeen Ali, 6 Liam Livingstone, 7 Sam Curran, 8 Jofra Archer, 9 Mark Wood, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Reece Topley
7.50pm: The Super Eight got underway earlier today in Antigua, where USA ran South Africa pretty close despite a top-order collapse in their chase of 195. If you're wondering where the co-hosts have sprung from at this tournament, then this handy timeline of USA cricket over the last 20 years is your friend. And if you're looking for a slightly less serious take, myself and Andrew Fidel Fernando had a go at explaining the Super Eight stage to Americans (and anyone else who's interested)
Meanwhile, a news line emerging from the other half of the draw: Australia captain Mitchell Marsh has declared himself fit to bowl, ahead of his side's clash with Bangladesh on Thursday
7.40pm: Sounds like there'll be a good atmosphere at the Daren Sammy tonight, although the coach himself has probably got his head down in game mode right now. "Steadily filling up with a few St George's crosses tied up already," says Matt. "The ticketing site suggests it will be standing room only on the grass banks and in the Johnson Charles stand (which is the main grandstand) but with plenty of empty seats in the premium areas (US135 each). Sammy's parking spot empty when we arrived. It had a black SUV in it with numberplate DS88 two nights ago..."
And on the West Indies team news front, Matt has this: "Romario Shepherd is here after heading home on paternity leave and is warming up as though he's playing." Their XI has gone through a few changes during the tournament, too - though there's no doubt about the spin pairing, as Matt's fine piece on how Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie have dovetailed sets out

Hope you did a puja ...
Something says we are in trouble tonite...
In reply to googley
Both should have played... Hope would have been on the bench for me.
Shepherd has shown no signs in this world cup that he will either get wickets or contain batsmen...
Hope should have also played ...Johnson lack of footwork will not make it if Wood and Archer bowl accurate with pace ...
Bits and pieces players being selected in more hope than expectation...

No critics for Rally around West Indies?
8.22pm: Time for the anthems. God save Dave Rudder...
On the subject of new-ball swing, here's Matt again: "Topley out there very early practising his run-up on the neighbouring strip to the main one. Looks like he's going to bowl from the media centre which should mean the breeze helping his inswinger."
8.15pm: West Indies already have the template for how to win batting first at this ground, having done so two nights ago - fired to the highest total of the tournament so far by Nicholas Pooran's scintillating 98 from 53 (worth reading Matt's piece on that, too). They have won three out of four setting a target, in fact, and came closest to defeat when chasing against Papua New Guinea in their tournament opener. England will be happier knowing what they have to do, however, and will hope that the two quick men, Wood and Archer, alongside Reece Topley's swing and bounce, can make early inroads under the lights
"Good morning/evening!" chirps Odinlass, brightly. "Excited to join the party in St Lucia from Delhi NCR. @Alan, thank you for the humourous piece on the Super Eights. Thanks to Fidel as well. Looking forward to a cracking game. Let's gooooooooo!"
Chandra is getting straight to the point, meanwhile: "One of these two teams will be in the finals."
"Given how West Indies muscled their way in the last match, this is going to be a blockbuster match of some sort," reckons Shiva Bhusal. "Sadly, got stuck at work (little too long) and will miss half of the action, except following the score here." You know we won't let you down, Shiva

8.26pm: West Indies' openers, Johnson Charles and Brandon King, are out in the middle early. And here come England, with the cameras tracking Jofra Archer... but looks like Topley is warming up to bowl the first over
Brandon King and Charles are at the crease.
Brandon King is on strike.

1.4
Mark Wood to Charles, 2 runs, full and angling back sharply onto the boots. Charles tries to get under it and chips it down the ground. No timing on that one but goes between mid-off and mid-on

Topley to Brandon King, SIX, smacked!! Change of bats does the trick for Brandon King. A fuller delivery angling onto the pads, ends up being in the slot and King flicks it over deep mid-wicket. Hit with the breeze and goes deep into the stands for a 101m six!! First six of the game
In reply to Halliwell
Hetty gave him one of his unused bats ...

3.4
Jofra Archer to Brandon King, FOUR, back-to-back boundaries! A shot of a real 'King' here from Brandon! Hard length, quick delivery onto off stump. King stands tall and flat bats it with disdain over the bowler's head, over mid-on and towards the boundary ropes

Review
Review taken for LBW. Was the impact in line with the stumps? Bounce is also a factor

Adil Rashid to Powell, no run, on a length and was the slider. Powell shuffles in for a sweep but is done by some extra bounce. Ball goes over his attempted sweep and hits him on the shoulder

Jofra Archer to Pooran, out Caught by Buttler!! He;s got his man now - Pooran has been caught behind, a thin edge and it's a straightforward catch for Buttler - what a top over from Archer, consistently found his yorkers on a spot outside off - this wasn't a perfect yorker, was just short of a driving length, but Pooran did go for the shot and only managed a thin edge.

Was the wrong 'un and Russell did spot it ewarly, went down onto his knee on the slog-sweep, but he doesn't get it off the middle of the bat, drags it off the inner half, went flat and straight down Salt's throat at deep mid-wicket.

17.1
Mark Wood to Rutherford, SIX, cracking shot, fraction too short from Wood - Rutherford picks the length early, makes most of the pace and then flays the pull over square leg for a maximum, good start to the over
Rutherford is super impressive

Jofra Archer to Rutherford, SIX, short, wide and six, width on offer from Archer - Rutherford stands tall, brings his wrists into play and flaps the cut over backward point, it's the shorter boundary and the ball sails over for a flat six

51 dot balls by West Indies batters today are the most in a 180-plus total at the men's T20 World Cup.
The previous highest was 50 dot balls by West Indies vs India in the 2016 semis, where they made 196/3 in 19.4 overs."
we are 20 runs short... we were 136 for 1 wicket...
10.15pm: That was a curious innings from West Indies. The top four all made between 23 and 38 but no one went on - with Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran both looking particularly laboured. Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford played innings that suggested run-scoring shouldn't have been so difficult, but 180 for the loss of just four wickets (along with Brandon King retiring hurt) feels a tad underpowered. Can England prove that to be the case?
In reply to sgtdjones
1.2
Shepherd to Buttler, FOUR, nicely played, too straight from Shepherd, on the pads and it's easy pickings for Buttler, whipped off the pads, behind square and it races away to the ropes

2.3
Akeal Hosein to Philip Salt, FOUR, oh dear! Tha's so sloppy from Alzarri at mid-off - pushed through quicker and just outside off, Salt was early into closing the face of the bat, the leading edge popped to the left of the bowler who can't get around in time - Joesph was slightly wide at mid-off, but he's late to make a start and can't cut it of
2.4
Akeal Hosein to Philip Salt, no run, that'll go down as a chance, Pooran grabbed at that and couldn't take it on the rebound - was bowled slower and just outside off, Salt was shaping for the pull and was through with the shot early, the ball caught the toe-end and hit Pooran's gloves before lobbing to the left of the batter, he isn't alert enough and can't have a second grab
Hosein to Salt, no run
Dropped? There was a definite noise. Pooran does not hang on. Shortish and spinning away outside off, Salt looks to heave it over the on side. The ball does deflect and it was the toe end, confirms Snicko

Them Indian Comments men corner Lara and asking him “Where did it go wrong?”
11:48pm Clinical performance from England this. They show everybody why they are the defending champions, and that too against a West Indies team that were on a roll with eight successive T20I wins. Despite being under the pump at various points - when King and Charles got off to a flier, and when Powell and Rutherford came in with their cameos and then when the West Indies spinners were in action - England found a way to come back, and nothing highlights it more than their death-overs show. They clawed back after the Powell-Pooran stand and never really looked back.
Despite struggling after the powerplay then, Salt managed to find a way to stick around and not stagnate the scoring. Aptly, it was he with a 30-run over against Shepherd, that dealt the killer blow. With of course, Bairstow for company. There was a reason England wanted him to bat at No. 4 in this competition, and he showed why. Experience galore, despite not really batting the middle order a lot.
Phil Salt, Player of the Match: "Not looking too far ahead. Glad to contribute to the win. It was a little tough in the middle with the spin. But Bairstow spoke to me, and had those words in my mind. Did not take on the spinners, and cashed on at the back end. Lot of different factors that can affect an innings. There was a period where I did not face a lot of balls, but important to stick around and carry on. Jonny was fantastic, took pressure off me by taking calculated risk. Couldn't be happier as a team-mate"
Rovman Powell, West Indies captain: "You have to look at it from batting perspective. We left 15-20 runs. Needed a better display as a bowling group. We are generally good in the last five overs. The execution wasn't good, need to re-evaluate. Hopefully King can pull through for the next two games. Those chances are always difficult. Credit to Salt, he always hurts us. We fell away from our plans to Phil. Need to look back and evaluate. Our destiny is in our own hands, just for us to continue playing some good cricket."
Jos Buttler, England captain: "That was a really good performance. We were practicing well, executed well today. [Chasing 180] We bowled well to restrict a powerful batting line up. We were smart with the bat, the guys were calculative. Bairstow-Salt partnership was very good. Jonny took the game deep and Salty broke it with that one over. That's why we brought Jof [Archer] back there with Pooran and Russell in. We wanted to use him to get a wicket or restrict them and make the back five really difficult. [Rashid] He has been all the time. He is our most important player. Has so much variations and restricts runs. Jonny batted at No. 4 today, class player for a really long time. You keep backing class players. Incredible, mature, senior player's innings."
This turned out to be a game of two “16th over bowlers.”
One was very, very good and the other was horrid.
